Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 143: Difference
The next day was completely depressing for the vast majority of those in the castle. The weather was colder than usual, revealing that Cyrus was still in his dark state, and snow fell from the sky nonstop.
Harsh snow storms were reported in some vulnerable areas of the kingdoms, which was very upsetting.
Ashton sat on the top stairwell, listening to the complaints of two women who had come to report their problems.
They were both from a middle class family and appeared to be about to rip each other’s hair out.
"I am a trader of fresh fruits from the Weavil empire with a large building where I store my fruits in bulk, but I recently discovered that my dear neighbor has been stealing from me!" The blonde woman explained and screamed at the end.
"You dare to call me a thief?!?" The woman with dark hair screamed hysterically.
Ashton massaged his brow, uninterested in their fight and complaints, but he couldn’t help but wonder how the humans grew fresh fruits in the eternal winter. It was quite impressive, but Ashton didn’t want to pay attention to the humans because he had always taught himself that they were fragile creatures.
As the women argued, Ashton let out a deep sigh, and as he grew tired, he stood up and walked past them, out of the throne room, where he met Mirabella and Isabella who were about to enter.
"You look tired," Mirabella said, smiling.
"I am not tired; I am enraged, and I’d like you to do the honors by solving those peasants’ issues." Ashton walked away from them, his voice frustrated.
"Is he affected by the war?" Isabella inquired of Mirabella.
Mirabella remembered Stefan being stabbed by a statkus mage and Cyrus being stuck in his dark state after forcing Sage to stab him. She found Cyrus’ action strange, and because Ashton was bothered by it, she knew Cyrus’ action had had a dangerous effect.
"Probably," Mirabella sighed as she entered the throne room.
When Ashton arrived at Stefan’s room door, Sage was standing there with her hand on the door handle, ready to open it. She came to a halt as soon as she saw Ashton, who focused his gaze on her, looking for any sign of injury.
"Are you okay?" He inquired solemnly.
"No." Sage acknowledged with a faint smile. "Please explain what is going on." She added and released the handle before approaching him.
Ashton laughed. "Come for a walk with me." He said this, and she nodded.
They exited the castle and began walking away from it, towards the stable. Sage’s gaze was drawn to the ice-covered trees that they were walking past.
She was glad she was wearing a coat because the snow was not going away anytime soon, and it was bitterly cold that day.
"Cyrus was born with two souls, one normal and one dark. He was born with a frozen heart, but you melted it in his normal state, but in his dark state, his heart is frozen with eternal frost, making it impossible to melt. The difference is that Cyrus’ normal state has both positive and negative emotions, whereas his normal state only acts on negative emotions and sometimes none at all, and that state is linked to his guardians, particularly the nine-tailed fox, who is a demon in disguise." Ashton explained and finished with a deep chuckle.
Sage fiddled with her fingers as she nodded slowly. "I understand all of this, but how is Snowflake a demon in disguise?" She had to ask because she thought the nine-tailed fox was cute and very possessive of Cyrus, despite the fact that she knew the nine-tailed fox despised her.
"I’d rather not tell you about it." With a chuckle, Ashton responded.
Sage gave a thoughtful nod. "You are not saying anything to me." She muttered and came to a halt.
"I guess you should know, he did make you stab him after all," Ashton sighed, furious at Cyrus’ actions.
He also came to a halt and turned to face Sage, who was clearly interested in what was going on.
"Cyrus’ dark state had been attempting to take over in recent days, and unfortunately, his dark state took over his mind, leading him to plan how to destroy his normal state from existence. Because his normal state was still in motion, he decided to use you, the love of his life, to complete the task of killing his normal state while allowing his dark state to exist in perpetuity." Ashton spoke quickly, but Sage heard everything clearly.
"W..what?" She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
She looked down at her trembling hands, and Ashton, who was watching her, felt sorry for her.
He could tell Draco had gone too far this time.
Sage couldn’t believe she had killed Cyrus in his normal state. She had murdered him.
She closed her eyes and clenched her fists, attempting not to cry.
She had spent the night without him next to her, she had awoken without him, she felt empty. She wanted to meet her brother with the intention of having a conversation with him, but she had not expected to hear any of these things from Ashton.
Her fists trembled as she inhaled deeply.
"I... I am afraid of hurting you."
"I have faith in you."
"Do not allow me to hurt you,"
Sage was about to scream. Her entire world felt colder than it did at that moment, and she gradually felt her world crumble into nothing; not even darkness could be seen in her crumbled world.
"You will be fine, Cyrus always brags about how strong you are," Ashton said calmly as she felt his land on her shoulder.
She opened her eyes and looked at the demon who was attempting to soothe her.
He laughed. "You are strong,"
"I hope so." Sage said faintly before feeling a sharp piercing pain in her palm and screamed in agony. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Ashton’s eyes widened as he watched Sage open her trembling palm to reveal a fresh scar and a white glow, and he knew who was causing the pain.
Sage screamed in agony as she clutched her wrist.
"CYRUS!" Ashton yelled angrily.
Cyrus appeared out of nowhere behind Sage, wrapped his arm around her waist, and pulled her back to press against his body.
His eyes were completely black, like those of a demon. "Do not tell me that, I have been watching you two." He hissed deeply.
Ashton’s eyes morphed into demon eyes, and he growled, revealing his fangs. "There is no reason to be jealous. Who knew you had it in you?" He walked away, smirking.
