Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 240: "Sean Harrison, You’re Drunk.
"Is she your sister-in-law?"
The bride chimed in.
Henry Lancaster glanced at Rory Linden, and only nodded when he saw she didn’t react. "Yes, yes, she is!"
After he spoke, he glanced at Sean Harrison again. The man was clearly in a good mood.
There were hundreds of tables of guests in the entire venue. The bride and groom had to go from table to table making toasts, so they couldn’t stay at any one table for too long.
Henry Lancaster raised his glass and exchanged a few pleasantries with everyone before leaving with his wife.
As soon as the newlyweds left, people immediately began coming over to toast Sean Harrison one after another.
No matter what reason the person gave, Rory Linden had to stand beside him like a human smiling machine, occasionally raising her glass of water and taking a sip, toasting with it in place of wine.
In the hour after the wedding ceremony ended, an untold number of people came to toast Sean Harrison.
Sean Harrison had almost no time to sit down and eat.
Rory Linden spent half her time helping the man deal with these people, and she was almost full from drinking so much water.
’I can’t imagine how Sean Harrison is holding up.’
After seeing off two more people who came to offer toasts, Rory Linden finally couldn’t help but speak up. "Can you... drink a little less?"
"Okay."
The moment she spoke, he immediately responded.
It was as if he had been waiting for her to say that all along.
Sean Harrison tilted his head to look at her. "From now on, I’ll just take a small sip. I won’t finish the glass."
"...That’s for you to decide. I just think you’re drinking too much."
Rory Linden was simply expressing her concern.
She had seen Sean Harrison drink before, but never as much as he was drinking today.
Sean Harrison was a man of high status. Most of the people toasting him just wanted to curry favor, not actually get him drunk.
The way the man was drinking, glass after glass, was more like...
He was getting himself drunk.
The man was true to his word. Afterward, whenever someone came to toast him, he would only take a small sip.
When the wedding reception ended, Rory Linden took the man’s arm, accompanying him as he calmly said goodbye to Henry Lancaster, the Lancasters, and other familiar guests.
Rory Linden was astonished by the man’s condition.
Throughout the entire wedding banquet, the man had been busy entertaining people and had barely eaten a few bites of food.
Yet now, as they walked out of the banquet hall, the man who had drunk so much on an almost empty stomach showed no sign of being drunk at all. He didn’t even seem any different from when they had first arrived.
This state lasted until the two of them got into the car.
Rory Linden got in the car first, and Sean Harrison followed, sitting down beside her.
The moment the car door closed, Sean Harrison suddenly reached out and grabbed Rory Linden’s hand. He leaned his entire body gently against hers, finally daring to take a couple of deep breaths.
The strong smell of alcohol spread with his every breath, especially noticeable in the small, enclosed space of the car.
"Take me home..."
Sean Harrison spoke softly.
His voice was completely different from how it had been in the banquet hall.
It seemed that only in this space, alone with her, did he dare to truly relax and be himself.
Rory Linden hummed in acknowledgment.
Faced with this side of him, she found she had no reason to refuse.
However, she still tried to pull her hand from his grasp. But the moment she moved, his hand tightened, his fingers completely enveloping her own, leaving her no room to escape.
The car moved slowly.
It was already nine o’clock at night, and there were few cars on the road.
The air conditioning was on in the car, making the temperature inside very low.
It made Rory Linden even more aware of the burning heat of the man’s palm.
She could also feel that the hand holding hers seemed to be trembling slightly for some reason.
The drive was clearly a long one, but when the car finally stopped, Rory Linden felt as if time had passed very quickly.
The car stopped in the underground garage of the apartment complex where they had once lived together.
But the man still had no intention of letting go.
"Rory Linden, I’m drunk." Sean Harrison looked at the woman beside him. "I’ve compressed three years of dinners into this single night. This might be the last time we ever eat together. Can you... please take me home?"
"Okay."
Rory Linden agreed quickly.
She could tell that Sean Harrison was truly drunk. ’I should at least see him home,’ she thought.
’In any case, his foundation did a good thing for the orphanage.’
A ripple of a smile appeared in the depths of Sean Harrison’s dark eyes. The pressure on her hand lessened slightly, but he didn’t let go.
The two of them got out of the car.
As soon as they got into the elevator, Sean Harrison continued, "I barely ate anything just now. I’m a little hungry. Could you order some takeout for me? I’ll pay you back."
"..."
Rory Linden knew what the man was implying.
Maybe it was because she’d heard so many people call her "Mrs. Harrison" tonight, but she found she had no intention of refusing his request.
’Just for tonight,’ she thought.
’I’ll let go of my principles and follow my heart, just this once, and take care of him.’
’I’ll just consider it a thank you for saving Leo during the kidnapping that day.’
"Is that okay?"
When the man didn’t hear her reply, he asked again.
"Okay." Rory Linden took out her phone. "Let’s not order takeout. If you don’t mind, I can make you some porridge."
"Okay."
Sean Harrison didn’t refuse.
When they reached the top floor, the apartment door opened.
As Rory Linden stepped inside, the first thing she saw was the entryway, and her expression froze slightly.
The entryway was exactly the same as it had been five years ago, before she left.
When she first came to this apartment, the entire place had been decorated very simply, almost no different from a model home.
Later, during that time, she had bought a few small decorations.
Like the little figurine in the entryway for holding keys.
When she left, she had thrown that figurine away.
But now, there was an identical little figurine in the entryway.
Rory Linden already realized what this meant.
She changed her shoes and entered the living room. Everywhere she looked, everything was exactly as she remembered.
The vase on the coffee table was the one they had bought on January 11th, the day they were supposed to go register their marriage.
She had bought it.
There were fresh flowers in it, seemingly no different from her memory.
Even the colors and types of flowers were exactly the same.
Looking at everything before her, Rory Linden’s eyes inexplicably started to burn.
She couldn’t understand why Sean Harrison would do this. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
He was the one who had been so heartless back then, but now he was acting as if he were the one trapped in the past.
Rory Linden suppressed the emotions swelling inside her and turned to enter the kitchen. "President Harrison, let me get you a glass of water first."
Sean Harrison followed her into the kitchen and pressed one hand on the counter. "Call me Sean Harrison. And you don’t have to be so formal with me."
"..."
Rory Linden didn’t respond at first.
She poured a glass of warm water and silently handed it to Sean Harrison.
The man took the glass, his eyes lowered. His dark gaze rippled along with the surface of the water in his hand.
"I’ve had so much to drink. I could easily act like a scoundrel—hold you, kiss you, even force you to do anything. But I can’t convince myself to do it."
Sean Harrison’s voice was terribly hoarse, and the smile on his lips was strained. "I know we don’t have a future together, but I don’t want the only memories you have of me for the rest of your life to be of hatred."
The reason Rory Linden was willing to come back with him...
...was because she knew, deep down, that even if Sean Harrison was drunk, he would never force her to do anything.
She couldn’t forgive him.
But she trusted him.
Rory Linden averted her gaze and said, "Sean Harrison, you’re drunk."
