Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife-Chapter 1525: Changed Of Impressions
Chapter 1525: Changed Of Impressions
Father Wei had to admit that, although he no longer looked at the Chen family with the same disdain and disgust as before, he still couldn’t change his prejudice against them due to what Chen Bo had done and their backgrounds as villagers.
He often got into arguments with his eldest grandson over this matter, but he never took his grandson’s words to heart. To him, Chen Jianmin was just a child. No matter how much his grandson praised him, in Father Wei’s eyes, Chen Jianmin was still just a boy who knew nothing but playing.
Only now did he realize that his grandson hadn’t been exaggerating at all. Neither Chen Jianmin nor Dong Li was an average child.
If the two of them had been born into a wealthy and powerful family and joined the military, they might have become generals at a young age.
The moment he reached this conclusion, Father Wei finally woke up from his stubborn denial of reality. He was no longer the high and powerful mayor in the capital. Now, he was just an old man who had fled his home in fear of punishment.
Due to this realization and embarrassment, he locked himself in his room for several days and fell ill.
One week later, when his condition was not improving, Chen Jianmin invited Doctor Xie to check on Father Wei due to Chen Mingze’s request.
Inside the bedroom, the Wei family and Chen Gang’s family gathered near the kang bed where Father Wei lay with a pale face.
Doctor Xie was checking his pulse with a frown. After a long while, he checked again using Song Yan’s stethoscope.
Five minutes later, he took out a sphygmomanometer and checked Father Wei’s blood pressure. This equipment was rare and had been given by a doctor whom Song Yan invited from abroad. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
During his studies abroad, Doctor Xie learned how to use this equipment and was already familiar with it. It’s just that the equipment was expensive, and not every doctor could afford to own one.
Most of the equipment used by doctors belonged to the hospital and couldn’t be taken away. Therefore, when Song Yan received this gift, he gave it to his teacher, along with other new medical tools he had bought. This way, his teacher could make more accurate examinations.
When the Chen family members saw the equipment, they looked at it with curiosity. This was the first time they had seen such a thing, and they found it novel.
After Doctor Xie finished the examination, he said, "He has high blood pressure and a stomach problem."
"Doctor, is my father’s condition serious?" Wei Zhiying asked.
Doctor Xie wrote the prescription and said, "He’s fine. Just make sure he eats light food and avoids overthinking."
"Take this prescription for a week, three times a day after meals. Boil the medicine with three bowls of water over medium heat until it reduces to one bowl of decoction," he added as he handed the prescription to her.
Wei Zhiying took the prescription and said, "Thank you, Doctor."
Doctor Xie packed up his tools and added, "After a week, come to my house for a follow-up check-up."
Mother Wei nodded and asked, "Doctor, how much is the consultation fee?"
"It’s three yuan. If you want to buy the medicinal herbs, you can find my granddaughter at my house. Otherwise, you can get them at the county town," Doctor Xie replied.
Since the medicine was available in the village, Mother Wei decided it was better to buy it from Doctor Xie and said, "Doctor, we will buy the medicine from you. How much does it cost?"
"I don’t know. The one selling the medicine is my granddaughter," Doctor Xie replied casually.
Hearing this, Mother Wei could only pay him the consultation fee and follow him back to his house. Since Father Wei was fine, the Chen family took their leave.
While they returned to their house and continued their work, Chen Jianmin followed Doctor Xie, carrying his medical bag and medicine box.
With someone willing to carry his things, Doctor Xie didn’t bother to be polite and let him carry to his heart’s content. As they walked, Chen Jianmin glanced at Mother Wei.
Leaning closer to Doctor Xie, he asked in a low voice, "Grandpa, you usually ask for one or two yuan at most for the consultation fee. Why did you ask for three yuan today?"
Doctor Xie gave him a glance and snorted when he saw his grinning face. "I used expensive equipment today. Of course the price is different," he said.
After a moment of pause, he asked, "Do you think I charged them more as retaliation for looking down on you?"
Hearing this, Chen Jianmin raised his eyebrows and asked, "That wasn’t the case?"
When he didn’t get any confirmation, he clutched his chest, and added sadly, "Grandpa, I always share the best things I have with you. How can you treat me like this? Is your heart made of stone?"
Doctor Xie was used to his antics. He rolled his eyes at him and replied, "It’s useless to use that tactic on me. Only Xiao Shu will fall for your tricks."
The moment he said this, Chen Jianmin’s expression changed instantly. The sadness and pitiful look vanished, replaced with a grin as he said, "Grandpa, only you know me best."
Doctor Xie glared at him, but the corners of his lips lifted. Most children feared him, so when he met a child who treated him so closely, he felt comfortable.
While the two of them were chatting, Mother Wei watched them with surprise as she walked a few steps behind.
Since moving to Xie Village, she often gathers with the women for a chat. From them, she found out that while Doctor Xie was skillful, he had an eccentric personality and was hard to approach. Most of the villagers didn’t dare to be disrespectful to him.
She had also sensed his indifference earlier when she spoke with him. So when she saw how well he treated Chen Jianmin, Mother Wei’s impression of the boy changed instantly.
