Living Only For Myself: Make Those Who Hate Me Regret It-Chapter 195: "...The Whole School Knows?
Zhou Mochen was countless times more possessive than Xi Zirong.
’If I don’t remind him to tone down this domineering attribute, it won’t be long before I find it unbearable to be with him, no matter how much I want to make it up to him or how much I like him.’
’It can’t be helped. Maybe it’s because of my experiences in my past life, but I really can’t stand being controlled all the time.’
Fortunately, Zhou Mochen probably understood Xu Su’s temper better than she did herself.
When he heard her words, not only was he not angry, he actually stared at her for a moment before letting out a soft laugh.
"You’ve really matured. You even know to worry about the future of our relationship."
Kissing the top of her head, Zhou Mochen sounded rather pleased. "It’s enough for me that you’re taking our relationship seriously. Susu, I promise you, as long as you keep your distance from other men, I’ll go along with whatever else you want."
As if remembering something, Xu Su felt the hand on her waist tighten. Zhou Mochen’s voice was right by her ear. "Promise me, don’t let other men call you so intimately again. I’ll get angry."
"..."
His tone was clearly displeased. It was obvious how much he was still bothered by Xi Zirong calling her ’Susu.’
The thought of Xi Zirong made Xu Su nervous about returning to school tomorrow.
’Huang Feng just said on the phone that he looked like his soul had left his body...’
’For the past three days, I’ve had him blacklisted, so none of his calls or texts could get through. The last time we saw each other, he personally witnessed Shen Chen kissing me in the car...’
Xu Su couldn’t help but criticize herself. ’I really went too far...’
The more she thought about it, the more worried Xu Su became about how she was going to break up with Xi Zirong at school tomorrow.
That night, she spent her time mentally rehearsing all sorts of possible scenarios.
’For example, what if Xi Zirong cornered me in the classroom after class demanding an explanation? What would I say?’
’If he turned into a little crybaby again, how could I harden my heart and insist on breaking up?’
Xu Su had even prepared for the worst-case scenario: if all else failed, she would just tell him straight up that she had fallen for someone else.
She was so thoroughly prepared, but she never expected that when they actually met, Xi Zirong’s reaction would be completely different from what she’d anticipated.
The next morning, Zhou Mochen drove her to the school gate. At Xu Su’s request, he still stopped in that familiar alley.
After finally managing to get away from the increasingly clingy Young Master Zhou, she had just stepped onto campus when she noticed many students, acquaintances and strangers alike, casting subtle glances her way.
Xu Su had always been well-known at First High School, but she hadn’t gotten this many stares since her first year, back when a rumor spread through the entire school that her uncle was a deaf-mute.
Feeling like she was being watched the entire way, Xu Su walked into the classroom with a frown.
"Susu, over here..." The moment she walked in, Gu Yunjia, who was sitting in the fourth row of the middle section, waved to her. "Teacher Wu changed the seating arrangement. We’re deskmates now."
Her voice was loud, and every student in the class turned to look.
Feeling a little uncomfortable being watched by so many people, Xu Su simply smiled and nodded at Gu Yunjia as she walked over.
Teacher Wu had mentioned changing the seats on the phone yesterday and had told Xu Su that her new deskmate would be Gu Yunjia, but she hadn’t specified exactly where they would be sitting.
Xu Su and Gu Yunjia had gotten along pretty well this year. After sitting down, she glanced into her desk cubby and saw it was filled with her books and study materials.
It was even the same desk she had used before.
"God Xi moved it over for you," Gu Yunjia explained when she saw Xu Su’s reaction. "The English, Physics, and Chemistry teachers all handed out two test packets over the past few days. They’re in there for you too. If you want the class notes, I have them."
Gu Yunjia had a good personality. She teased, "But you probably don’t need mine. You have God Xi to cover for you."
"..." ’As if I could still count on Xi Zirong to help me with my grades,’ Xu Su thought. Her inner ostrich took over; she didn’t even dare to look around, terrified of meeting his eyes.
She didn’t have the presence of mind to chat with Gu Yunjia. She just quietly asked for the class notes and silently began her morning self-study.
Gu Yunjia, on the other hand, was a bit of a gossip—in that regard, she and Huang Feng were two peas in a pod. As soon as Xu Su sat down, Gu Yunjia’s eyes were glued to her. Not even the class bell could break her curious stare as she scanned Xu Su’s shoulders and neck.
Noticing her gaze, Xu Su was a little taken aback. She turned her head and asked in confusion, "What are you looking at?"
Recalling the subtle stares she’d received since entering the school, Xu Su suddenly realized. ’Am I the source of the latest gossip again?’
Sure enough, at her question, Gu Yunjia leaned in, her voice full of concern. "Susu, has your wound healed?"
"...The whole school knows?"
Xu Su felt conflicted. It wasn’t exactly something to be proud of, so how had it become common knowledge? She trusted Huang Feng, Qian Jia, and Xu Ran—they would never have spread the news. So...
"It has nothing to do with our class. The rumor came from other classes, from students who are also from Kang County. What happened to you was a big deal back in Kang County, so everyone’s heard about it." As if knowing what Xu Su was thinking, Gu Yunjia explained, "I heard you were hurt pretty badly. Did you even have to go to the hospital?"
Xu Su understood immediately. ’A case of wedding hazing in a small county, where someone got beaten up that badly... if Shen Chen didn’t intentionally suppress the news, of course it would spread all over the county.’
’And it happened during summer break, when there are always students from Kang County at home. I’m already pretty well-known at First High School, so once people heard the victim was a student here, they didn’t need to ask around much to figure out it was me...’
The more she thought about it, the more upset she became.
’Getting injured like this by some punk like Little Huang Mao... it’s embarrassing no matter how you slice it.’
’I’m even starting to feel some misplaced anger toward Shen Chen. He couldn’t even handle things cleanly, letting the news spread all the way to my school.’
Meeting Gu Yunjia’s concerned gaze, Xu Su forced a smile. "It wasn’t a major injury. I’m almost completely healed now."
They weren’t kids anymore; it was easy to tell when someone didn’t want to talk about something. Gu Yunjia noticed Xu Su’s discomfort and didn’t press the issue.
The First High School summer uniform had a lapel collar with three buttons. Xu Su buttoned hers all the way to the top, which perfectly concealed the injury on her neck and collarbone.
None of her classmates could see it, and since she had a rather aloof personality, no one was tactless enough to come over and ask her about it.
When the morning self-study session ended and the bell rang, Qian Jia immediately ran over.
She reached out to put an arm around Xu Su’s shoulder, but her hand stopped in midair as she remembered something. Her eyes filled with concern. "Susu, how’s the injury on your neck?"
Qian Jia was much closer to Xu Su than the other students were, so she didn’t feel it was inappropriate to ask.
Xu Su slightly raised her injured shoulder and moved it a little to show she had full mobility. "It’s almost healed," she said with a smile.
While speaking, she tidied up her desk, getting ready to leave with Qian Jia.
She had just stood up when a hand grabbed her arm.
It was Xi Zirong... His seat, it turned out, was directly behind hers.
