Chapter 54: Chapter 52: Lu Xuezhen’s Gratitude
Chapter 54 -52: Lu Xuezhen’s Gratitude
Lu Xuezhen awoke to find herself feeling much more relaxed; the tightness and pain in her chest had lessened to a faint ache. She touched the area tentatively and was surprised to feel that the swelling seemed to have gone down significantly. Was it her imagination? At that moment, she truly felt incredibly comfortable! All this was thanks to Qin Qin, who possessed medical skills that seemed to surpass even those of famous doctors. Meeting her felt like the best treatment she could have ever received from fate.
Turning her head, she saw Qin Qin resting against the back of a chair, her face etched with fatigue. Lu Xuezhen got out of bed, her heart aching as she watched Qin Qin in that state and picked up a piece of clothing nearby, intending to drape it over her. To her surprise, Qin Qin’s eyes fluttered open at that moment and, seeing Lu Xuezhen covering her with the garment, she smiled and said, “You’re awake!”
“Thank you, Qin Qin. I don’t know what I can do to show my appreciation!” Lu Xuezhen said as she took Qin Qin’s hand firmly, her face already wet with tears, “This past year, I’ve felt despair, panic, and fear. I never had any hope or happiness, but meeting you showed me that I can be this happy and filled with joy!”
But in the few days since she arrived at Guanyin Town, she had experienced a sense of normalcy and happiness like never before. It was very good, indeed!
Qin Qin smiled, “Don’t say that. Meeting each other must be a kind of destiny, I guess.”
She had grown quite fond of Lu Xuezhen too, considering her one of them since the moment she stood up for Qin Qin’s family.
Qin Qin stood up, sensing a return of strength in her body.
“Let’s go out for a walk.”
Lu Xuezhen nodded with a smile, and the two headed out of Guanyin Town.
The weather was quite nice that day, the sky even showcasing a bit of sun. Qin Qin took a deep breath and looked towards the countryside not far away.
“What are you looking at?” Lu Xuezhen walked up beside Qin Qin and followed her gaze to the fields. She had always lived in the city and rarely seen such a fresh and beautiful landscape.
“I’m looking for a suitable place to plant tea trees and fruit trees,” Qin Qin said, planning to cultivate the Spirit Fruit and Spiritual Tea.
Lu Xuezhen turned to Qin Qin and spoke in a soft voice, “I might know of a place.”
Qin Qin turned to her, “Oh? Let’s hear it.”
“There’s an abandoned orchard not far from Chuandu City. The terrain there is a bit higher compared to other farmlands. It’s been discarded, and I know the owners are looking to sell it off due to a debt they’re under. The price is a bit steep, which is why it hasn’t sold yet.” Lu Xuezhen spoke of the place she knew about, mentioning it immediately when she heard Qin Qin wanted to plant fruit trees.
“Let’s go take a look,” Qin Qin suggested, and Lu Xuezhen nodded in agreement. It was the afternoon, so they took a ride towards the orchard together.
The orchard was located in the outskirts of Ping County, close to Chuandu City. It took Qin Qin and Lu Xuezhen about an hour by car to get there.
After asking around for the owner’s house, Qin Qin and Lu Xuezhen headed towards it and found it in less than ten minutes.
However, a group of rough-looking people surrounded the entrance. Among them, a middle-aged man and woman were being cornered by a group of thugs, including a man around forty years old with a gold necklace who was staring at the couple coldly.
“Xiao Fu, are you going to pay up or not? Today is the final deadline. If you don’t give me the money, don’t fault my brothers here for their actions,” the man with the gold necklace, glaring down at the troubled couple, said.
“Brother Fang, please give me some more time,” the orchard owner pleaded with the man he addressed as Brother Fang.
Brother Fang had no interest in the pleas. He approached the couple, “You don’t drink a toast and you have to drink a forfeit, huh? How about this: hand over your orchard to me, and I’ll write off the five hundred thousand debt.”
“No, Brother Fang, I only owe you two hundred thousand. How could it become five hundred thousand?” The orchard owner’s face was filled with terror; he clearly remembered owing only two hundred thousand. How did it turn into five hundred thousand?
The orchard owner’s wife turned pale upon hearing Brother Fang’s words, “Brother Fang, could you have made a mistake?”
“A mistake? How could I make a mistake? A month ago, it was two hundred thousand. Add the interest over a month and naturally, it becomes five hundred thousand. Your lousy orchard is worth maybe four hundred thousand at most. I’m already taking a loss of a hundred thousand, so let’s not quibble over it,” Brother Fang snapped, taking out a sheet of paper. It was the orchard owner’s IOU, clearly stating the debt would rise to five hundred thousand if not paid off within a month.
“No!” The orchard owner lunged forward, trying to snatch his IOU. He knew he had been trapped, but there was nothing he could do. He turned to high-interest loans in desperation when his business failed and now, the debt had snowballed into this.
Seeing the owner lunge at him, Brother Fang smirked and kicked the owner in the chest, sending him tumbling to the ground. The owner’s wife knelt down, hugging her husband and started crying.
“Hand over the land deeds quick, or don’t blame my brothers for being unkind,” Brother Fang said impatiently.
“No…” the orchard owner shouted.
“Is that so? Alright then, boys, smash it up good!” Brother Fang barked, urging his thugs forward.

“No, don’t you dare touch my family’s belongings!” The orchard owner spread his arms to block the entrance, but how could he and his wife withstand the gang? The orchard owner appeared utterly desperate.
“Stop!” A clear voice called out, causing everyone to halt and turn toward the source.
Brother Fang looked over, curious to see who had the nerve to interrupt them.
When he saw two young women standing calmly not far off, watching the scene unfold, Brother Fang raised an eyebrow.
The group of thugs laughed uproariously upon seeing the newcomers, ridiculing Qin Qin and Lu Xuezhen for their apparent foolhardiness in trying to stop them.
Qin Qin and Lu Xuezhen ignored the mocking stares as they walked past the crowd toward the position of the orchard owner.
