Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 191: [Big Brother is drunk, go check on him if you’re free.]
Henry Lancaster was starting to think Veridia was a seriously jinxed place.
The person they had just been talking about was now standing in the same elevator with them.
And...
’This kid...’
Rory Linden spotted Sean Harrison at a glance. The man was leaning against the wall, his face an unnatural shade of red, and the whole elevator reeked of alcohol.
It was obvious he’d had a lot to drink.
Rory Linden quickly pulled Leo Linden to stand behind her and said, "You guys go on up ahead."
Henry Lancaster already blamed Rory Linden for Sean Harrison’s current state, so seeing her try to avoid them made him even angrier.
Just then, the elevator next to theirs arrived on the first floor. Rory Linden turned and whisked Leo Linden into it.
However, when mother and son stepped out of the elevator...
Henry Lancaster and Sean Harrison were just getting out of theirs.
Rory Linden acted as if she hadn’t seen them, pulling Leo Linden along as she walked briskly toward their room. She hurried inside, not daring to linger for a second longer.
Inside the room, before Rory Linden could compose herself, Leo Linden spoke up. "Mommy... that uncle just now."
"What about him?"
Rory Linden’s heart leaped into her throat.
"I bumped into him when I was skateboarding earlier." Leo Linden finished, then added seriously, "But I already told him I was sorry."
Rory Linden froze for a second, then quickly asked, "And then what?"
Leo Linden tilted his head. "Then my teacher helped me apologize too, and he forgave us."
"..." ’I am a little worried,’ Rory thought, but she praised her son first. "You did the right thing. Good job, Leo."
Hearing the praise, Leo Linden’s pretty eyes curved into crescents, looking especially adorable.
He had been skateboarding for over an hour that evening and was exhausted.
After his bath, he fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.
Watching her son sleep, Rory Linden couldn’t help but think of the drunk Sean Harrison from earlier.
She stood inside by the door, hesitating for a long time. Then, on some strange impulse, she opened it...
She knew that after all this time, he was probably already asleep, but she couldn’t resist the urge to go out and see.
Rory Linden had just stepped into the doorway when...
"Rory Linden."
Henry Lancaster, who had been waiting in the hallway, suddenly walked over.
!
Rory Linden jumped!
Henry Lancaster strode over, and his first words were, "That little boy just now... he’s not my brother’s son, is he?!"
"No." Rory Linden’s reply was firm and absolute.
"Who are you kidding? He’s the spitting image of my brother."
Henry Lancaster was very unhappy with her clumsy lie. He didn’t bother calling her out on it and asked directly, "My brother said you’re living abroad now and heading back the day after tomorrow, right?"
Rory Linden nodded.
"Good enough." Henry Lancaster said deliberately, "My brother’s business is huge now, and he’s got a lot of women around him. He’s moved on from the past, moved on from you."
Henry Lancaster used to call Rory Linden "sister-in-law" all the time.
But that was only because of his relationship with Sean Harrison.
In his eyes, Sean Harrison had always been perfect.
Today was the first time he’d ever seen him lose control, drinking himself into this state, all because this woman, Rory Linden, had shown up.
And all this while knowing she was married with a child.
And now, it turned out the child was actually his...
Henry Lancaster wanted to see what Rory Linden’s attitude was first.
He looked at Rory Linden and continued, "However, if he knew the boy was his son, maybe you two would still have a chance."
"I don’t need that kind of chance. I’m taking my son back home the day after tomorrow, and I won’t see him again."
Rory Linden couldn’t suppress the tension rising within her.
She could probably ask Ethan Dixon not to say anything about her son.
But Henry Lancaster was a rich, spoiled heir; he would never listen to her.
"Isn’t that why you had the child in the first place? Planning to use him to get a piece of my brother’s inheritance?" Henry Lancaster looked at her as if he could see right through her. "Actually, my brother is a sentimental guy. If you just tell him, he’ll definitely take good care of you and your son."
The hallway was silent.
Rory Linden looked at the young master before her and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
"President Lancaster, I went abroad alone to give birth to Leo. I had no money, I was juggling work and my studies, sleeping only three hours a day. I struggled all the way to get where I am today, and now that my life is finally a little better, it wasn’t for the sake of someone else’s money, and it certainly wasn’t so someone could ’take good care of us’."
Rory Linden stared fixedly at the man before her. "Young Master, you’ve probably never met someone who’s poor but has pride, have you? Well, that’s exactly the kind of person I am."
"..."
"Back then, it was Sean Harrison who broke up with me. I never once went to him for help during my hardest times. What makes you think that now that things are finally better, I’d go running back to him so he can ’take good care of us’?"
Rory Linden enunciated every word of her question.
Her words left Henry Lancaster speechless.
The environment he grew up in was, in a way, very sheltered.
Everything Rory Linden said ran completely contrary to his assumptions.
"I’m an ordinary person. You and I are from two different worlds. I once rashly tried to enter yours, only to find I didn’t belong." Rory Linden said, "President Lancaster, you have the right to tell him about this, but it won’t change the outcome."
After she finished speaking, she turned and went back into her room.
Only when the door clicked shut did Rory Linden feel the frantic pounding of her heart.
She guessed that, given Henry Lancaster’s relationship with Sean Harrison, he would definitely tell him.
’What if Sean Harrison tries to fight for custody of Leo?’
Just as Rory Linden’s thoughts were in turmoil...
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
A knock came from the door behind her.
Then, she heard footsteps moving away.
Rory Linden hesitated for a moment before opening the door.
No one was outside.
But there was a piece of paper on the floor.
Just as she picked up the paper, a hotel key card fell out from inside it.
A few words were hastily scrawled on the paper.
"My brother’s drunk. You should go check on him if you have time."
Below it was a room number.
3720.
It was the room diagonally across from hers.
Rory Linden bent down to pick up the key card, her gaze fixed on the closed door diagonally across the hall.
’Sean Harrison really was quite drunk earlier. He’s probably asleep by now, right?’
A clear voice in Rory Linden’s head told her she shouldn’t go.
She had already moved on. She should leave the past behind and not look back.
But an unstoppable impulse rose within her, an urge to go see him while he was asleep...
If she went back to her country the day after tomorrow and decided never to return, they would never see each other again.
Rory Linden closed the door to her own room and walked, step by step, to the door of room 3720.
She gently placed the key card on the sensor.
With a soft mechanical whir, the sensor lit up green.
Rory Linden put the card away, placed her hand on the doorknob, and took a deep breath...
...then slowly pushed the door open.
