Chapter 209: Memories of friendship 4

River’s eyes widened in surprise.

Was that Cyrus? What was going on with him? Why did he appear strange and terrifying?

His mind kept asking questions, but he couldn’t take his gaze away from Cyrus, who still had a wicked grin on his face, his demon eyes narrowed menacingly, and the black mist around him oozed endlessly.

"Poisoned?!" He exclaimed in confusion and attempted to run towards Cyrus, but Ashton caught him by the cloak and stopped him.

"Did you not hear me?" Ashton asked lazily as River looked at him with wide eyes.

"What is going on with him?" He inquired, his voice low and stunned.

"The ice dragon has three souls." Ashton revealed nonchalantly, let go of his cloak, and walked over to Cyrus, patting his head.

"However, they didn’t poison you, did they? Get out of here before you scare them." Cyrus tilted his head to the side and turned away to face Esteban, who was still in his dragon form, as Ashton whispered.

The dragon breathed raging fire directly at Cyrus and Ashton without hesitation, but the mist around Cyrus formed a shield, preventing the fire from reaching them.

Ashton clenched his teeth and returned the twins’ stare. River was stunned, and Ophelia was enraged.

Someone in the castle poisoned Cyrus, but Ashton didn’t expect his demonic state to take over instead of his dark state. It was terrible because he knew Cyrus would be in this state for a long time.

In his demonic state, Cyrus made it a point to kill everyone around him, and now that he was being attacked by Esteban, there was a good chance he’d hurt River and Ophelia.

Meanwhile, River blinked and let out a deep sigh as the scene reflected in his hazel gray eyes like a mirror. What Ashton had told him was completely absurd.

How was it possible for one person to have three souls? But Cyrus was a completely different person now.

Esteban seized his fire, lifted his powerful wings and flew around them carrying River and Ophelia from the ground and flew into the sky, but before he could completely disappear into the clouds, he felt something wrap his tail and it was a strong grip.

Suddenly, he was yanked backwards, only to realize that the ice dragon’s mist had transformed into some kind of rope that had wrapped around his tail and was as strong as it could pull him, an enormous dragon.

The pull became stronger, and Esteban crashed to the ground, roaring loudly, signaling the small army to begin attacking the Antican dragons who were present. A fight ensued, and the dark mist rope vanished from Esteban’s tail.

River and Ophelia were freed from his grasp, moved away from him, and looked at Cyrus in complete shock.

"Is he going to kill us?" Ophelia whispered to River, attempting to quiet her rapid breathing.

"I don’t know." River returned the whisper, and Ophelia narrowed her eyes at Cyrus.

"He has been good to us but I still doubt him now seeing how scary he looks now. His strength and abilities are also mysterious." Ophelia muttered.

"He possesses three souls." River revealed to his sister in a fading whisper.

"Intriguing." She laughed and turned away from Esteban, who was still in his dragon form and lying on the ground, exhausted. "Now I’m going to get rid of this jerk who’s making Papa hate me." She gave a snarl.

River ignored her despite the fact that he knew she would get in a lot of trouble if she killed her uncle. He knew that once she said she would do something, she would never stop until she did it, and she would never hesitate to kill because she had already been ordered to do so countless times by their one and only father, the king of Fireria.

River cast a glance at Ophelia, who was now smiling at Esteban, before returning his gaze to Cyrus, who was staring at him with a flat yet mindless gaze. The mist around him was thickening, and River was certain he saw madness in those demon eyes.

Was he not a dragon? Having three souls made no sense to him.

River wished he could know what was going through Cyrus’ mind, but a part of him didn’t because this Cyrus wasn’t the Cyrus he left behind at the frozen lake. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Those eyes shifted to blue slits, but Cyrus quickly closed them, causing River to gasp and stare at him with full curiosity.

They were in the midst of a small battle, hearing the clanging sharp sounds of weapons colliding, grunts and wails, loud roars of those who had transformed into dragons and battled, and the stench of blood filled the air.

River stood there watching Cyrus as the increased dark mist engulfed him until he couldn’t see him anymore.

River’s eyes widened with fear.

"Cyrus!"

He then ran faster than the wind, disappearing into the mist, but not before Ashton called out to him.

"Do not go in there!"

River let out a gasp and opened his eyes to find himself in complete darkness, but the darkness had walls, which were the dark mist that swirled and moved as if it had its own mind. It was strangely quiet, with no sign of Cyrus.

"Cyrus!" he called out.

"What brings you here? Do you want to die?" In the mist, Cyrus’ small voice echoed coldly.

"What’s the matter with you? Where did this mist come from?" River asked, looking around the darkness, and began scanning the area where Cyrus’ voice could be heard.

"There is nothing wrong with me, and the mist is a part of me."

"Part of you?" River asked, scoffing in disbelief. "You are not serious."

"You know absolutely nothing about me."

"Okay, I don’t, but I know this isn’t you. Something is wrong with you. Perhaps you were possessed rather than poisoned." River expressed hope that he could help Cyrus in some way.

The laughter of Cyrus echoed in the darkness. "You are so ridiculous." He hissed.

"Cyrus!" River snapped as he didn’t like the tone he was using to speak to him.

"Are you still interested in being my friend?" Cyrus laughed and suddenly appeared in front of River, who gasped and came to a halt.

One of his eyes was blue slit and the other was black demon eyes. He had a wicked grin on his small red lips and wide eyes.

"Are you?" Cyrus inquired eagerly, grabbing River by the shoulders and sending chills down his spine.
