WHOOSH!

A massive fireball came flying toward the soldiers immediately after Rowan finished his speech with them. It was nighttime, and its sudden arrival easily alerted everyone, including Black Drifter.

Black Drifter acted right away, moving away from its current location and darting straight toward the massive fireball.

[ Your pet activated SHIELD ]

As Black Drifter darted toward it, he activated his defensive spell, causing a powerful wind magic shield to appear around his body.

BOOM!

A large, explosive sound vibrated across the area as Black Drifter collided with the fireball, taking the damage instead of the soldiers at whom it was targeted.

Its wind magic shield absorbed the impact of the fireball and dispersed it completely.

Collective gasps and sighs of relief were released following the heroic action of Black Drifter.

If Black Drifter hadnā€™t reacted, at least twenty of them would have died following the impact of the fireball.

Unfortunately, time was not on their side to show their appreciation to the divine beast for saving them, as the monsters began pouring out of the forest in large numbers.

SHRIEK!

A loud shriek sounded from the air, drawing attention to a huge inferno eagle ā€” it had almost the same appearance as a natural eagle, but was more than twenty times larger and its eyes were glowing crimson, resonating with its flame attribute.

It was the same monster that had shot the massive fireball at them earlier.

Following the inferno eagleā€™s appearance, hundreds of goblins, Ratax, wolf-type monsters as well as some serpent-type monsters raged out of the forest.

Their numbers and pace were so chaotic that the trees along their path fell, creating a bigger space for chaos to dominate.

"Charge!!"

Rowan roared.

"YEAHHHHHHHH!"

The soldiers reacted with a loud, collective chant and charged toward the monsters.

Blaze, who was at the back of the group, sprinted to the front, charging specifically toward the wolf-type monsters.

Black Drifter did not stand back either and darted toward the inferno eagle.

ā€™How could I have taken down the inferno eagle without Black Drifter?ā€™ Rowan could not help but wonder amid the chaos.

Somehow, he felt that his luck was pretty good.

He had never faced any bird-type monsters before.

Only after summoning Black Drifter did he face his first hordes of bird-type monsters, and it was more than a coincidence.

His archers would have helped against a flying monster, but could they have been able to take care of an E-rank Inferno eagle? Definitely not.

While Rowan wanted to spend more time reasoning about this, he couldnā€™t; he opened his inventory and equipped two of his best swords before charging.

The soldiers and the monsters had already clashed, swords were being swung and arrows were being shot.

Winston and Roland fought close to each other.

They both stood side by side in the midst of a group of Ratax and goblins. Winston faced one part while Roland took care of the other, and they watched out for each other interchangeably, creating a unique harmony that guided their attacks.

Bryce, with his new gauntlet equipped, went on a bloody rampage amidst the Ratax and goblins.

He went around smashing head after head.

Thanks to the gauntlet, he wasnā€™t afraid of injuring his hands while punching indiscriminately.

"Lord Rowan, thank you for the amazing piece!" he roared amidst the bloody battle.

"I wish I could get a gauntlet like you, Captain Bryce!"

One member of the martial arts group fighting closely with Bryce said this while tossing the body of a headless goblin toward a Ratax that was crawling speedily toward him.

"If you stand out on the battlefield and contribute more, Lord Rowan would definitely make one for you."

Bryce responded before leaping into the air, arriving beside the same soldier.

Two goblins wielding long sticks with sharp tips were approaching the soldier sneakily while his focus remained fixed on the Ratax crawling toward him.

"Die, you sneaky bastards!" Bryce cussed out loud as he sent a flying kick toward their heads. The head of the closest goblin to the impact exploded while the other was sent flying.

"Watch your back more, kiddo!" Bryce said before moving toward another group of monsters.

Not too far away, Captain Bruce and Josh could be seen battling a battalion of rageful serpents.

The serpents were a little more difficult to go up against, especially at these dark hours. Most of them, particularly the Dark-scale pythons, could move undetected in the dark.

"Ahh! NOOO!"

Not so far away from the two captains, a soldierā€™s head was bitten off by a giant Dark-scale python.

His colleagues beside him cried out his name and charged at the giant serpent monster to avenge his death. Two of them were knocked back toward the trees as the serpent attacked with its tail.

Bruce clutched his sword and immediately went to help his men ā€” he sprinted and used the corpse of several nearby goblins to leap up, reaching the head area of the giant serpent.

He stabbed his blade down.

Sadly, he missed the vital part of its head and only stabbed at a spot close to it.

The serpent hissed angrily and twisted its body, planning to constrict and eat Bruce.

"Shit!" Bruce struggled to drag his sword out.

"Let go of your sword and move away, Bruce!"

A familiar voice called out to him.

Bruce did not question the voice and immediately did as he was told; he let go of his sword and landed on the ground, pushing his body as far away as he could from the raging serpent that still hadnā€™t noticed his absence.

PHEW! PHEW!!

Two arrows flew out from an unknown direction, stabbing the serpent at different vital points. It bled for a short while and then collapsed to its death.

Nolan arrived on the scene the very second it fell.

Bruce stood up and went to grab his sword as two goblins were chasing closely beside him with sharp weapons.

Nolan spotted this and shot at the goblins, killing them.

"Thanks for the assistance, man!" Bruce thanked Nolan.

Nolan nodded and ran away to assist the others.

Bruce retrieved his sword and continued his battle.

The battlefield was bloody and chaotic, but compared to seven days ago, the Winterseed soldiersā€™ attack force had grown exponentially.
