Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 379: Scared Out of Her Mind
Chapter 379: Scared Out of Her Mind
The guests in the audience exchanged confused looks. What was Mr. Reid doing?
The bride was already standing next to him, yet he hadn’t spared Angelica a single glance. Anyone else would probably be crying by now.
Joe’s face darkened. Grandpa Reid also sensed something was wrong and warned, "Logan, this is your engagement party. Whatever the issue is, deal with it after the ceremony."
Angelica’s eyes brimmed with tears. "Logan, what’s wrong with you...?"
"Nothing." Logan finally moved. His voice was calm. "There’s just one thing I’m curious about. I want to ask you again."
Angelica felt a sinking dread. "Can’t it wait, Logan? All the guests are watching..."
"Angelica," Logan interrupted coolly, "are you sure Selina said in her will that she wanted me to marry you?"
The room fell silent. Why was Logan asking that? Wasn’t it obvious? The will had already been made public—how could it be fake?
Angelica’s throat tightened, but she managed a smile. "Of course, Logan. Didn’t you read Selina’s will yourself?"
Logan nodded slightly. "But someone told me she didn’t write it."
Angelica bit her lip, tears falling. "Logan, the will was found among Selina’s personal belongings. If she didn’t write it, then who did? Who’s been feeding you these lies?"
Joe’s face clouded. "Angelica is your fiancée! You’d believe a stranger over her? Who told you this nonsense?"
Everyone went quiet, not daring to speak. Luke clenched his fists. He knew it was his cue.
"What’s the Morris Chairman trying to do? Dig around to find out who said it so he can threaten them?"
Luke’s tone was light and mocking. "Besides, I heard the same thing—that Angelica forged the will. My brother just wanted to be sure before wrongly accusing someone. What are you getting so worked up for, Chairman?"
Joe’s face flushed crimson. "Utter nonsense! Old Mr. Reid, our Morris Family has shown nothing but sincerity, and this is how your Reid Family responds?"
Grandpa Reid, worried Joe might storm out, scowled. "Who’s been spreading rumors behind our backs? Who dared deceive you two boys! Selina is dead—Angelica is the one suffering most from her loss, and now someone dares accuse her of faking the will?!"
"Logan. Luke. You must say who it was—right now!"
Luke hesitated. "Are you sure you want to know? I’d hate to scare you all..."
He played his part with theatric flair. "Especially Chairman Morris and Angelica—what if you die of shock right here? Then I’ll be blamed. Eh, forget it. Better not say anything."
"Luke!" Joe shouted, veins bulging. "Let’s see who could possibly scare me!"
Angelica also wiped her tears and spoke softly, "Logan, I love you so much, yet you choose to believe a stranger..." freēnovelkiss.com
"I have a clear conscience. No matter who comes forward, I’m not afraid. She should be the one afraid, not me."
She spoke with such conviction that anyone unaware of the truth might have believed her. Even Luke had to admit—it sounded pretty convincing.
"Well then," Luke said, "let’s bring her out."
Logan nodded calmly. "Angelica, I hope you’re as confident as you say."
Angelica lifted her chin proudly. "I was surprised by the will myself, but unless Selina herself returns, no one can prove it’s fake! I’d love to see who dares say otherwise—"
"Well, how convenient." A female voice cut her off. "I’m the one saying it’s fake."
Wait a second—that voice. That voice was...
The moment everyone realized who the voice belonged to, they all froze.
Angelica stiffened completely. Her gentle smile cracked, twisting into a look of sheer horror.
Selina... That voice—it was Selina’s!
How could it be Selina?! Selina was supposed to be dead! Was this a person... or a ghost?
Right—today was the seventh day after Selina’s death. Could she have come back? No, no, no!
Angelica’s panic drowned out her reason. She staggered back two steps, her heel catching on her wedding dress. With a loud thud, she dropped onto the ground. "Ah!!"
Joe gasped sharply too. Though his reaction wasn’t as dramatic, his face had gone rigid.
Luke chimed in dryly, "Told you—bringing her out would scare Angelica to death. Look, Selina just said one sentence and she’s already on the floor."
"But now I’m curious—Miss Angelica, what are you so scared of?"
Luke feigned confusion. "Did you... think Selina was a ghost?"
Selina curled her lips into a smirk. "Surely Angelica isn’t so dumb she can’t tell the difference between a person and a ghost. Maybe she’s just so shocked to see me alive, she lost it for a second."
Everyone’s eyes darted discreetly toward Selina—she had a shadow. She was real.
What was going on? How was someone supposedly dead... alive? And judging by Angelica’s terrified reaction...
Luke clicked his tongue. "Angelica, wasn’t Selina your ’beloved little sister’? Shouldn’t you be thrilled she’s alive? Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost—or like someone with a guilty conscience?"
"Ohhh—could it be Selina’s death actually had something to do with you? And you thought you’d gotten rid of her for good... but look who’s back—"
"No! Of course not!"
Angelica trembled all over. Damn it! Selina wasn’t dead after all! Her whole plan was crumbling because Selina survived!
Still, she didn’t panic. There was still time. Selina might have escaped this time, but could she escape the next?
Angelica quickly composed herself and changed her tone, tears welling in her eyes. "I was just... too overwhelmed..."
Then she broke into sobs. "Selina, you’re alive—that’s wonderful! I’m so relieved to see you safe. But we all thought you were dead. Where have you been all these days?"
Selina raised an eyebrow. "Angelica, are you saying you were worried about me?"
She looked Angelica up and down. "Worried enough to get engaged to my husband on the seventh day after my supposed death?"
Luke snorted. "Right? No normal person would do that—yet someone here showed up at the door waving a fake will like it was a golden ticket."
"I..." Angelica’s eyes flickered, and she deflected. "If you were alive, why didn’t you come out sooner? Why wait until my engagement party to confront me? Are you just trying to embarrass me?"
Everyone paused—she had a point. Selina wasn’t dead, but then why wait until now to show up, especially in such a dramatic way?
Joe, unable to watch any longer, spoke up. "That’s enough, Selina. You and Logan already played Angelica like a fool. I haven’t even held you accountable yet—what right do you have to interrogate her?"
