Make France Great Again-Chapter 887 - 878: From Hell to Heaven
After confirming the type of minerals, Gaston immediately reported this news to Rastigne and Andre Milanovic, who were left in charge near the mining site,
Andre Milanovic asked Gaston puzzledly after listening: "Mr. Gaston, what exactly is the value of this mining site?"
Gaston sighed, responded to Andre Milanovic with a slightly regretful tone: "Regrettably, our research on metallic manganese is still ongoing! As far as I know, metallic manganese is used only for making crucibles and potassium permanganate, nothing else!"
"So, does that mean this mine is a worthless mine?" Andre Milanovic asked Gaston with a slightly excited tone.
"Indeed!" Gaston nodded and said to Andre Milanovic regretfully, "Most of the minerals in this site have high manganese content, but it’s a pity that manganese’s applications are too limited!
Perhaps in decades, when our research on manganese goes further, these minerals will find their utility!"
"Secretary, what should we do now?" Andre Milanovic turned his gaze to Secretary Rastigne, "Should we return the same way or continue to stay here?"
Secretary Rastigne looked grave, after a moment of silence, he said to Andre Milanovic: "Major Andre!"
"Yes!" Andre Milanovic straightened his body, responded to Rastigne firmly.
"Your troop will continue to guard here, make sure the mining site’s security!" Rastigne said seriously to Andre Milanovic.
"But..." Andre Milanovic wanted to argue, having stayed here for almost a month he wasn’t in favor of keeping his troops here.
"It’s an order!" Rastigne said to Andre Milanovic in a firm tone.
"Yes!" Andre Milanovic had to comply with Rastigne’s orders.
After all, Rastigne held the highest position in the Governor’s Mansion.
"Mr. Gaston, please accompany me to the Governor’s Mansion to report this news to the Governor!" Rastigne turned and said to Gaston.
Gaston and the members of the geological exploration team listened and smiled, they were delighted to think that once the survey was completed, they could return to France.
"Sure!" Gaston nodded to Rastigne and then further asked: "When do we depart?"
"Let’s set off now! There happens to be a supply ship coming today, we can return by that!" Rastigne responded to Gaston.
"Secretary, one more thing!" At this time, Andre Milanovic spoke again to Rastigne.
"What is it?" Rastigne asked Andre Milanovic.
Andre Milanovic replied to Rastigne: "Today is the time when the supply ship arrives! Since we are preparing to leave, there’s no need for resupply! Please inform the supply ship to return, that would avoid unnecessary waste!"
"Avoid unnecessary waste? Seems like you’re just reluctant to pick up the supplies!" Rastigne jokingly scolded.
Andre Milanovic merely chuckled without saying anything.
"Alright! I will inform them!" Rastigne nodded and replied to Andre Milanovic.
Thus, Gaston and his party, along with Rastigne, immediately set off from the open-air mining area to the embarkation site.
After a nearly three-hour journey, they finally arrived near the Enthuya Tribe at the embarkation site.
The two militiamen tasked with guarding the gate of the Enthuya Tribe quickly ran into the tribe to report the news to the Old Chief upon seeing Gaston and others.
The Old Chief hurriedly said to his grandson Bango Entuya: "Quick, come out with me!"
The Old Chief and Bango Entuya, the pair of grandfather and grandson, walked out of their house and arrived at the tribal gate, walking towards Rastigne and his party.
The Old Chief met Rastigne in the middle of the road, enthusiastically asking him: "Honorable Secretary, have you identified the minerals in that mining site?"
"What? Does your Enthuya Tribe want a share too?" Rastigne asked with a slightly unfriendly tone.
Having spent a few days in this place filled with forests and venomous snakes, Rastigne had accumulated a belly full of resentment.
If the type of ore was something the Governor’s Mansion or France needed, his work might have been worthwhile. Who would have thought the type of ore was completely useless, making him feel his efforts were worthless.
"No! That’s not it!" The Old Chief hurriedly replied, "Our Enthuya Tribe doesn’t mean that, we just want to...want to..."
"Want to inquire if the Governor’s Mansion needs help!" Bango Entuya helped his grandfather complete the sentence.
"Indeed!" The Old Chief looked at Bango Entuya with a grateful expression.
"That won’t be necessary!" Rastigne’s expression softened slightly, he replied lightly: "The minerals at that site are worthless scrap, we will withdraw all troops from the site after reporting to the Governor’s Mansion!"
"That’s really a pity!" The Old Chief sighed as well, originally planning to use the slaves under his control to work in the mines and earn a profit!
Now it seems his idea is destined to be nothing more than wishful thinking.
"Alright, enough talking! We’re ready to leave!" Rastigne said to the Old Chief.
"Then I won’t keep you! Safe travels!" The Old Chief said one last time.
After waiting for a long time at the landing site, Rastigne and Gaston saw a supply ship coming into view.
Upon seeing Rastigne on the shore, the ship’s captain quickly dispatched a small boat to bring him aboard, then asked: "Secretary, why are you personally here to receive the goods?"
Rastigne replied indifferently to the captain: "I’m not here to receive goods!"
"Then why are you here?" The captain looked at Rastigne, puzzled.
"I’m here to return to the Governor’s Mansion!" Rastigne further explained to the captain: "The work at the open-pit mine has been fully resolved, and now I need to report back to the Governor!"
"Secretary, is that mine a gold mine?" The captain quietly asked Rastigne.
"Gold mine?" Rastigne gave the captain a sidelong glance and replied irritably: "You’re dreaming! Unfortunately, it isn’t!"
"Ah!" The captain sighed.
"Enough! Don’t sigh. We need to depart!" Rastigne patted the captain’s shoulder and said.
"Secretary, our goods haven’t been delivered to them!" The captain reminded Rastigne.
"They specifically asked me to tell you they don’t need them!" Rastigne said to the captain.
The captain paused for a few seconds, then nodded to himself: "True! They’re not staying here for long; delivering more supplies would be wasteful!"
"Alright, we can set off!" Rastigne said to the captain. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Okay!"
The captain quickly ordered the crew to nod, and after half an hour the supply ship finally turned and set off, arriving at Libreville three and a half hours later.
Disembarking, Rastigne quickly left the ship and rushed back to the Governor’s Mansion with Gaston.
Upon reaching the Governor’s Office via the staircase, Rastigne saw Jerome Patterson sitting at the desk working, gently knocked on the door.
Jerome Patterson looked up at Rastigne, smiled and said: "Rastigne, Gaston, you’ve returned!"
"Yes!" Rastigne and Gaston replied to Jerome Patterson in unison.
Jerome Patterson set down his pen and invited Rastigne and Gaston to sit on the sofa by the desk for a chat.
Sitting on the sofa, Jerome Patterson asked the two about the type of ore, to which Gaston responded: "Governor, the open-pit mine produces manganese ore!"
"Manganese ore?!!!" Rastigne’s expression showed slight surprise; he was amazed at his uncle’s prophetic intuition.
This made him internally question whether his uncle was truly blessed by God; otherwise, how did he determine the ore was manganese?
"Indeed!" Gaston sighed again and said to Jerome Patterson: "Unfortunately, we couldn’t locate valuable ore for the Governor’s Mansion!"
"It’s not your fault, Gaston!" Jerome Patterson replied to Gaston, then politely invited him to rest.
After Gaston left, Jerome Patterson asked Rastigne, "How much would it cost if we set up a manganese processing plant near the mine."
"What!" Rastigne looked at Jerome Patterson in shock, wishing to ask his boss if he was out of his mind.
Then, Jerome Patterson informed him that France had already researched a method to desulfurize using manganese iron, meaning the demand for manganese would greatly increase worldwide. They need not import manganese from the New Continent!
Rastigne’s eyes lit up upon hearing this and he instantly understood Jerome Patterson’s intent: "I’ll get started immediately!"
"You need to move quickly!" Jerome Patterson urged Rastigne: "Not long from now, representatives from the Paris Northern Industrial Group will arrive!"
"Understood!" Rastigne stood up and responded seriously to Jerome Patterson.
A few days later, representatives from the Paris Northern Industrial Group appeared in Jerome Patterson’s Governor’s office, explaining to Jerome Patterson their intent to monopolize the manganese market.
