Make France Great Again-Chapter 911 - 902: Vayan Yields
"Your Majesty, I promise I’ll complete it on time!"
Alfonso Chasiepo responded to Jerome Bonaparte with an excited tone.
For Alfonso Chasiepo at this moment, no amount of money could match the pride of having his weapon appreciated by the Emperor.
"I await your good news at the Tuileries Palace!" Jerome Bonaparte said to Alfonso Chasiepo with a smile at the corner of his mouth.
Then, Jerome Bonaparte asked if Alfonso Chasiepo had chosen a suitable name for the machine gun.
Alfonso Chasiepo shook his head and replied to Jerome Bonaparte, "Since the weapon was just completed, I haven’t had the chance to name it yet."
Alfonso Chasiepo paused, then said, "If Your Majesty doesn’t mind, this multi-barrel shotgun could be named ’Napoleon Shotgun’!"
"No!" Jerome Bonaparte decisively rejected Alfonso Chasiepo’s suggestion and proposed a new name, "Since you invented this gun, let’s call it ’Chasiepo Machine Gun’!"
"Chasiepo Machine Gun?" Alfonso Chasiepo murmured to himself.
"That’s right! Chasiepo Machine Gun!" Jerome Bonaparte affirmed confidently to Alfonso Chasiepo.
Thus, the world’s first truly meaningful machine gun (as Montigny’s was more like an upgraded version of a volley gun) was born in the hands of Alfonso Chasiepo.
"Your medals and bonuses will be awarded once the Chasiepo Machine Gun is fully completed!" Jerome Bonaparte promised Alfonso Chasiepo and his team once more.
"Yes!" Alfonso Chasiepo responded emphatically.
Paul Mauser and William Mauser also smiled, having contributed to the design of the "Chasiepo Machine Gun," surely they would not be left out of the rewards.
"Alright, it’s getting late! We should head back!" Jerome Bonaparte raised his head, squinted at the blazing ball in the sky, then lowered his head and ordered Alfonso Chasiepo, "Leave the cleanup of the shooting range to you!"
Then, Jerome Bonaparte, Nie’er, and Minister Vayan left the shooting range under the gaze of Alfonso Chasiepo and others.
Walking slowly along the concrete road of the park, Jerome Bonaparte looked at the carriage getting closer and closer to them, stopped, and slowly asked, "Minister Vayan, do you still think the new tactics are unnecessary?"
Minister Vayan was taken aback, then lowered his head and replied with a somber tone to Jerome Bonaparte, "Your Majesty, I lost!"
The appearance of the Chasiepo Machine Gun was like an elephant stepping onto a balance, thoroughly crushing Minister Vayan.
At this moment, Minister Vayan believed that even the most conservative soldiers, upon seeing the terrifying firing speed of the Chasiepo Machine Gun, would no longer think of concentrating forces in one place for an attack.
Unless the commander of this army was out of his mind.
[The Russo-Japanese War and the British Army in WWI express strong approval.]
"Nie’er, did you hear that?" Jerome Bonaparte laughed to Chief of Staff Nie’er, "Our Minister of War has chosen to surrender so quickly!
Your speed at surrendering has surpassed the time we took to defeat the Kingdom of Prussia.
By the way, how many days did it take us to defeat the Kingdom of Prussia back then?"
"Seven days!" Chief of Staff Nie’er immediately replied to Jerome Bonaparte.
"Right, right! Seven days!" Jerome Bonaparte nodded in response to Nie’er.
Minister Vayan remained silent, enduring the Emperor’s teasing with resignation.
"Since Minister Vayan chose to admit defeat, according to the wager, you must treat us to a meal!" Jerome Bonaparte asked Minister Vayan, "Are you planning to invite us to your home or to dine at the Louvre Grand Hotel?"
"Your Majesty, whatever you say!" Minister Vayan "consciously" handed over the choice of dining location to Jerome Bonaparte.
Jerome Bonaparte thought for a moment, then turned to ask Nie’er, "Nie’er, what do you think?"
"Your Majesty, I think dining at Minister Vayan’s home would be better!" Nie’er replied solemnly.
"Minister Vayan, did you hear that?" Jerome Bonaparte turned to Vayan, "Lead the way now!"
"Ah!" Minister Vayan showed a surprised expression, not expecting His Majesty Emperor Jerome Bonaparte to want to dine at his home now.
"Ah, what!" Jerome Bonaparte raised an eyebrow slightly, "A bet is a bet!"
"But... Your Majesty, this is so sudden! I haven’t had anyone prepare yet... Can we postpone it a bit?" Minister Vayan suggested a postponement to Jerome Bonaparte.
"Of course..." Jerome Bonaparte stretched out his answer, "Of course not! We must go right now!"
"Yes!" Minister Vayan had no choice but to nod in agreement.
After Jerome Bonaparte and his companions left the Northern Industrial Park in their carriage, they headed south.
After traveling for nearly twenty minutes, the carriage finally arrived near the Bois de Boulogne in the suburbs of Paris, where Minister Vayan’s residence was located.
When the carriage stopped at the gate of the mansion, the gatekeeper, not recognizing the carriage (as Jerome Bonaparte rarely used ornate carriages, all his carriages looked like ordinary ones, making it difficult for people to discern who was inside), hurried over to the side of the carriage and, standing on his tiptoes, peered inside.
Due to the yellow-gray curtains hanging on the carriage windows, the gatekeeper could only vaguely see the number of people inside, unable to discern who exactly was in the carriage.
A few seconds later, the curtain slowly opened to reveal Minister Vayan’s face, startling the gatekeeper, who hurried over to the driver and said, "You may enter!"
The driver drove the carriage straight in and stopped near the mansion’s main entrance.
Vayan, Nier, and Jerome Bonaparte alighted from the carriage one by one. Upon seeing the ornately decorated mansion in front of him, Jerome Bonaparte couldn’t help but praise, "Minister Vayan, you’ve put considerable effort into the mansion’s decor!"
"Your Majesty, you’re too kind!" Minister Vayan humbly responded to Jerome Bonaparte.
Subsequently, Jerome Bonaparte, Nier, and Vayan entered the main hall.
The mansion’s butler, seeing Minister Vayan’s arrival, showed a surprised expression, not understanding why the minister, who normally did not return home at noon, had suddenly come back.
The butler hurried forward to bow to Minister Vayan, saying, "Welcome back, sir!"
"Where is Madam?" Minister Vayan asked the butler, glancing around for a moment.
"Madam..." The butler had a hint of awkwardness on his face, "Madam is probably still at the Opera House!"
Upon hearing the butler’s reply, Minister Vayan also couldn’t help but show an awkward expression, fully aware of his wife’s purpose in going to the Opera House.
In a sense, his wife’s actions were done with his tacit consent.
After all, at fifty-something, he couldn’t keep up, and his wife was only in her thirties.
However, with Emperor Jerome Bonaparte visiting the mansion, his wife still at the Opera House was quite embarrassing.
"Hurry and fetch her back!" Minister Vayan chided the butler.
"Yes, sir!" The butler shivered and quickly responded to Minister Vayan.
After the key person left, Minister Vayan forced a smile and explained to Jerome Bonaparte, "My wife is too fond of opera, so she often goes to the Opera House!"
"Hmm!" Jerome Bonaparte replied nonchalantly, not wanting to linger on this topic any longer.
The openness of Paris was a subtle kind, not one to be flaunted openly.
Although there were some ’discordant’ voices, the mainstream still advocated fidelity and morality.
A while later, Minister Vayan’s wife appeared in the living room. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Initially indifferent, upon seeing Jerome Bonaparte seated on the living room sofa, her face immediately showed disbelief.
"Your Maj... Your Majesty!" Minister Vayan’s wife said, slightly nervously, to Jerome Bonaparte.
"Hello, Madam Alein!" Jerome Bonaparte smiled at the woman who was barely in her thirties in front of him.
Then, following basic etiquette, Jerome Bonaparte kissed the back of Alein’s hand, and Madam Alein also kissed the back of Jerome Bonaparte’s hand.
Subsequently, Jerome Bonaparte informed Madam Alein that he intended to dine at the mansion.
"Well..." Madam Alein pondered briefly before telling Jerome Bonaparte.
There weren’t many types of food available in the mansion at the moment, so it might be challenging to prepare exquisite dishes.
There was no need for too many dishes; having too many would be a waste. Just prepare something simple.
"Please wait a moment; I’ll head to the kitchen!" Madam Alein responded to Jerome Bonaparte and then turned towards the kitchen.
A few minutes later, Madam Alein reappeared, informing Jerome Bonaparte that she had instructed the kitchen to prepare lunch and that it would be ready in about two hours.
During this time, Jerome Bonaparte played chess with Nier and Vayan.
Meanwhile, as the mansion’s hostess, Madam Alein did not sit beside the host but continuously tried to get closer to Jerome Bonaparte.
If not for Jerome Bonaparte eventually choosing to sit on a single sofa, Madam Alein would have probably gotten very close to him.
