Chapter 409: Chapter 409 Irina Vs Liam

Liam looked at the woman again, slower this time. He studied her face properly, not just a quick glance. He searched his memory carefully. Faces came easily to him. Names too. He had met too many dangerous people in the last few months to forget someone like her.

But no matter how hard he tried, nothing clicked.

He shook his head slightly.

"I don’t recall you from anywhere," he said honestly.

She did not look offended. In fact, she looked like she expected that answer.

"That’s fine," she replied. "I did not expect you to."

She took another step forward and spoke clearly.

"My name is Irina."

Liam blinked once.

"...Am I supposed to know you?"

She shook her head calmly.

"No."

Then she straightened her posture slightly, her voice turning more formal.

"I might as well introduce myself properly. My name is Irina Volkova. Alpha of the werewolves."

For a second, Liam just stared at her. Then he let out a short laugh. It was not mocking, more like disbelief mixed with amusement.

"Alpha?" he repeated.

He glanced briefly at the injured werewolf behind her, then back at her again.

"That’s a good one," he said with a grin. "You almost had me."

Irina watched him quietly, her eyes sharp. She did not interrupt him. She let him finish his silent judgment.

"You really think I would buy that?" Liam continued. "Alpha of the werewolves? You?"

She tilted her head slightly.

"Let me guess," she said. "You are probably thinking how a woman could be the alpha. Especially someone this young."

Liam did not even hesitate.

"I don’t think someone so young can lead werewolves," he said bluntly. "And certainly not a woman."

The injured werewolf behind her growled weakly, clearly offended.

Irina did not.

Instead, she smiled.

Not an angry smile. Not a forced one. A calm, confident smile that made it clear she did not need his approval.

"That is fair," she said. "Most people think the same."

She stepped forward again, closing the distance between them slightly.

"So how about this," she continued. "We settle it properly."

Liam raised an eyebrow.

"Settle what?"

"We duel," Irina said simply. "If I win, you accept that I am the alpha. No more doubts. And you will owe me a favor."

Liam’s eyes sharpened slightly.

"And if I win?"

Irina answered without hesitation.

"If you win, I will do whatever you want."

That made Liam pause for half a second.

Then he rubbed his hands together slowly, an excited grin spreading across his face.

"...Just incredible," he said. "This night keeps getting better."

He was already imagining how this would end. He could feel it in his bones. He was stronger. Faster. More experienced. He had fought monsters, vampires, enhanced humans. A werewolf alpha or not, he was confident.

Irina noticed the look on his face immediately.

Her smile tightened just a little.

"Just so we are clear on one thing," she said quickly. "I will not do anything sexual with you. Even if you win."

Liam almost choked on his own breath.

He coughed hard, stepping back half a step.

"What?" he snapped. "Why the hell would I want to have sex with you?!"

Irina raised one eyebrow slowly.

"Because most men would," she replied calmly.

Liam stared at her for a moment, then rolled his eyes.

"Chill," he said. "I’m not having you do anything sexual. I don’t even know you."

Irina studied his face for a second, as if making sure he was telling the truth.

Then she nodded once.

"Good."

She took two steps back and lowered her center of gravity slightly. Her posture shifted instantly. Gone was the relaxed confidence. Now she stood like a predator ready to strike.

She raised her hands slowly, her fingers curling slightly like claws.

A faint pressure rolled through the air around her.

"Then let’s dance."

Liam watched Irina carefully.

Not just her stance or her posture, but the way her presence changed the space between them. The air around her felt heavier now, thicker, like something dangerous had just been uncaged.

Her nails slowly extended, skin stretching as bone shifted beneath it. In seconds they were no longer nails but sharp claws, curved and deadly. Her eyes darkened, the pupils swallowing the whites until a deep red glow replaced them. It was not rage. It was control. Focus.

Her aura shifted completely.

Liam felt it brush against his skin, a pressure that told him clearly that this woman was not bluffing.

"Don’t worry," she said, smiling as if they were about to spar for fun. "I’m not going to hurt you."

She bent her knees slightly, then lifted off the ground in a smooth, effortless leap. No wasted movement. No hesitation. Her body moved like it was built for violence.

Liam tilted his head back and followed her rise calmly. His mind worked fast, weighing options.

Should he go all out?

He knew he could end this quickly if he wanted. He also knew that doing so would prove nothing. This was a duel, not a battle to the death. More importantly, he wanted to see how far she could go.

So he decided to match her energy.

Irina came down fast, claws cutting through the air aimed straight for his head. Liam stepped to the side at the last second, her claws slicing empty space where his face had been a moment earlier.

Before she could pull back, Liam’s hand shot out. He caught her wrist mid-motion and twisted hard, turning her momentum against her. His other palm slammed into her lower belly.

The impact was solid.

Irina was sent flying backward, skidding across the pavement before flipping and landing on her feet several meters away. She slid to a stop, boots scraping concrete, then straightened.

For the first time, surprise crossed her face.

She had expected him to dodge. She had not expected him to counter that fast.

A slow smile spread across her lips.

"Nice," she said honestly.

She stomped her boot into the ground, cracking the pavement slightly. This time, she did not jump.

She ran.

The ground blurred beneath her feet as she closed the distance in a heartbeat. Her speed was different from the werewolf Liam had fought earlier. More controlled. More refined.

It caught Liam off guard.

He shifted sideways again, instinctively repeating the same dodge.

Irina’s smile widened.

She had anticipated it.

Mid-sprint, her body twisted in a way that made no sense. Her torso rotated, spine bending unnaturally as her legs adjusted without slowing. In one fluid motion, she changed direction completely while maintaining full speed.

Liam’s eyes narrowed.

She was already facing him again.

Bang!

Her boot slammed into his chest.

Liam barely managed to raise both arms in time, blocking the kick, but the force still sent him sliding backward several steps. His boots dug into the ground as his arms went numb from the impact.

She did not give him time to recover.

Irina pressed forward instantly, claws flashing toward his throat. The strike was clean, sharp, and aimed to kill if this were real combat.

Instead of dodging, Liam stepped in.

He grabbed her wrist mid-swing, fingers locking around it like iron. The moment his grip closed, he yanked her toward him using pure strength.

Irina’s feet left the ground.

Her body was pulled off balance, her momentum stolen in an instant. She reacted fast, twisting her hips and trying to slash with her free hand, but Liam was already moving.

He pulled her closer, muscles tightening as he dragged her straight into his space.

The duel was no longer about speed.

It was about strength.

And in that moment , Irina realized she had underestimated just how dangerous Liam really was.
