Chapter 25: First hurdle

Valtar sensed about 10-12 elves enter the sense of his ranges, who were all 2nd stage awakened. But he wasn't too worried about them, even with their terrain advantage, those on that level weren't of any threat to him.

For a moment he also sensed one elf at the third stage, however, that person disappeared from his senses moments after.

So, he still had to keep an eye open to someone else attacking from outside his senses. Not thinking about it further, he clashed with the archers in a frontal assault.

The archers were quite deadly, to say the least, and were not lacking in close combat. Their teamwork was flawless and ruthless. The only goal is the death of their enemy.

Six elves came forward to engage in close combat while others remained at a distance to shoot arrows at the perfect opportunity.

Valtar recognized that an almost similar tactic was used by Elmyra's team when he fought them in the eastern tribe.

He used his fast speed and silent steps to their full prowess, as his swords clashed with short blades of his opponents.

Metal clashing against metal with enormous force, the darkness would ripple constantly by the movements of the strong combatants.

With each blow, it became obvious the human was simply far too strong for the elves to handle. After each blow, the hand of the one who takes the blow shakes, and for a moment, their hand feels numb from the overwhelming force behind each blow, they also have to take a few steps back to deal with the recoil of the attack, if not overwhelmed by sheer numbers in close combat as well long-range combat.

None of the elves could dare say that they would last more than two or three blows against the human one-on-one.

Despite that, the combatants were getting pushed back and getting injured more and more. One of them, noticing the precarious situation, signaled to the other six elves who were firing arrows from afar. Noticing the signal, the archers at the distance understood that their arrows were not having any effect, rather, it was better for everyone to go all out in close combat.

With that, the six nodded to each other and jumped into close combat. Seeing how all twelve highly skilled elves were about to engage with him in close combat, he had to finish this sooner. If this dragged on, the dark elves tribe leader will come soon and that would spell his doom.

There was another problem for Valtar, which was that he could not injure the elves too badly since he had to use them as puppets through the summoned ghosts.

So, he opted for a suitable method that could be used to kill them, but also not too badly injure their bodies so the ghost-possessed bodies could be useful later on.

As he slowly fought the slippery dark elves in close combat, he made sure to only slightly injure his opponents with each attack of his, perfectly using his superior strength in sync with his high agility, making sure to slowly accumulate their injuries as each blow of his enemies was getting weaker and weaker without them even noticing.

Suddenly there was an opening and at that moment he used the hilt of his sword to attack one of the dark elves' throat with a lot of strength. The moment the attack landed, sounds of a clear bone crack resounded as the deadly elf simply fell to the ground lifelessly. He did not even have the chance to struggle.

All the other elves became agitated, as one of their brethren fell so easily. They started attacking even more viciously, caring less and less about defending. But how could they take down Valtar with the great difference in levels?

From then, Valtar steadily continued to gain an advantage. His combat sense also improved, even if it was minuscule and unnoticeable. The constant clash of the metals almost created a weird but attractive melody somehow.

And the more he fought the more of his enemies fell one after another, every single hit that he landed with the back of his swords, a life would disappear. An elf would fall like a withered leaf, from their mouth, good amounts of blood would come out.

Now one might think it was taking time for him to take care of a bunch of 2nd stage-awakened beings while he was a pathwalker but from the moment he entered the area it had not passed more than 6 minutes and by now there were only 2 elves left among the 12 who initially attacked him.

They were panting heavily, their arms were trembling, and their eyes were filled with fury and fear. Valtar also noticed that they were looking around from time to time as if waiting for someone to rescue them. Most likely, the 3rd stage awakened he noticed barely, before the guy vanished.

Taking a deep breath just as he was about to finish the two remaining elves off, a slightly old and calm voice resounded as the old looking dark elf appeared in front of the injured elves out of nowhere, "You're suspicious, boy."

Valtar did not remark and looked at the old-looking dark elf. He wasn't too surprised, at first he was a bit worried thinking if the elf ran away to alert the tribe leader, but his Karmic intuition told him that it was unlikely.

He also made sure not to use strength above peak 3rd stage awakened to not scare away the hiding elf. If not, he would've gone to alert their leader.

So, despite showing absolutely no emotions outside, he was slightly relieved seeing the old elf appear in front of him without fear.

But what the old man said afterward made his expression turn deadly. "Go alert the tribe and everyone else, there is something very unsettling about the human, I will hold him back." The moment these words came out of the third elder, two injured elves bowed slightly and ran off in a certain direction.

Valtar still keeping the cold and deadly expression stated, "You have good senses, old man, a bit too good for my liking perhaps." He paid attention to the direction the two elves were running and mused, 'So, that's the direction their living area is in.'

For a moment he thought about using the ghosts right now on the dead bodies lying around and stopping the two elves. But disregarding that thought, he had to use that skill in the most opportune moment, reaping the greatest benefit.

So, the only choice now was to finish off this old man and kill those 2, no time to waste.

On the other hand, from the moment the third elder appeared in front of the injured elves and ordered them to notify their tribe leader, the third elder was studying the human in front of him carefully, well actually he was studying the human from the moment he entered the tribe area.

Yet he could not figure the human out in any way. His way of fighting was very unusual, taking on twelve 2nd stage dark elves simultaneously without facing any injury himself and doing so with relative ease as well.

Most unsettling was how the human could do so well inside of the true element of darkness, though there seemed to be an obvious limit to his senses functioning within the darkness. Even so, the area of his senses was larger than he would have liked.
