Chapter 23: The Turret Wasps

Amidst the dense jungle, a yellow bull puffed and ran, constantly chasing a figure in front of it.

It seemed to catch up several times when the figure in front of it suddenly picked up his pace, and hurried away in a flash.

“Moo! Moo! Moo!”

The Thunderhorn Bull was so angry that it kept hissing and squeezing its remaining strength to chase after the figure desperately.

From time to time, Bai Wushang turned back to confirm the condition of the Thunderhorn Bull, fearing that he might lose it if he wasn’t careful.

In its exhausted state, it had taken a while to chase after the blue-skirted woman, and it should be even more overwhelmed now—trying to catch up to an autonomous awakener that was running at full speed was undoubtedly a pipe dream.

Bai Wushang was the one who deliberately slowed down, baiting the Thunderhorn Bull, and letting it follow him the whole time.

Tossing and turning until now, it’s finally running out of steam?

Bai Wushang noticed that the Thunderhorn Bull’s panting had become more rapid, while its running speed decreased.

In the surroundings, subtle cross-hatch marks appeared on several tree trunks. They were special markings that he had personally carved a while ago, signifying that the area had been explored.

It could also be used to point the way and confirm directions at critical times.

Almost there… stubborn cow, stubborn cow, wasting my time for so long. You can wait to pay in the flesh…

Soon, Bai Wushang stood in front of a small tree, and tilted his head to look at it twice.

Compared to the other trees, this one was thin but a little more colorful, with bright green branches and leaves that breathed life.

Turning around and waiting a little while, and seeing the Thunderhorn Bull approaching, Bai Wushang took out the two stones he had just picked up, and threw them forcefully.

Peng! Peng!

The Thunderhorn Bull grunted twice in pain.

Its skin was so thick that the stones alone couldn’t break its defenses, but with the addition of Bai Wushang’s power, the intense pain could not be avoided.

“Moo!”

Feeling constantly provoked, the Thunderhorn Bull accelerated a little, enraged, and slammed straight into Bai Wushang with a determined spirit.

“Excellent, easy to anger and with a low IQ, so easy to bait…” Bai Wushang muttered as he quickly dodged.

With a boom, the Thunderhorn Bull once again brushed against Bai Wushang, and its completely uncontrollable body broke directly into the small tree behind him.

Without hesitation, Bai Wushang dashed away, quickly running away from the area. 𝐟𝓇ℯ𝐞𝚠𝚎𝒃𝑛𝒐ѵe𝚕.co𝚖

A spherical object slightly larger than a basketball fell to the ground in pieces.

Weng, weng, weng…

A large swarm of insects the size of a baby’s fist burst out of the shattered spherical object, roaming the sky in a dense mass, and firmly surrounding the Thunderhorn Bull.

The Thunderhorn Bull had just finished crashing into the tree, and was still a little dizzy from the rush.

When it looked back, it found the human male’s figure had disappeared.

Surrounding it was a swarm of large and deafening flying insects.

They were black and covered in brownish-red fleece, and pairs of darkly veined translucent wings flapped rapidly, making a buzzing noise.

Most prominent were their abdomens, with a long, thick, tubular tail vessel, hideous in its coldness and all aimed at the Thunderhorn Bull at the moment.

“Moo…”

The Thunderhorn Bull gave a token warning and finally got a little scared, kicking the ground restlessly with all four hooves.

Pu, pu, pu, pu, pu!!!

The swarm fired a round of stings in unison, short sharp stingers in the shape of beans sticking all over the Thunderhorn Bull’s body, followed by a series of muffled explosions.

The Thunderhorn Bull was blown to pieces in just an instant, screaming madly and miserably as it tried to flee.

200-300 meters away, Bai Wushang had coated his body with some kind of herbs to cover his smell while peeking through the gap in the leaves to watch the battlefield.

“Turret Wasps, early youth stage, swarm-type transcendent creatures, its stinger is extremely penetrating, although non-poisonous, it carries an explosive effect, just like a cannonball… Even a peak stage youth transcendent creature that is good at defense wouldn’t dare to mess with such a large swarm of Turret Wasps…”

Bai Wushang revealed a smile. “Stubborn little cow, stubborn little cow, this round of fire will take at least half of your little life… Exhaustion plus serious injuries, don’t try to run and be good and stay here!”

The swarm that had lost its nest naturally did not let the culprit off easily, and after a slight delay, another round was fired in unison.

Amidst the splattering of blood and flesh, the Thunderhorn Bull tumbled to the ground, not even having the strength to struggle, its breath growing weaker and weaker until it disappeared completely.

The Turret Wasps buzzed around the corpse of the Thunderhorn Bull and, seemingly unrelieved of its anger, launched the third round of fire…

20 minutes later, seeing the Turret Wasps carrying all the broken hives away, Bai Wushang dared to venture out and return to the position he was just at.

The air was thick with the smell of blood.

This stupid thing has thick skin. It’s too hard to kill just by myself. It’s quicker to swarm it with the help of Turret Wasps.

Bai Wushang examined the bloody corpse of the Thunderhorn Bull. Not a single piece of its fur was intact from head to tail at this point, and many places even showed bones.

It’s just a bit of a shame that 18 gourmet cells were wasted…

Bai Wushang showed some regret. This Thunderhorn Bull was ultimately killed by the Turret Wasps, not counting the proceeds of his hunt, so he didn’t absorb the gourmet cells.

Pulling out his dagger, Bai Wushang squatted down, and began to dissect the corpse of the Thunderhorn Bull.

Breaking down the corpses of transcendent creatures for valuable loot was likewise a discipline that needed to be focused on as a master.

Bai Wushang had only learned the basics in the past, and had limited himself to paper, never practicing with his own hands.

Now it was the first attempt, so naturally he was a bit clumsy.

It was good that the Thunderhorn Bull was just an ordinary Demon Beast Realm, Walking Beast type transcendent creature. Except for its rarer attributes, its bodily structure wasn’t complicated.

This bull’s eye, hide, hip, and tail were all blown up by the Turret Wasps and rotted, and lost their value.

What is left that can be collected is mainly this pair of thunderhorns, followed by the tongue of the cow, and finally the well-preserved organs… Well, there is still another 20 pounds of hind leg meat that can be taken, so I can taste how the Thunderhorn Bull tastes at night…

After working on it for a while, Bai Wushang stood up, patted the slightly bulging dimensional backpack with satisfaction, and turned to leave.

***

At night, inside some unadorned stone cave.

A campfire was blazing, and a faint smoky aroma of roasted meat wafted in puffs of wind.

Bai Wushang sat on one side, concentrating on weaving the old vine in his hand.

He was making a mousetrap.

Wire grass, sheep’s fat flower, natural grass juice, Silver-Winged Bird’s feather, 10-year-old vine… With these things together, the cage will certainly be tough enough. The rat-type transcendent creatures in the mid-stage youth form will find it difficult to break free… Adding the cheese flower, which is something tempting to mice, the probability of capturing it greatly increases…

During the daytime hours, apart from pitting and killing the Thunderhorn Bull, Bai Wushang did not rashly provoke other transcendent creatures, and instead explored the environment of the trial grounds while gathering melons and fruits and medicinal herbs, harvesting many materials.

Now that we’re just short of a full rat carcass in the mid-stage youth, and all the other supporting ingredients have been found, I’m going to finish the recipe Mouse of Temptation as soon as possible!

Bai Wushang’s thought process was clear. He would hunt many snake creatures with the help of the Mouse of Temptation, harvesting gourmet cells while collecting snake venom to boost his combat power. When he met his preferred pet, the probability of a successful contract would naturally increase.
