Chapter 59: A Parasite, a Heroine and a Priest on the Hilltop. (4)

Nora jumped, cutting through the air at great speed as she fell toward the ocean of magma that had formed beneath her feet.

The girl concentrated her orgone in her legs, as she flexed them slightly.

When her feet touched the lava ground, Nora didn’t burn.

Her body had already evolved to transcend heat, fire or magma wouldn’t harm her, at least for now.

When the girl touched the ground, she quickly flexed her legs, storing all the force of the impact by doing so.

Her legs didn’t explode, the orgone in them stored that force to then expel it outward, like a shockwave.

The shockwave crashed against the surrounding magma, pushing it and cooling it, turning it to rock again.

As soon as she landed, Nora looked at Alioth.

The fall had been hard and even if she had done everything possible to prevent that force from affecting the boy, she still wasn’t sure he was okay.

Nora examined him carefully, it wasn’t just because of the fall, she had felt fear when she saw how Alioth was almost reached by the light attacks.

She almost lost him, that feeling of anguish was very painful.

Nora normally felt bad about any death, not being able to save someone was painful for her, who had the ideals of a hero.

However, the anguish she felt when she saw Alioth in danger was different.

Very similar to what she would feel for one of her siblings or her mother.

Practically desperation.

Though that was normal, after all Nora and Alioth were friends.

If it weren’t for him, she surely would have died without being a true heroine.

Losing him would be too painful.

However, that desperation was also a motivator.

Because her desire was to protect someone, she evolved and gained enough power and speed to reach the boy and defend him.

However, she was there for another reason besides that.

Why hadn’t Alioth fought?

Why hadn’t he tried to move or save himself?

There were two options.

The first was related to Alioth’s own weakness.

She remembered hitting him lightly the first time they met, but he came out seriously injured from that encounter.

At first she didn’t give it much thought but then realized it was normal.

He barely had ka, so he didn’t have orgone either.

That meant physically Alioth was very weak.

But that made him even more incredible.

Even knowing how weak he was, he had gone to save her, risking his life for her.

However, it also meant that if he was aware of it, he also knew it wasn’t worth trying to defend himself from those beams.

He had accepted his death.

However, the other possibility was what kept her most worried.

That Alioth hadn’t done anything because he trusted her.

If Alioth was capable of leaving his life in her hands, that became an enormous responsibility for Nora.

She didn’t want to betray that trust, that’s why she was so worried about him.

"Are you okay, Alu?" Nora asked with genuine concern for the boy, pleading inside that it was so.

However, for some reason, when Alioth responded affirmatively, great embarrassment took hold of her.

Why was she worried about him?

Or at least, why was she so worried?

Nora, who wasn’t usually an embarrassed person, abruptly dropped Alioth on the ground trying to mask that embarrassment.

Adopting a "professional" composure to be able to forget about those thoughts.

But then, her instinct activated.

All those thoughts vanished, replaced by a great survival instinct.

The girl felt a presence, but it was already too late. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"Someone’s approa—"

She couldn’t continue, suddenly, a silhouette was in front of her, so fast she hadn’t even been able to react.

The girl reacted quickly, raising the sword to try to block the imminent attack.

But it was too late, or rather, the movement was useless.

The priest’s fist pierced through Lævateinn, shattering it to pieces, while his blow continued and impacted her cheek.

Nora’s orgone was pierced with shocking ease.

She had never felt such a hard and heavy blow, that force was too great.

The girl was sent flying at great speed to the side, embedding herself in the ground, splashing magma in the process.

Alioth froze, when had he arrived?

Had he defeated Nora with a single blow?

Alioth was incredulous, but remembering he had survived [Ifmet]’s most powerful attack, he recalled the power difference between them.

Then, the priest clapped dryly, a single clap that seemed to pause time.

"Bravo! I must congratulate you," the man commented with a smile, that horrible and unnatural smile that Alioth hated so much. "You’ve held out quite well, and shown power that exceeds expectations but, it’s still not enough."

The priest explained, as he took a step forward.

Alioth didn’t hesitate, he couldn’t let that man get any closer, even if he had to resort to desperate measures.

His two fingers stretched toward the priest.

"Bui— ARRRRRRG!"

Alioth was about to recite his "spell," but before he could pronounce the name of the legend he wanted to invoke, his fingers were cut off.

The boy doubled over in pain as he turned, clutching the wound.

He had been interrupted too easily.

"Hey hey, did that witch not educate you well? Though it doesn’t surprise me it was so, at least you should know it’s bad manners to interrupt others while they’re speaking," the man complained with indignation, while Alioth kept crying in pain.

The priest raised an eyebrow as he looked at Alioth with contempt.

"How much of a crybaby you are, it’s a scratch, stop crying, what are you, a little girl?" the man mocked as he made a gesture with his hand.

Upon doing so, Alioth felt his fingers regenerate, something that left him confused.

The pain gradually subsided until disappearing completely, but Alioth felt how that event kept weighing on his mind.

His energy seemed to have been sucked away.

"Better, baby? As always, behaving like a baby, that’s why you only bring problems to those around you," the man affirmed calmly.

Alioth raised his gaze confused.

What was that priest referring to?

Seeing that look, the priest seemed to intuit Alioth’s confusion, so he continued his speech.

"Don’t you really know? Let’s take as an example your mother, the first person whose life you messed up," the man began.

Alioth didn’t fully understand at first.

His impulse was to think he was referring to his mother on Earth, but it was impossible for the priest to know about her.

That’s when a scream resonated in his mind.

A memory from the past, of how his mother begged to see him.

Alioth felt himself beginning to get angry, the boy gritted his teeth upon understanding those words.

The priest was blaming him for that, when it was the priest himself who had thrown him out of his house.

"Your poor mother, she expected to have a normal child, not an aberration like you. Do you know what she suffered having to get rid of her only son? She fell into such a deep depression that she ended up committing suicide! Just because her selfish son decided to be born defective," the priest reproached, looking at Alioth as if he were the most disgusting thing he had ever seen.

Alioth felt a pang in his chest.

Had his biological mother in that world died?

Even without having seen her, it was a hard blow to know it.

His blood began to boil, his jaw was increasingly clenched and his fists closed with more and more force.

How dare he say it was his fault, when the real culprit was the priest?

Alioth felt anger ignite in his chest.

But the priest hadn’t finished.

"And then! Your adoptive mother, that poor witch," the man said with false sadness, hearing those words Alioth froze. "You became a burden for such a noble person and you can still sleep at night? How heartless, with the pro—"

But before continuing, Alioth exploded.

"Don’t you dare talk about my teacher! You know nothing about her," the boy roared aggressively.

How dare that man speak like that about his teacher?

Though at the same time the boy was confused.

How did he know her?

Or rather, how did he know her?

Alioth was about to respond, but suddenly felt a strong pressure on his chest.

The priest’s gaze had stuck on him with pure hatred.

"What did I tell you about interrupting?" the old man asked dryly, Alioth fell silent instantly, his entire body paralyzed by fear. "Pathetic, you’re pathetic."

The man affirmed with contempt as he looked at Nora.

"Poor thing, a Vanir with so much potential condemned for wanting to protect an inferior being, aren’t you ashamed?" the man asked with a cold and firm tone.

Alioth couldn’t believe that man’s audacity.

Was he really going to blame him for that?

Alioth felt his contempt for the priest only grew, but at the same time knew he couldn’t do anything.

A reality that turned his stomach.

"That’s how you are, right, you let that poor spirit sacrifice itself for you, and now you let a brat do the same, you really have no scruples," the man said with contempt, as he spat.

Hearing about Abzu, Alioth simply couldn’t stay silent.

"That’s not tru—"

"Silence!" the man roared. "Stop denying reality... you’re a parasite, you were born a parasite and you’ll die as a parasite. Accept it."

The sky began to darken, as rain began to fall.

Alioth fell to his knees.

That defeat couldn’t be more hopeless.
