Chapter 518: Chapter 283: The Invitation from the High Leader, Gan Wenchang: byd, can you guess where the highest place in the entertainment industry is?_2
“Stop thinking this and that, by the time you make up your mind, they could already have kids.”
“But… but now there’s another guy pursuing her, you know that too,” Zhou Mian started to hesitate again, “That director, and he’s also a rich second-generation.”
“Has he succeeded?”
“Don’t know, didn’t ask.”
“Didn’t ask, what are you talking about?” Xu Qingyan retorted sharply, “You’re hesitating while time keeps moving forward. It’s like a train, and the conductor is asking if you’re boarding.”
‘And you’re still persistently asking what’s the next stop, when does it halt? Is the train safe, how much does a ticket cost, can you buy a ticket halfway through?’
...
‘Who cares, just get on the train, man. You’re immersed in your script, missing out on another script. The outcome is not important, go and do what you think is important.’
A flurry of words left Zhou Mian completely bewildered.
He hung up the phone.
Zhou Mian sat alone in the car, suddenly snapping back to reality as if his soul had returned. He felt a chill, wondering what he was still doing there, it was time to drive home and sleep.
Before starting the car, he sent a message to Chen Niannian.
‘Where’s the gathering? Call me when it’s time.’
Chen Niannian replied quickly, curious.
‘Brother Mian, aren’t you busy?’
‘Busy yet not busy, everything’s over now,’ Zhou Mian said, ‘Besides work and friends, there doesn’t seem to be anything else that’s demanding.’
This time, Chen Niannian typed several times, hesitating for a while before she could actually send anything.
‘You and your sister-in-law…’
‘Yeah, done with the matter, on my way back,’ Zhou Mian’s mind flashed through Xu Qingyan’s advice as he typed slowly, ‘Going back to sleep, switch up the mood and continue working.’
‘Brother Mian, it’s good that you can see it through,’ Chen Niannian replied, ‘I don’t know how to comfort you, but I hope you can get better soon.’
‘Hmm.’
After closing the chat interface, Zhou Mian couldn’t help but let out a sigh. He started the car, thinking that if it had been Xu Qingyan just now, he might have already arranged to go out with Chen Niannian.
Even though he knew what to say, some words were still hard to utter.
Perhaps, that’s just his nature.
Capital City.
After hanging up, Xu Qingyan returned to the meeting room where Gan Wenchang looked up at him.
“Where did you go?”
“A friend asked me for advice on chasing girls, we chatted briefly,” Xu Qingyan said offhandedly, “As for how useful it’ll be, it’s up to his own fate.”
“A simp?”
“Not exactly, more like a giver type,” Xu Qingyan leaned back on the plush office chair, “Habits are like rolling stones down a mountain—once they start, they can’t be stopped.”
“Hey, speaking of simps, I suddenly remembered a friend of mine,” Gan Wenchang started but then stopped, noticing Xu Qingyan giving him a strange look.
“Seriously, I really have this friend. You know how it is for me, hardly encountering true love or anything. Always fussing about being well-matched in social and economic status, but this—”
“I never pursue girls first; it’s not that interesting to me. Love is a spiritual need; I don’t have such high spiritual aspirations. I’m a materialistic person, I pursue more tangible things.”
“Alright, no need to explain,” Xu Qingyan waved him off, “Just spit it out, I won’t misunderstand.”
“Actually, it’s nothing much, just pampering her, throwing birthday parties,” Gan Wenchang said, “But then, he gave up and ended up being called a jerk everywhere.”
“Damn you, son of a bitch, why the hell do you keep staring at me? Piss off!”
Xu Qingyan chuckled, “Just passing a glance, by the way… Zhao Mingyuan didn’t look for me, did he?”
“He did, I told him you went to see a doctor for palace-cold,” Gan Wenchang said casually, “What’s with Zhao Mingyuan anyway? Like a disciple, he’s always looking for you, asking this and that every day.”
“How should I know? I can’t answer his questions either,” Xu Qingyan stretched out, looking up at the ceiling, “Right now, all I want is to go home, thinking about my drama crew.”
“You’re still concerned about that lame sitcom? Once you nail this gig, you’ll be deified,” Gan Wenchang glanced at him, voicing the puzzlement he’d felt all along.
“Why do you seem to always choose the harder path instead of an easier one?”
“I also want to take the easier route; who doesn’t want that?” Xu Qingyan replied, “I just provided a script, that’s not mine. I have to go back and shoot ‘The Legend of Martial Arts’.”
“You’re insane, really…” Gan Wenchang cursed under his breath, but then suddenly turned around to ask, “Were you serious just now?”
Updated from freewёbnoνel.com.
“Hmm.”
Gan Wenchang was at a loss for words, squinting as he took another look at Xu Qingyan. He suddenly realized that he couldn’t quite see through this man he had worked with for months, whose will seemed truly indestructible.
He would stick to his goals, walking his chosen path, no matter what. Even if he found watermelons along the way, he would never linger too long, always moving forward.
“But right now, if you stick with us, completing this drama will make you the best screenwriter,” Gan Wenchang urged, “Times are much better now; there are buyers for red-themed TV dramas.”
“Even Zhao Mingyuan, that old brat, is always talking about the Magnolia Award. If you leave like this, at most you’ll get a Best Screenwriter award.”
“One award is enough, greed can lead to indigestion,” Xu Qingyan remained unmoved.
“Fine, you’re the boss,” resigned, Gan Wenchang gave him a thumbs-up.
Xu Qingyan wasn’t too fazed; he had always been clear about his objectives, focusing on the important and letting go of the trivial. For him, getting his hands completely involved wasn’t worth the return; it didn’t make sense.
As long as the script was settled, to him, that was a victory.
He didn’t need to worry about the shooting aspect; with He Guojin and Ji Shi’an involved, the drama’s quality was assured. Now that the project was green-lit, airing was just a matter of time.
Right then, Zhao Mingyuan pushed the door open, exclaiming with delight.
“Xu, there you are! Quick, pack up and come with me.”
