Chapter 60: Chapter 60 Portal Formation

(In the palace)

The sky was just starting to lighten when Kaelith stepped out of his room. The manor was quiet, the guards stood at their usual posts, and few of the servants walked to and fro around the open space.

Kaelith folded his hands behind his back. Today would be the first day that he would start training with Scarlet. "Troublesome." He clicked his tongue in annoyance.

Part of him wondered why he was even doing all of this. ’It is better to have some little minions.’

When he got to the entrance gate. Scarlet was already waiting by the gate, adjusting the edge of his white cloak. The moment his eyes landed on Kaelith, he ran towards him. "Brother."

Kaelith spared him a glance before walking past him.

A little taken aback by his reaction, Scarlet awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "I guess there was not much progress in our bonding." He muttered under his breath.

Following Kaelith’s footsteps, they both entered a black carriage with a golden intricate design.

The ride to Gabriel’s manor was a quiet one. Scarlet was lost in his thoughts, he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous and excited to actually train. He had followed Kaelith’s step of reading books... because he didn’t want to fall short in comparison to him in that aspect. And didn’t want to be seen as useless.

And now finally he was going to train... to be able to fight.

Scarlet stared out of the window, and most of the time, he tapped his fingers on his knees.

Meanwhile, Kaelith sat with his back straight, his gaze unreadable.

’The land of skulls... why do you have to be next to the northern mountains? Is this how the universe plans to restrain me? This only means that they are dragon eggs on the mountain... I won’t miss this chance. Imagine the power that comes from having a dragon blood bank...’

"EEYYY"

The sound of the horse coming to a stop cut off his trail of thoughts. A servant opened the door and bowed. Gabriel was already waiting on them, his hands behind his back.

"You’re on time," he bowed to them slightly.

Kaelith stepped down first, followed by Scarlet.

Gabriel turned and led them toward the east wing of the manor. They passed the main garden and a stone courtyard, heading toward a tall wall covered in vines. Behind it was a narrow gate that needed Gabriel’s key to unlock.

The moment the gate opened, Kaelith felt a shift in the air. The mana here was thicker like it had been concentrated in this space for years. It was nothing like the open training yard.

Gabriel stepped through and motioned for them to follow.

The training ground was a wide clearing surrounded by stone pillars. The ground was paved with smooth tiles, some of them cracked from years of impact. There were targets, sparring dummies, a few relics placed on the wooden racks, and old tools used to help with magical focus.

Gabriel stopped at the center. "This is where I train those I consider worth the effort."

Scarlet looked around, clearly impressed. Kaelith said nothing, except the fact that his body was going to benefit from the Mana concentration... he didn’t look impressed.

Gabriel turned to Kaelith. "We will start with you. Today I’ll teach you how to create a portal formation."

’How convenient, exactly what I needed.’ Kaelith walked towards the bench beside the wall and placed his cloak on the bench, before returning back to Gabriel’s side.

Scarlet sat down, watching them with interest.

Gabriel raised a hand, and a blue rune shimmered in the air between them before fading.

Kaelith tilted his head. "I’ve opened portals before."

"Show me." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Kaelith inhaled, his eyes fixated on the space ahead of him. He raised his hand, and the space sliced open, a pale portal opened with a lot of energy crackling within its vortex. Then he retracted his hand to his side.

Distaste laced in his tongue. ’Who would have thought I would ever make a portal as sloppy as this? Annoying. Even my experience from hundreds of years is useless.’

"That is not how you open a portal," Gabriel shook his head. "You opened it like you were forcing open a locked door. That method leaves a trace behind. Anyone skilled can track you. And the portal isn’t stable, it can collapse mid-transport."

Kaelith didn’t argue. He stepped backward. "Then show me."

His jaws clenched, his hands tightened beside him. He never liked asking for help, but now he had no choice.

Gabriel nodded and extended his hand. "First, you gather the mana into a point. Don’t spread it yet. Then, focus on control, not power."

A small glow formed on Gabriel’s palm. He closed his fingers slowly, condensing the light until it turned into a sharp thread of blue mana. Then he drew it outward, like opening a seam in the air.

A thin line appeared, barely visible. Then it began to widen, a neat oval portal appeared in the space before them. The center shimmered, showing the edge of the garden outside the manor.

"You guide the mana into a fixed shape," Gabriel said. "Portals are not about force. They’re about precision, and you need to be able to visualize the place you want it to take you to."

Kaelith nodded slowly. "Understood."

Gabriel stepped back. "Now your turn."

Kaelith raised his hand. He felt the pull of his core, the old rhythm of magic returning. He gathered the Mana slowly, and carefully. It resisted at first, spreading out of his control. He inhaled, then he began to redirect mana back to the center of his hand.

He shaped the energy into a thread, then sliced it through the air.

The rift formed but it didn’t open fully. Gabriel raised a brow.

"Not bad, but you are too tense. Relax your control."

Kaelith tried again. This time, the thread held. The portal opened, with rough edges but it was stable this time.

Scarlet blinked at it. "So cool."

Kaelith ignored him, focusing on how to control the mana and visualising where he wanted the portal to connect to.

Gabriel waved his hand, dispelling the portal. "We’ll work on smoothing the edges tomorrow. But try to gain more control over your mana, that will be your lesson for today."

He turned to Scarlet, leaving Kaelith to control his mana.
