Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 235: Dragon ice
Sage’s eyes snapped open, and she let out a sharp gasp as her entire body registered the chill that was consuming her.
And like a tidal wave, all the events leading up to her current predicament suddenly revealed themselves! Her heart began to race with fear and disbelief.
"Cyrus... Cyrus." She burst out crying. Her voice thin and weak. Tears quietly streaming from her eyes.
Where was she?
All she could see were the gloomy clouds that obscured the night sky.
How long has she been lying unconscious in the middle of nowhere?!
Groaning softly in pain, she grasped a handful of snow with her trembling hands and turned to face Snowflake, who was staring at her.
His eyes widened, hinting that he was relieved, but Sage was in complete awe.
"Snow?!" The shock that was washing over her made her voice a little clearer.
Ignoring her, the nine-tailed fox simply put his paw on her forehead, absorbing all the cold she was experiencing at that precise moment.
Sage’s pupils narrowed, shifting into live flames as she gave a hard cough.
The nine-tailed fox sprinted off right away, and flames burst forth all over her body.
She got to her feet and breathed heavily as the fire went out, providing her with the ideal opportunity to observe how frayed her clothing was against her body.
She let out a tired sigh. "Thank you." and turned to look at the nine-tailed fox who was dashing towards her. She instantly took him into her arms and allowed her gaze to wander around her surroundings.
She was surrounded by snow-capped mountains with the freezing wind blowing fiercely against her body. Thankfully, she was in full strength able to protect herself from the cold.
Where was she, exactly? And.... Snowflake?
He continued to stare at her as she looked down at him.
"That shriek. It sounded like a Statkus mage."
An unrecognizable statkus mage.
For once she was actually highly relieved that she was not in a place like the land of the sea of blood. She was going through a lot.
Everyone was impacted by that intense shriek! Mages and dragons alike! But unlike the shriek, the lightning came from a different source.
Sage’s lips pulled up stiffly. "Do you know a way out of here?"
The nine-tailed fox did not cry out or show any kind of reaction.
"I guess not."
Sage sighed, feeling ridiculous speaking to the guardian beast. "That lightning brought us here. It saved us."
Looking ahead, she noticed that the clouds were gathering and becoming darker towards the east, causing her lips to quiver. Strangely enough, that caught her attention.
But was there really a place like this in Leimpia, with so many snow-capped mountains?
A sharp flash of lightning within those clouds suddenly caught Sage’s attention pausing her thoughts. "We must head back to the others."
She preferred not to draw hasty judgements!
She gave the nine-tailed fox a close look. He was fast asleep. Her face dropped.
She was trapped in the middle of nowhere with a sleeping guardian beast!!
Unsure of what to do, she turned and started down the mountain in the hopes of coming across a cave that could provide refuge.
A few hours went by. Until fatigue became an understatement, she found herself lost in a forest, wandering like a lost soul.
Even with the nine-tailed fox dozing in her arms and her legs buried in the thick snow, she kept moving.
Following a straight path out of the forest, she eventually emerged to the surprise of a large field adorned with thousands of enormous dragon ice statues.
"What is...?" Her mouth dropped open.
Approaching a statue slowly, she gazed at it, utterly mesmerized. The ice. It was ice blue in color, gleaming like fire.
The nine-tailed fox opened his eyes and stared at the statue with a totally casual look.
"Do you happen to know where these dragon statues are from?" Gaping at the other statues that spanned the field, Sage asked.
As she was about to step forward to cross the field, the nine-tailed fox squirmed out of her arms and leaped to the ground.
"Oh?" She looked at him with wide eyes.
Snowflake was staring at the dragon statue, growling softly at it.
"Is there something wrong?" She took him back into her arms and gently stroked him to help him relax. But all he did was start growling loudly, pointing out the statue to her.
Along with all the other statues, it was glowing even more intensely than before.
Almost reluctantly, she reached out to touch the statue, breathed in, and placed her hand on it.
"FOR ANTICA!!." Suddenly, what sounded like a distant thunderclap erupted in the recesses of her mind.
"FOR ANTICA" Numerous voices burst forth, with enough volume to rock Antica as a whole.
Sage lurched away from the statue with a panicked scream. Her ears were ringing terribly, and blood was slowly seeping out.
"These are the dragons!" It was beyond her imagination! She did not want to believe it! "These are the ice dragons!"
"And this was a battlefield." Suddenly, from behind, came a cold voice.
Sage turned to face the man, her eyes widening at his sight.
His dark silver eyes shimmering with pride, his long white gray hair swaying in the wind. His stunning features fully revealed his identity.
No.
It was the gleaming sword he held.
"Are you the one who saved me?" She asked with a perfectly gentle countenance.
The ice god gave a smile. "Yes,"
"So you could kill me?" Sage asked again.
Astonished, the ice god laughed. "They are all still alive, you know. They are just imprisoned within their own minds, an endless dark place."
Startled by that realization, Sage turned to face the statue behind her. "Those voices... are memories."
"The past is coming back to haunt us. Ice and fire do not mix well. Ice melts or fire extinguishes." Gazing at the guardian beast she held, the ice god spoke.
Sage caught on to this. Given the presence of the guardian beast, the ice god refrained from killing her.
Snowflake... Her eyes slid to him. He was giving the ice god a deadly glare.
"I am positive the guardian beast is not yours. How come he is here with you?" The ice god questioned with his thin lips pressed together.
Sage beamed at him. "I should ask you that."
Though she was incredibly appreciative, she was unsure of how Snowflake came to be with her.
The ice god inhaled deeply as his sword vanished into thin air, leaving only a pale white glow in its wake. "Guardian beasts possess incredible wisdom. For starters, this adorable-looking nine-tailed fox is among the deadliest creatures that serve as protectors." Then he gave a spooky smile. "I assume you know that already."
"You ice gods have not killed Cyrus because of the guardian beasts. Rather, you cowards are quenching your destructive thirst by striking deals with the Statkus mages." Sage said, looking utterly repulsed.
The ice god gave a mocking smile. "My dear fire mage, it appears that you know very little. You do not believe you have the same level of power as Ioas, do you?"
Sage scowled. "The Statkus mages were created by you, the ice gods."
"It was a group endeavor. Mages who used forbidden magic to gain entry to the celestial realm were cursed. Greedy things. As it happens, they are effective weapons."
Sage took a deep breath. "Where exactly am I?"
"Videnia. Where else?" The ice god answered, growing more pleased at her frown.
"What?" Sage did not understand. Videnia? It wasn’t...
"Dear Fire Mage, Videnia is more than just a place. I know you were here, but you were just at the door."
Sage was bewildered. However, she felt her soul briefly leave her body when the ice god suddenly materialized very close to her, grabbing her arm.
They vanished, emerging in front of a massive mansion beneath those dark clouds that were gathering and threatening to burst with lightning.
Snowflake snarled with intense animosity.
The ice god scowled deeply and instantly released Sage’s arm.
Sage, meanwhile, was taken aback when she realized how familiar the mansion was!
It was the same mansion where the statue of Aurora resided!
"Why am I here?" Sage questioned the ice god in a harsh tone.
"You have been unconscious for the past three days, dear fire mage. Cyrus’s birthday is 48 hours from now."
Sage gave him a look, her furious anger visible in the wild flare of her eyes. "Why am I here?"
The ice god fixed his gaze on her, a grave expression on his face. "Your fire core, Sage Dragos. Your life force."
