Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife-Chapter 1429: Heart Demon
The shame and guilt towards his daughter still haunt Han Yuheng until today. Even after five months, he didn't know how to face his daughter. But he missed her dearly and worried constantly about her well-being.
Since she left with his brother, he had sent money and letters every month for her treatment and living expenses. Still, she had refused to speak with either of them and only responded to his brother when he called them.
"It's my fault," he said softly before he continued, "She may never forgive me. But if Liling isn't ready to see us, we should give her time. I believe one day, she will be willing to talk to you."
Upon hearing his words, a familiar voice echoed in Bai Luyun's mind, 'You can't forgive him and truly let go of his betrayal. So, why are you still here? Why don't you divorce him? This isn't what you want. Bai Luyun, wake up from this dream and free yourself!'
The moment she heard the voice echoing in her mind, Bai Luyun felt a sharp headache and took in a sharp breath.
Noticing his wife's pale face, Han Yuheng quickly took their son from her arms and laid him down. Then, he gently massaged her head and asked, "Wife, is it the headache again?"
Bai Luyun nodded, biting her lip as she endured the pain. While her husband continued massaging her temples, the voice returned.
'Even if he apologized and vowed to change, you are still hurt by what he did. Bai Luyun, if you don't free yourself now, you will never get the chance again. In this life, you will become a puppet controlled by fate. Remember—this is your last chance.'
As the voice faded, the headache also began to ease. Ten minutes later, the pain finally disappeared, and she let out a long sigh of relief. When she opened her eyes, she saw her husband watching her with worry, confusion, and anxiety.
Seeing that she was no longer in pain, Han Yuheng took a towel from the bedside table and wiped her sweat. Looking into her eyes, he said, his voice tinged with pleading, "Wife, let's go to the hospital for a check-up, okay?"
Bai Luyun looked at him for a long moment before replying, "Husband, I'm fine."
"How can you be fine like this?" Han Yuheng said.
Taking a deep breath, he softened his voice and said, "Wife, we have money now. You don't need to save it. If you are worried we won't have enough, I will go to the mountains more often. But please, let's get you checked, alright?"
Torn inside, Bai Luyun didn't know what her true feelings were anymore. It felt so easy to keep living like this, yet she couldn't ignore the voice's temptation.
Every time she made up her mind, she changed it again the moment she saw how much her husband had changed.
Reaching out, she gently touched the crease on his forehead and asked, "Yuheng… which one of you is the real you?"
Confused, Han Yuheng asked, "Wife, what do you mean?"
"I don't know which version of you is real… and I don't know which version of me is real either. I want to continue living like this, but I still can't let go of your betrayal. I have tried, again and again… but it still hurts," she said softly.
She looked at him with conflicted eyes. "Tell me… what should I do now?"
Hearing her words, Han Yuheng felt like he had plunged into an icy lake. His heart sank, and his limbs turned cold. Holding her shoulders, he asked, "Wife, what are you saying? Why bring that up now?"
Bai Luyun looked at the man in front of her and remained silent. Time seemed to slow down and every passing second felt like an eternity, neither of them saying a word.
While Han Yuheng waited on edge, Bai Luyun was lost in thought. Just as she felt herself swayed by the voice in her mind, another voice chuckled softly. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"Child, why torment yourself so much that you gave birth to your own heart demon?" a young man's voice echoed in her mind.
The moment she heard it, the faint voice in her mind disappeared instantly. "Who are you?" she thought.
"Child, who I am doesn't matter. What matters is who you are."
"I don't understand," Bai Luyun replied.
The young man chuckled again and said, "Which version is real, which is fake—don't you already have the answer in your heart? No one is perfect. Whether divine being or mortal, all are born with seven emotions and six desires."
After a moment of silence, the young man sighed and added, "I will show you what you want to see. But as for the answer… You must find it yourself."
Before Bai Luyun could respond, a wave of drowsiness overwhelmed her. Just before falling asleep, she murmured, "Husband… I'm sleepy. Let me rest for a while…"
And then she closed her eyes and fell into a deep slumber. Seeing her suddenly go limp, Han Yuheng panicked. He shook her gently, calling out, "Wife? What's wrong?! Wife!"
His loud voice startled their son, who burst into tears. "Waaa! Waaa!"
Hearing the commotion, a middle-aged woman from next door called out, "Team leader? What's going on? Is something wrong?"
"Sister-in-law, my wife fainted! Please help me!" Han Yuheng shouted.
The woman didn't hesitate. She rushed inside and gasped when she saw Bai Luyun lying unconscious in Han Yuheng's arms.
"What happened?!"
"I don't know!" he said. "Sister-in-law, please watch my son! I'm taking my wife to the hospital!"
He gently laid his wife on the kang bed, grabbed their money and documents from the cabinet, and carried her on his back.
Without waiting for a response, he dashed outside and ran to borrow a bicycle from Han Jinhe.
After he left, the middle-aged woman regained her composure and picked up little Han Chanting. Gently patting the baby's back, she whispered, "Good child… Don't be afraid. Your mother will be fine."
