Chapter 52: Aizel’s Decision.

Aizel didn’t want to suffer again like that time.

Like the day his mother died.

However, there was another reason why he was so radical with the idea that only his family mattered.

He also didn’t want to see his brother suffer.

Eirian had been the most affected by his mother’s death.

In fact, his mother knew he would suffer, that’s why she entrusted him with the mission of being strong to Eirian, and the mission of protecting Eirian to Aizel.

The boy had taken this idea very seriously, or at least that’s what he believed.

Aizel wanted his brother to be strong, that’s why he let Emiris be hard on him.

However, analyzing it with perspective, Aizel realized he had been an idiot.

He admired his father, even if he was cold, Aizel knew how badly the family treated him, and he also knew Emiris’s conviction to become stronger.

However, now the young man realized his mistake.

He should have also taken care of his father, Emiris had deteriorated, he had changed.

He was no longer the same.

While Emiris had always been cold, he didn’t really despise his wife.

But when she passed away, Emiris lost what remained of his humanity.

Aizel had seen him meeting with people but didn’t act, hiding behind the fact that Emiris knew more than him to avoid confronting him.

Deep down Aizel knew his father was acting wrong, not because he cared about the xenos, but because he knew those experiments were dangerous.

However, it took his brother confronting him and receiving a beating from his father to come to his senses.

In that sense, it could be said that Eirian was braver than Aizel.

"Brother," Aizel said with a sigh, as he leaned forward with difficulty.

They had been moved away from the combat zone, but the sound of battle reached there.

Eirian turned quickly upon seeing that his brother had recovered.

"Brother! Are you okay?" the boy said, almost in tears as he examined Aizel.

Aizel couldn’t help but smile.

"Yes, I’m fine, don’t worry," the boy affirmed as he stood up with difficulty.

Eirian lowered his gaze, embarrassed by what he had done.

"I’m sorry, because of me... everything was ruined," Eirian said sadly.

Aizel shook his head.

"No, you didn’t ruin anything... or well, you didn’t ruin anything bad," the boy responded. "You were really right, you were very brave to say it."

Eirian looked at Aizel confused.

Had he really done right?

It was hard to believe, Eirian always thought Aizel agreed with his father’s actions, but now he was congratulating him for ruining those plans.

In the end, Nora had been right, the path of good is always correct.

For the first time, Eirian felt proud of the decisions he had made.

His feelings had always been correct, and knowing it was comforting.

Then, Aizel looked at the battle site, his expression was hard to decipher.

"I suppose we’ve reached a point of no return," Aizel said to himself.

Eirian tilted his head confused, not understanding what his brother meant.

However, something inside him told him it wasn’t anything good.

Aizel knew it, Emiris had died, he was no longer his father, he was a madman who only sought revenge.

Using his power and influence to bribe the templars so they would stay silent about the demons’ disappearances was one thing.

But murdering the templars was something very different.

Especially inspectors.

That was sending a direct war threat to the holy ministry.

No matter how powerful his family was, those sanctions wouldn’t go unpunished.

But Aizel knew very well what would happen if that came to light.

His "family" would call them traitors, not only Emiris but also Aizel and Eirian.

They would be discarded, and sacrificed to preserve the family’s honor.

That was a death sentence. At least for him and his brother.

Even if Emiris was detained, they would most likely be seen as accomplices and unjustly accused.

There was no way they could get out of that mess, or well, there really was one.

Emiris was no longer the same, he had gone too far.

Aizel had to accept it, due to his cowardice, his father had died.

He hadn’t been able to defend his family.

However, if he continued without acting, Eirian, who had found enough courage to confront his father, would also be punished.

The only solution was to take drastic actions.

Decisive actions.

End everything at the root.

It was a harsh truth, but true.

The only way to show their innocence was by ending the core of everything.

The only way to survive was by assassinating Emiris, even if it was painful.

"Eirian, could you leave me alone for a moment," the boy asked as he summoned his Devastra in his hand.

His spear similar to burnt ebony pulsed an intense scarlet light.

Eirian looked at his brother, while it was hard to admit, deep down, he knew what Aizel wanted to do.

However, Eirian couldn’t allow it.

He knew that Aizel always worried about his family, however, who worried about him?

Aizel didn’t cry when his mother cried, he took care of consoling Eirian.

Aizel always served as support, but was never supported.

His burden was enormous, and now, would he also have to carry the guilt of killing his father?

In Eirian’s eyes it wasn’t fair.

"No, I’ll take care of it," the boy then intervened, with a serious look. "I have to finish what I started."

It was a bitter truth, but true.

He had caused all this.

He had decided to choose the path of good.

Therefore, he couldn’t leave the job half done either.

Aizel hesitated for a moment, but then, his eyes settled on Eirian.

The boy’s gaze was firm, burning with determination.

He was no longer the crybaby brat from before.

Eirian had become a man.

"Alright," Aizel surrendered, as he handed his spear to his younger brother. "But try to aim well."

Eirian nodded with determination, as his Devastra glowed with crimson colors on his skin.

"Agneyastra: atmosphere-incinerating bow," the boy said firmly, as crimson flames began to gather in his hand.

In an instant, a bow manifested in his hand.

It was time to end everything.
