Love Affairs in Melbourne-Chapter 340 - 335: Going Deeper (2)
"Aunt, have you been watching too many romance dramas lately? My mom is perfectly fine. According to your plot, should I be getting pregnant next, or pull off some kind of ’act first, report later’ drama? Otherwise, the conflict in this story definitely won’t be intense enough," Yan Yan was quite frustrated. It seemed her idea of bringing Aunt "into the gang" was too naive.
"I’m not joking with you. What else do you think your dad suddenly wants to sell the well-operating factory for, if not to travel the world with your mom?" Aunt continued on the same topic.
"My dad sold the company because of my mom’s health? Her heart condition is serious?" After what Aunt said, Yan Yan began to feel like she shouldn’t take everything Aunt said as just a plot setup.
"Not at all; don’t be too worried. It’s just that your dad is overreacting a bit. The doctor said it was very minor, just avoid overexertion. You must not create any dramatic conflict, or if a minor issue becomes a major one, you’ll be too late to regret," Aunt kept talking to Yan Yan.
Yan Yan looked at Aunt, and this didn’t seem like a lie.
If Aunt had said her mother’s condition was very serious, Yan Yan definitely wouldn’t believe it.
Serious heart conditions are usually quite noticeable.
But the things Aunt just said, explanations and reassurances, those couldn’t be fake.
From childhood till now, Yan Yan had rarely made her family angry.
Yan Dabang and his wife were very democratic, and Yan Yan was the kind of child with a lot of self-control.
No matter the size of the matter, just a little discussion would lead to a satisfactory outcome for the family of three.
However, today, her parents didn’t seem to want to discuss this matter with her at all.
Yan Yan understood her parents very well.
Her parents would never talk like Uncle and decide to sever relations if she married someone.
Concerning Qi Yi, Yan Yan had prepared to argue her case and resist during dinner.
Now, Yan Yan really couldn’t just do as she pleased.
What exactly was wrong with mom’s heart? Why had dad never mentioned it?
Suddenly, Yan Yan felt a bit overwhelmed.
"Aunt, I’m going upstairs to check on my mom," Yan Yan said, and then dashed to her parents’ room.
"Brother Da, come out here for a second," Yan Yan’s skill in addressing others was endless.
For example, occasionally bestowing titles like ’brother’ or ’sister’ on her own parents.
"You’ve already walked to the door with your own legs, why can’t you come in directly?" Yan Dabang didn’t respond immediately like usual when he heard the "special title" his daughter had given him.
"I could, but I’m afraid you wouldn’t want me to say it in front of mom," Yan Yan still stood at the door, waiting for her dad to come over.
"What can’t you say?" Yan Dabang had his heart set on being mad at his darling daughter today.
The last thing Yan Yan wanted to see at this time was the unnamed war blazing in her own home.
She quickly adjusted her attitude.
"Brother Da~ Aunt just told me Sister Bing Ran has a heart problem. Why didn’t you report it to me? How do you do as her dad?" Yan Yan’s tone was slightly accusatory.
Although Yan Yan’s tone was not good, the concern in her words was quite apparent.
Yan Dabang getting angry with his daughter, he couldn’t stay mad for more than three seconds.
Especially since Yan Yan had returned to her usual mischievous and casual demeanor.
Yan Dabang stayed silent now; he feared that once he spoke, his daughter would drag him into a pitfall.
"The heart issue is old news, she was just too busy in previous years, but it’s been fine for a while now," Lu Bingran cut in to answer Yan Yan’s concern.
"Really? It’s fine?" Yan Yan looked at her mom with worried eyes for confirmation.
"It’s fine; I’ve been idle for so many years now, what could go wrong? Don’t worry," Lu Bingran answered Yan Yan with a smile.
"Well, that’s a relief. You guys keep up with the lovey-dovey stuff from when I opened the door. I’ll step out for a bit," Yan Yan said and then planned to leave her parents’ room.
"Where are you going?" Lu Bingran began to question Yan Yan before she had even fully turned around.
"Sister Bing Ran, it’s Friday. Of course, I’m going to the studio to work. Should I be seeking my own romance instead?" Yan Yan gave a helpless face in reality, and after speaking, she also made a face at her mom.
"Yan Yan, mom won’t force you to be with anyone.
Your Brother Pili is quite good, but mom won’t impose my own thoughts on you.
Your parents hope you’ll seriously consider what’s best for you.
Don’t rush to Qi Yi," Lu Bingran said after Yan Yan turned around.
"I really am going to the studio," Yan Yan didn’t know how to tell Qi Yi about her family’s attitude. So she really didn’t want to see Qi Yi right away.
Family opposition is really a headache.
Yan Yan thought, with such a headache, Qi Yi had already suffered for many years. Her sympathy for her boyfriend deepened.
Isn’t this what people call "good things take time"?
The "four parents’" reactions were sudden events for Yan Yan.
Usually, Yan Yan was best at handling sudden events.
Like the time she spontaneously danced the robot at Rockefeller Center’s sunken plaza and made a big blunder—she resolved it perfectly in minutes. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Phoning, writing announcements, arranging follow-up matters, and done smoothly.
But this little unforeseen event at home had the "crisis PR expert," Yan Yan, at a complete loss for action.
For the first time, Yan Yan faced the unanimous opposition of four elders in her family.
She felt she needed to calm down and think carefully about what to do next.
Yan Yan was preoccupied until she arrived at the studio’s door and remembered that Qi Yi hadn’t called her since he dropped her off yesterday—unlike his usual self.
Her boyfriend was the kind who would definitely look for her as soon as he woke up.
Even if he was worried she might still be sleeping, he would send her a few messages.
By that count, she and Qi Yi had been out of touch for almost 24 hours.
