Married To The Dragon Prince Against My Will-Chapter 234: THE SHOCKING REVELATION
"Mother... you..."
Adam’s words never finished before the sound of skin meeting skin cracked through the cold chamber.
His head snapped to the side as pain exploded across his face.
Sephora stood before him, chest rising, eyes blazing with a fury that he was sure she had never shown.
"How can you be so useless!" she screamed. "I placed everything I had on you. Every single thing! I thought you would be the son strong enough to drag me out of this filth. I trusted you with my life, my sins, my future."
"Mother!" Adam staggered forward, disbelief trembling in his voice.
"Enough!" she yelled as Lightning flared from her palm and the strike hit him square in the chest.
Adam was thrown back violently, his body slamming into the floor. A strangled gasp tore from his throat as his lungs refused to draw air.
His hands clutched at his chest, fingers shaking as pain burrowed deep into his bones.
For the first time in his existence, a horrifying thought crossed his mind.
How had his younger brother endured this? How had he survived her rage and lived?
"Mo... mother..." Adam rasped, barely conscious.
She stepped closer, her shadow swallowing him whole.
"The position you failed to protect still belongs to your son," Adam hissed out in pain.
"Why are you making things difficult for me? Why did you ever make me believe you could become king?" She yelled out of anger.
She let out a very bitter laugh, as the sound echoed off the chamber walls.
"You are stupid," she continued. "Your little brother is far more sensible than you. Even your sister surpasses you." Adam’s fingers dug into the floor this moment.
"Aurelia should have been born a man," Sephora spat. "You are the most useless son I have ever created." Something inside Adam snapped.
"I am just one of your children," he shouted hoarsely. "Only one of them. The Crown Prince is your first child. Why are you furious that the rightful heir is taking his place?"
Her eyes burned brighter from how stupid he sounded to her.
"Because you are not their brother." The words struck harder than the lightning and he needed to be silent for some seconds.
"You are different," she continued coldly. "Do you know what I sacrificed to make you one of them? I killed him so you could be Crown Prince. I cursed Ashen’s name and fed the world lies so you would shine. I murdered the real queen so I could stay on the throne forever."
Adam stopped breathing as the room spun.
"I killed everything," Sephora finished calmly. "For you."
Adam remained frozen, unable to move, unable to blink. The woman he had called mother his entire life stood before him like a stranger wearing her face.
"What... do you mean?" he whispered. "If the Crown Prince is not my brother... then what about Ashen?" Her smile widened.
"Do you want to know why I made the world believe Ashen was cursed?" she asked. "Because once Alexis died, Ashen became the true heir and not you."
"Mother!" Adam shouted, staggering to his feet. "Make me understand this. If the first son is not my brother, what about the last? Why is he still legitimate..." She laughed loudly, cruelly.
"You still do not see it." She inhaled deeply, savoring the moment.
"Alexis and Ashen are brothers. Aurelia is their half sister. And you..." she paused, eyes narrowing, "you belong to neither." Adam’s knees buckled.
"Just say it," he begged. "Are you telling me the king is not my father?"
For the first time, Sephora hesitated before she nodded.
The world shattered at once in front of the proud son.
"What happened?" Adam whispered. "Did you betray the king? Was I born of adultery?" Her lips curved slowly.
"Well... that would have been better, then I wouldn’t have to do so much."
"Then tell me! Stop putting me in the dark!" he yelled out.
"I was never the first High Queen," she said. "I killed her." Adam’s breath left him in a broken gasp.
"How... then how did she give birth to Ashen?"
"She was my twin," Sephora replied softly. "My identical twin." Adam’s legs gave way entirely, no matter how hard he tried to regain himself his mother just kept hitting him with the hard truth that made his knees weak.
"The real queen gave birth to Alexis first," Sephora continued. "It was discovered he had a short lifespan. At the same time, she herself grew weak. But she never let the king see it. To him, she was perfect and also the Celestial Diamond."
"Celestial?" Adam whispered.
She nodded. "We are from the Celestial Realm. That is why lightning answers my call." Just then her voice turned bitter.
"We switched places for years without the king’s knowledge while I ruled beside the king while she hid to recover. But time betrayed her and the man I was meant to marry abandoned me for another woman."
Rage darkened her face as she said this. "When my sister returned, I discovered I was carrying you. I tried to explain to him, but he accused me of betrayal and cast me aside."
Her laugh trembled with venom.
"She begged me for forgiveness, and also at the same time hoping she would get her husband back and leave me just like that. So I never gave it. During our arguments, I pushed her. She felt weak and broken." She paused for a while before she proceeded.
"I wanted to help her but the thought of not having my man in my life anymore made me angry so I locked her in the dungeon and took her crown."
Adam stared at her, trembling.
"I made the king believe I carried his child," she continued. "He showered me with gifts, though suspicion never left his eyes. After you were born, I demanded you be crowned from birth." Her voice sharpened.
"I tried to kill Alexis, but he outsmarted me and faked his death."
She paced slowly at this moment.
"I knew one child was not enough, especially since you are not of his blood so I seduced the king, drank him into submission until he finally gave in." Adam flinched, who knows? His mother also had this in her.
"Then Aurelia was born," Sephora said. "I thought I had secured everything." Her eyes darkened again.
"But then I became aware that I was still alive." Adam’s heart pounded.
"She had reached out to the king when I locked her up, after all she was his wife." Sephora clenched her fists.
"She became pregnant again behind my back and was aware that if she delivered that child, I would lose everything. So I worked with the High Priest. We filled the palace with false omens. Turned the heavens against her." Her smile returned.
"When Ashen was born, the dragons also fled at that moment. The king believed the signs... I also did everything in me to make the king live. I was the real queen... he believed this but still never let Ashen be killed, out of rage that night I killed her and decided to take Ashen as my child." She exhaled slowly.
"And I lived happily ever after."
Adam could not speak, realization finally dawned on him why his mother had never for one moment shown care to Ashen, so he was never her son in the first place.
But what they both didn’t know was that all the while during her confession both Alexis and the king were outside the door.
