Chapter 49: Chapter 45: The Forest Wolf’s Promotion Path, Gale Wolf, Desert Giant Wolf

[Consume twenty Dinars. Your soldier "Forest Wolf" will now be promoted!]

[Please select the promotion path for the "Forest Wolf"!]

[Gale Wolf (Zero-star Green): Awakens the bloodline of an Ancient Magical Beast that mastered Wind Magic. Becomes a Gale Wolf, capable of casting the "Wind Blade" spell to deal single-target ranged Magic Damage to enemies. It can also cast the "Wind’s Blessing" spell to slightly increase its own or an ally’s movement speed.]

[Desert Giant Wolf (Zero-star Blue): Awakens a unique Ancient Magical Beast bloodline. Becomes a Desert Giant Wolf. While it lacks the Talent for Magic, it possesses an enormous body and tenacious Life Force. It has mastered the special Secret Technique "Giant Wave." By coordinating with other Desert Giant Wolves, it can unleash an unstoppable charge, sending all enemies in its path flying and displaying the tyrannical might of a savage beast.]

Huh?

’A dual promotion option?’

’That’s awesome.’

Qin Feng gave the options a quick look.

The Gale Wolf was similar in role to the Awakened Fire Fox. Both were "Demon Beast Mages" that combined melee damage, ranged Magic Damage, and decent tankiness.

The difference between them in terms of physical damage and durability wasn’t significant.

The distinction was that the Gale Wolf had a crushing advantage in speed. It could also function as a Support Soldier Type, applying a movement speed buff to other Elite Soldier Types.

The Fire Fox’s Magic Damage output, however, was much stronger than the Gale Wolf’s. Not only could it easily one-shot high-HP enemies that the Gale Wolf couldn’t handle...

...but the explosion from its Fireball Technique also dealt small-scale AOE damage, inflicting 70% Fire Element damage to other enemies around the target.

Furthermore, an enemy hit by the Fireball Technique would enter a "burning" state of continuous damage over time unless they had a Purification Class skill.

As for the Desert Giant Wolf...

’Isn’t this just a Demon Beast version of the Valandia Banner Knight?’

Giant Wave!

Lance Charge!

’A medieval iron torrent!’

Although the Desert Giant Wolf’s movement speed was less than the Gale Wolf’s, its other Attributes completely crushed the Gale Wolf’s. It was also faster than the original Forest Wolf, fully deserving its Zero-star (Blue) Power Assessment.

Just imagine.

If they had been sent to fight the hundred-plus Ratman Warriors from the Withered Leaf Tribe...

...the first "Giant Wave" charge would have likely shattered the enemy’s morale. The battle wouldn’t have needed to drag on for so long before it was finally over.

"Hss..."

’So what’s the call?’

’Which Demon Beast should I promote them to?’

After a moment of thought, Qin Feng decided to promote this entire batch of Forest Wolves into Desert Giant Wolves first. He would see later if he needed to add a few Gale Wolves to the mix. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

After all, as the first Mage units in his army, the Fire Foxes already provided powerful ranged suppression. He didn’t need another group of Gale Wolves to supplement their damage.

And as for the Gale Wolf’s "Wind’s Blessing" skill, he had the much more overpowered Lord Skills, "Boiling," to replace it.

They didn’t really have a unique niche where they excelled.

Looking at the Desert Giant Wolf, however...

It possessed the powerful open-field suppression ability of a Heavy Cavalry charge, capable of not only tearing through enemy defensive formations with ease but also effectively crushing the morale of enemy infantry.

Even without a wide-open plain for them to charge...

...they could rely on their powerful physique, rated at Zero-star (Blue), to easily rip out enemies’ throats in close-quarters combat or simply crush them underfoot.

This was a unique advantage as a Soldier Type that neither the Awakened Fire Fox nor the Gale Wolf could match.

Only the Violent Bear Boss could compare.

But it lacked their speed.

...

[Promotion Successful!]

[You have obtained the new soldier "Desert Giant Wolf."]

...

[Soldier Name: Desert Giant Wolf]

[Life Value: 325/325]

[Mastered Skills: Giant Wave (Initiate a group charge. The faster your current movement speed and the more allied Desert Giant Wolves have gathered, the more terrifying the charge damage will be.)]

[Assessment of Normal State Power: Zero-star (Blue)]

[Power Assessment under the influence of King of War: Zero-star (Purple)]

[Description: Influenced by a mysterious power, the sealed Ancient Magical Beast bloodline within this Forest Wolf is gradually awakening. It has now obtained a portion of its ancestors’ power and can, like an iron torrent, tear apart any enemy who dares stand in the way of the Desert Giant Wolf pack.]

’Nice!’

’So Zero-star (Blue) wasn’t even their limit!’

’Zero-star (Purple) is their final destination!’

Although they still fell short of the Violent Bear Boss’s Four-dimensional Attributes and Attack, Defense, and Life Values, and were no match for it in a direct confrontation...

...at least they could now exchange a couple of blows with the Violent Bear. They wouldn’t just be dealing single-digit damage, not even qualifying as frontline cannon fodder.

’Looking at it this way...’

’The Violent Bear Boss’s combat power is just ridiculous!’

’Even though it’s also Zero-star (Purple), it’s a super monster on the verge of stepping into Zero-star (Gold). It also has several overpowered Talents that aren’t even factored into its power rating, enough to suppress regular Demon Beasts that have already reached the Zero-star (Gold) level.’

’Hmm...’

’My own combat power is pretty ridiculous, too.’

’Of all the enemies I’ve seen so far, aside from the Violent Bear Boss and now these Desert Giant Wolves, I can basically one-shot any of them with an arrow.’

’If I use the Triple Shot Skills, I can one-shot the Desert Giant Wolves, too.’

’If I use my ultimate, Kunos’ Arrow, I’d deal a ton of overkill damage to a Desert Giant Wolf, but I still couldn’t take down the Violent Bear Boss in one hit.’

’Its "Fixed Damage Reduction" Talent is just too insane.’

’Under Normal State conditions, I estimate that only a Zero-star (Red) level creature would have the ability to one-shot the Violent Bear Boss.’

’But if I could reach the Zero-star (Gold) level, with the boost from my crazy, cheat-like Talents, I should also be able to one-shot the Violent Bear Boss.’

’Unfortunately...’

’...my survivability is just too poor.’

’After killing so many enemies, I’ve only barely managed to raise my Life Value to 200.’

’My Double Resistance Defense is also clearly inferior to Demon Beasts like the Desert Giant Wolf and the Violent Bear Boss. If they so much as tapped me, I’d basically be critically injured and on the brink of death.’

’Sigh.’

’I still have to find a way to improve my survivability.’

’Otherwise, if I run into a truly skilled enemy who knows about my King of War’s Imperial Expedition trait, they could just send their strongest elite soldiers straight for me.’

’I could suddenly get wiped out...’

Just as he was thinking this, the Little Owl that Qin Feng had sent out for Reconnaissance suddenly swooped down from the sky, hooting to alert him that another group of enemies had appeared near the territory.

He followed the Little Owl’s gaze and saw that the newcomers were just a group of Zero-star (Green) archers and Spearmen, with a Zero-star (Blue) level sniper archer mixed into their ranks. Each of them was carrying the carcass of at least one wild animal.

It was obvious.

This was the Divine Chosen Army that Zhao Chuan had sent out to hunt early in the morning.

"Hm?"

’Has the army been recalled?’
