Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 174: "I Will Accept Any Result.
As she spoke, her voice trembled slightly.
Sean Harrison could tell she was crying.
He really wanted to go see her right away, to hold her and tell her, "I’m sorry."
But he couldn’t.
He had long anticipated what was happening at this very moment.
He understood Rory Linden. He could guess what she would say and do.
But...
He couldn’t bring himself to be selfish enough to take away a part of Rory Linden’s future plans.
Rory Linden waited for a long, long time. When no answer came from Sean Harrison, she finally asked, "Are you trying to break up with me?"
"..."
"Then find some time to tell me officially. Look, you never even formally asked me to be your girlfriend when we got together. Our breakup should at least be a little more formal, shouldn’t it? So I won’t be left in a daze, always feeling like we’re still a couple."
Rory Linden couldn’t help but sniffle.
Her voice was heavy with tears, but she tried her best to sound calm.
Still, she received no answer from him.
Only then did Rory Linden say, "Alright, I’m hanging up. I’ll wait to hear from you. I’ll accept whatever the outcome is."
She waited a few more seconds.
Seeing that he truly had no intention of speaking, she finally hung up the phone.
Rory Linden’s eyes were red.
She had said everything she needed to say, and her stance was clear.
No matter what he chose in the end, she would accept it.
As for why he would make such a choice... she had already made herself perfectly clear.
If he was still unwilling to tell her, there was nothing she could do.
Standing in the quiet hallway, Rory Linden felt as if her heart already knew the outcome.
But she was powerless to change anything.
"Rory..."
Sherry Walsh had come downstairs at some point without her noticing.
Upon seeing Rory Linden, she said, "You scared me to death! You said you were downstairs, but you didn’t come up for so long, and your line was busy when I called. I thought something had happened to you..."
She pulled Rory Linden upstairs.
Once they were upstairs, Rory Linden said, "I’m sorry for bothering you this late."
"Oh my god, what are you talking about?" Sherry Walsh was stunned. "Don’t tell me this business with Sean Harrison has completely rattled you. What on earth is going on with you two?"
Rory Linden briefly explained the car accident.
"I couldn’t reach him at all, but then the call suddenly went through. He must have pocket-dialed me. Still, I said everything I wanted to say. He didn’t say a single word in reply, so I hung up."
Rory Linden’s eyes stung.
She truly never imagined that she and Sean Harrison would one day end up like this.
She thought they had a healthy relationship, that they would naturally get married and have children...
"This..." Sherry Walsh thought for a moment, then asked, "He’s not cheating on you, is he?"
Rory Linden shook her head.
She had considered many possibilities, but that was the one thing she hadn’t thought of for even a second.
Sean Harrison wasn’t cheating.
If he wanted to break up with her, there had to be some unavoidable reason. She just couldn’t figure out what it was.
"Well, don’t you worry. I’ll ask Lawyer Sterling for you on Monday. He’s bound to know something."
Sherry Walsh turned, went to the kitchen, and returned with a glass of warm water for Rory Linden.
"Thank you."
Rory Linden took the water and sipped it slowly, her head lowered.
Maybe it was because of what she had just said on the phone, but as she sat there, she felt surprisingly calm.
It was as if her mind, overwhelmed with sorrow, had simply shut down and refused to think anymore.
Sherry Walsh sat in the chair next to her.
Trying to comfort Rory Linden, she said bluntly, "You know, there are plenty of good men out there. You’re so amazing—if you break up with him, you can just find a new boyfriend and make him regret it!"
Rory Linden slowly shook her head.
She wasn’t the type of person who gave up on relationships easily.
Back when she was with Miles Harrison, even though he’d done so many awful things, she had waited until the very last moment to decide to break up.
But Sean Harrison was different from Miles Harrison.
She believed he had his reasons, that he was being forced to make this choice.
During their time together, Sean Harrison had hidden many things from her, but she had always felt that he must have had his reasons...
In Sherry Walsh’s eyes, Rory Linden looked completely wilted.
She stood up decisively. "Look, your hands are freezing. Go take a hot shower, then get some sleep. Even if the sky is falling, we can worry about it tomorrow."
-
The next day, both Rory Linden and Sherry Walsh had the day off.
The two of them went shopping and out to eat together.
By evening, Rory Linden wanted to treat Sherry Walsh to dinner at a restaurant, but Sherry, aware of her friend’s financial situation, suggested instead:
"Why don’t you cook for me? I haven’t had your cooking in ages. I’m craving it."
"Okay. What do you want to eat? We can go to the supermarket and buy the ingredients."
Rory Linden didn’t refuse.
She was a great cook, so of course she wouldn’t turn down the request.
"Sweet and sour spare ribs!" Sherry Walsh named her favorite dish first. "Besides that, I’m easy. Anything is fine."
The two of them went to the supermarket together to buy pork riblets and a few other ingredients before heading home.
Once they got home, Rory Linden took the groceries and went straight to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Sherry Walsh wandered around the apartment.
She was polite enough not to enter the master bedroom, but she took a look at all the other rooms.
Finally, she returned to the kitchen.
She leaned against the kitchen counter. "Rory, do you think Sean Harrison... has liked you for a long time?"
"Hmm?"
Rory Linden looked at Sherry Walsh.
"I think he probably planned to steal you away a long time ago, to make you his girlfriend, or maybe even his wife."
Sherry Walsh had a cheerful personality and usually joked around when she spoke.
But now, her tone was exceptionally serious.
"We did meet a long time ago. He..."
Rory Linden lowered her gaze to the celery she was rinsing in her hands.
The water rushed over it with a SPLASH.
She turned off the faucet and said, "I don’t know."
"Come over here."
Sherry Walsh took Rory Linden by the hand and led her to the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room.
From there, they had a direct view of Elysian Hospital.
The sun had already set, and the sky was growing dark.
On the hospital’s inpatient building, the two words "Elysian Hospital" were lit up, drawing the eye.
"Hmm? What is it?"
Rory Linden saw the hospital from this window every day, so she didn’t think much of it.
"For someone of Sean Harrison’s status, living in this complex is a serious step down. He must have chosen to live here because it has a direct view of Elysian Hospital."
Sherry Walsh looked at Rory Linden. "Is that a coincidence? I really don’t think so. Maybe when you were in school, he lived somewhere near your campus."
"..."
This was an angle Rory Linden had never considered.
"I think Sean Harrison must have liked you for a very long time, but he didn’t want to go against your will, so he only made his move after you broke up with Miles Harrison. He immediately arranged for Miles to get engaged to that girlfriend of his because he was afraid you two would get back together!"
The more Sherry Walsh spoke, the more convinced she became that this was the truth!
"He..."
"It has to be! Forget about the Harrington Family—even if it were my engagement, it would take months, maybe even a year, to plan. But Sean Harrison managed to throw such a respectable engagement party in under half a month, and he even invited so many prominent people."
"But he and Miles are, after all..."
"You don’t actually think it’s because they have such a deep uncle-nephew bond, do you? No way! It was definitely for you."
Sherry Walsh felt like a genius detective.
She had completely figured out Sean Harrison’s thinking.
Rory Linden turned and walked back to the kitchen. "Alright, that’s all in the past now." They were about to break up. What was the point of reminiscing about all this? 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Hey, hey, what I mean is that there has to be a hidden reason for all this. You need to ask him properly."
Sherry Walsh followed at Rory Linden’s side. "If you two break up in a confused mess like this, you’ll definitely regret it later."
