Chapter 3: Lust at First Sight Editor: Henyee Translations

Sherry Walsh and Rory Linden had been classmates since elementary school. Her father was a lawyer, and her family was well-off.

She was long accustomed to seeing luxury cars and designer watches.

If she were surprised at seeing anything, it had to be an exceptionally luxurious car.

Rory followed Sherry’s finger and looked over.

It was a black sedan that didn’t seem particularly special at first glance.

Just as she was about to look away, the chauffeur got out, walked halfway around the car, and opened the rear passenger door.

A tall man stepped out of the car. The dim evening light cast sharp shadows, outlining the severe contours of his face. His ink-black eyes seemed tinged with frost, betraying no emotion.

His dark suit caught the warm glow of the streetlights, accentuating his tall, trim figure.

’It’s him!’

The moment she saw his face, Rory felt her heart skip a beat.

Several men who had been waiting nearby immediately rushed over, and surrounded him as they escorted him toward the clubhouse entrance.

"That bald one is Mr. Dawson, the chairman of Aether Group. He’s worth at least three hundred million," Sherry said, as she watched the group. "The shortest, fattest one is President Grant, the head of Cascade Films."

As Rory listened to Sherry’s introductions, she couldn’t help but ask, "And the man who just got out of the car... do you know him?"

’A man surrounded by CEOs worth tens of billions must have an even higher status.’

’I’m just an ordinary doctor. Getting involved with the Harrington Family was already a fluke. There’s no way I would know someone of his stature.’

"That one... never seen him before." Sherry shook her head. "But I recognize the guy next to him. That’s Henry Lancaster, the eldest son of the Lancaster Family. He was a classmate of my brother’s. He’s a notorious playboy, and anyone who hangs around with him is definitely bad news." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Rory listened to Sherry’s words, with her gaze remaining fixed on the man.

For some reason, the man suddenly glanced in her direction. His eyes lingered for a second before he turned and walked straight into the clubhouse.

’He saw me!’ Rory Linden was certain of it.

"Sherry, let me show you something..."

Rory rummaged through her bag and took out the cufflink from the previous night.

"What’s this?" Sherry picked up the cufflink and examined it closely. "A Black Opal cufflink. This is expensive. Why is there only one? It’s not Miles’, is it? Did you..."

"No, it belongs to that man from just now," Rory cut in, her gaze drifting toward the clubhouse. "The man who got out of the Bentley."

Seeing Sherry’s shocked expression, Rory briefly explained what had happened the night before.

She took the cufflink back. "Those guys at the entrance must be his bodyguards, right? I want to give this back to one of them."

"Anyone who hangs out with Henry is bad news. They’re all playboys. He definitely just thinks you’re pretty and wants to hit on you." Sherry linked her arm through Rory’s. "Come on, I’ll go with you."

Rory was exceptionally beautiful.

She had a delicate, heart-shaped face framed by cascading waves of honey-blonde hair that caught the light beautifully. Her eyes were a striking shade of blue-green, set beneath perfectly arched brows.

If she had been born into a wealthy family, her beauty would have been a definite asset.

But since she came from an ordinary background, her beautiful face often brought more trouble than it was worth.

Rory also figured the man was only interested in her looks.

’It’s best to return this cufflink as soon as possible.’

The two of them walked to the clubhouse entrance, but before Rory could even take out the cufflink...A man in a suit and glasses approached them. "Miss Linden, my boss asked me to inform you that he will retrieve the cufflink from you personally at a later time."

Rory froze.

Sherry was instantly indignant. "What does your boss mean? He just leaves his cufflink with a stranger and expects her to hold onto it? Doesn’t he bother to ask what she thinks? Does he believe he can do whatever he wants just because he’s rich?!"

The man replied respectfully, "My boss says he and Miss Linden are acquainted. It’s just that Miss Linden has a great deal on her mind and has simply forgotten him."

Rory glanced at the nearby bodyguards, and felt that the man’s status was indeed very high.

Not wanting to cause any trouble for Sherry, she quickly said, "Then we can deal with it next time."

With that, she pulled Sherry toward the side of the road.

Since they had both been drinking, they had called for a driver who could drive for them.

Once they were in the car, Sherry said angrily, "What are you so afraid of? It would be way too easy for a guy like him to find you. If you don’t give it back now, what are you going to do when he shows up at your hospital?"

"If he finds me at the hospital, I’ll give it back to him then," Rory said earnestly. "Besides, I did help him last night, in a way. He’s not going to do anything to me."

"If he dares to give you any trouble, you just tell me. I’ll have my dad sue him into bankruptcy!"

"Okay, thank you."

Rory linked her arm with Sherry’s.

’Thank goodness she had a good friend like Sherry.’

Rory didn’t plan on imposing on Sherry for long. After she got home, she took out her phone, downloaded a real estate app, and started looking for apartments to rent near Elysian Hospital.

For years, she had either lived in a school dormitory or at Miles’ place. This would be her first time renting an apartment.

Meanwhile...

Lucy Shaw had already moved her luggage into Miles Harrison’s villa.

Miles returned home late from a business engagement.

Lucy emerged from the bedroom wearing a beautiful silk nightgown. She wrapped her arms around Miles’s neck and cooed, "What took you so long? I missed you..."

This was the kind of act Miles Harrison was most found of.

He did like Rory, but he always felt something was missing with her—namely, she didn’t know how to act coy and win his affection.

In Miles’s eyes, a woman who knew how to be playful and show a little vulnerability was the most lovable.

He said nothing, but simply wrapped his arm around her waist and lowered his head to kiss her lips.

One thing led to another.

The next day...

The morning alarm went off, and Miles rolled out of bed.

After washing up, he turned and walked into the adjacent dressing room, only to have his brows furrow.

When Rory had been there, the dressing room was always neat, with every item of clothing neatly arranged by season and color.

But now, several sections were filled with women’s clothing, and his own clothes had been shoved into an adjacent cabinet, crammed together in a messy heap.

Fortunately, there was still one outfit left that Rory had put together for him before she left.

Miles changed and went downstairs. Seeing the breakfast Mrs. Thorne brought out, he said, "I don’t eat these bamboo shoots."

Mrs. Thorne quickly grabbed a pair of clean chopsticks and removed them from his plate.

"Rory knows my preferences perfectly. Call and ask her." Miles’s gaze flickered toward the first-floor bedroom before he added, "And don’t tell her that Lucy is staying here yet."

At that moment, Lucy was already awake.

Leaning against the doorway, she had heard every word Miles said, and a hint of displeasure crossed her face.

’What does he mean by that? Surely Miles isn’t still thinking about getting back together with Rory Linden?!’

From outside, Mrs. Thorne’s hushed question could be heard. "Mr. Harrison, is Miss Linden... not coming back anymore?"

After a brief silence, Miles’s voice replied, "She needs to be taught a lesson. She throws a fit every other day, and I don’t have the time to play her games."
