Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 374: News of the Death
Chapter 374: News of the Death
Logan’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as he let out a meaningful smile. "Mrs. Reid, the way you’re acting, you’d think I did something truly excessive."
Selina stared at him, stunned. He doesn’t think it was excessive?!
She was practically dead from exhaustion, and this man—how was he so energetic at the crack of dawn? He even had the nerve to sit there reading a newspaper?
Logan caught the look in her eyes and raised an eyebrow. "Aren’t you curious what’s in the paper, Mrs. Reid?"
Now that he mentioned it, Selina was a little curious. "What’s it say?"
"See for yourself."
Logan stuffed the paper into her arms. She glanced at it casually—then froze completely.
"Wife of Reid Group CEO Presumed Dead in Boating Accident—Leaves Behind Will"
Selina: "...?"
Who died in a boating accident? Who left behind a will?
Logan said with amusement, "Right now, your Twitter is flooded with memorial posts and farewell messages from netizens."
Selina didn’t fully get it, but she was definitely shocked.
Half a minute later, it clicked. "Angelica’s getting clever. If she tried to take everything outright, people would criticize her. But if I supposedly left a will giving her everything, who could say she’s in the wrong?"
Logan’s eyes lowered slightly. "What does Mrs. Reid plan to do?"
Selina smiled. "I’m still alive—how could a will possibly be valid? Looks like I’ll have to trouble Mr. Reid to join me in a little performance."
Just as she finished speaking, there was a knock on the door. "Selina, you awake?" It was Ethan.
Selina’s previously confident, composed look vanished in an instant. She dove under the covers and whispered sharply, "Tell him I’m still asleep!"
She was in no state to be seen right now... not with all that.
Logan smirked faintly, calmly pulling the blanket up to cover the bruises on her body before opening the door. "Something you need?"
Ethan looked surprised. "Why are you answering? I’m looking for your wife."
Logan replied smoothly, "She was exhausted last night. Still sleeping."
Ethan froze mid-sentence.
How does Logan say stuff like that with a straight face?! And he dares claim he’s not a beast?
Still, Ethan understood the urgency. "Right. So, rumors started last night... saying Selina went on a yacht trip."
He paused. "And was caught in a boating accident. Left a will."
Logan nodded. "And?"
"And..." Ethan sneered, "Two people from the Reid Family showed up this morning ’to visit’—pretending to be concerned, but really just hoping she’s dead. I came to ask her how she wants to handle it."
Logan crushed a dried flower petal between his fingers, his tone casual. "Tell them to get lost."
"Oh, and act pissed while you do it."
Ethan thought for a second, then nodded in understanding.
Five minutes later, Ethan walked to the hospital entrance and spotted the two Reid Family members, both looking shifty.
He snapped without hesitation, "Logan says get lost!"
The visitors were Logan’s second and third uncles—Daniel’s brothers. They weren’t angry at the outburst; instead, they exchanged a quick glance and continued probing. "We just wanted to check on our niece-in-law. Everyone’s saying she died, but we don’t believe rumors..."
"I said get lost! Don’t understand English? You want me to call security?!"
Ethan shouted, slamming a cup to the ground for good measure. Second Master Reid flinched and muttered while backing away, "If she’s dead, she’s dead, no need to lose your temper..."
Ethan exhaled in relief. That should convince the Reid Family she’s really gone.
But now... what would Logan and Selina do next?
...
Exactly.
Second Master Reid brought the news back to the Reid Family. Grandpa Reid sighed. "Selina’s death is ultimately a good thing, but I’m afraid Logan will hold it against me..."
"Dad, Logan’s a man. Wives die—it’s not the end of the world. Just marry him off again. Give it a few months and he won’t even remember Selina."
Grandpa Reid frowned. "It’s not that simple. And who could Logan even marry..."
"Grandpa Reid."
Angelica stood up, tears in her eyes. "I’m willing to marry Logan. I know he must be devastated right now. What happened to Selina... in a way, it all started because of me. I made him lose his wife—so I’ll give myself to him as compensation. I just hope you’ll support me."
Letting Angelica marry Logan was the best possible outcome—Grandpa Reid wouldn’t oppose it. But...
"But Logan may not be willing to marry you. Besides, the shipwreck is fake. Logan knows how Selina died. How could he...how could he..."
Angelica lowered her head, looking soft and pitiful. "But what if we have Selina’s will, Grandpa Reid? I found it."
"You know how much Logan loved her. He’d never go against her final wishes. If Selina said in her will that she forgave me, and hoped Logan would marry me... don’t you think he’d go along with it?"
"Everything I’m doing is for the good of the Reid Family. After all, I’m the Morris Family heiress. Logan and I are well-matched. If I marry him, no one would dare criticize the Reid Family. But if Logan keeps mourning that dead Selina girl, then that’s when people will start laughing at us."
Those words struck a chord with Grandpa Reid.
She was right. Selina’s dead, so what? But if Logan threw the entire Reid Family into chaos for her, they’d be the laughingstock of the city.
And now that Angelica had "found" Selina’s will, all the problems would disappear.
"Angelica, even after Logan broke your wrist, you’re still thinking of him... I honestly don’t know how to thank you."
"It’s okay, Grandpa Reid," Angelica said gently. "Everything I’ve done—I did it willingly."
After convincing Grandpa Reid, Angelica still wasn’t fully at ease. She planned to wait a few more days, just in case.
Selina was smart—what if she was still clinging to life?
...
Ever since Selina’s alleged death, Logan had turned down every invitation. He had arranged an extended leave for her at City A University. On the surface, everything looked normal—too normal.
He spent less and less time at the office, and more and more at the villa. Selina hadn’t shown up in public even once.
When Logan noticed someone secretly watching Sapphire Valley Villa, he nodded. "Mrs. Reid really is clever—she predicted this."
Selina lay on the bed. "Angelica will definitely find some way to confirm whether I’m really dead or not. Mr. Reid, it’s your time to shine."
Logan’s lips curled slightly. "I won’t let you down."
Sure enough, two days later, Logan got a call from Angelica.
She sobbed over the phone, her voice full of sorrow. "Logan, I found Selina’s will. Can you come take a look? I didn’t even know she felt that way deep down..."
Logan’s gaze dropped, eyes icy cold. "Is that so."
