Living Only For Myself: Make Those Who Hate Me Regret It-Chapter 180: "I’ve Used Your Mom!
"...!" Xu Su’s eyes flew wide. She lunged forward and snatched his phone away. Her movement was so abrupt that the plastic stool slid uncontrollably, and she lurched toward Shen Chen.
A hand tightened on her left shoulder. Xu Su successfully got Shen Chen’s phone, but he pulled her into his arms to steady her.
"What’s the panic?" Young Master Shen’s usually nonchalant tone lifted slightly as he chided her. "If you wanted my phone, couldn’t you have just asked? Snatching it like that... what if you’d dropped it?"
Xu Su didn’t bother to reply. She quickly shrugged off the hand on her shoulder and looked down at the chat history on the phone. The professional jargon was a bit dizzying, and the chat window showed the name ’Assistant Liu’.
’...Shen Chen was discussing business with his assistant.’
The realization made Xu Su incredibly embarrassed, and she handed the phone back.
Shen Chen didn’t take it, just looked at her. "Who did you think I was chatting with?"
"..." Xu Su simply put the phone on the table, stammering for a long moment, unable to come up with an excuse.
Finally, she forced out a reason. "I wanted to see how you hit on women."
"Do I need to hit on women?" Shen Chen laughed, not calling her bluff. "So curious about my phone. Be careful your ’boyfriend’ doesn’t get the wrong idea."
He enunciated the word "boyfriend" heavily, as if implying something.
Xu Su was completely mortified. She felt like she’d never been in a worse situation. ’Why did Shen Chen have to actually show up?!’
She just couldn’t wrap her head around it! ’Young Master Shen actually came to this kind of countryside wedding banquet!’
’...She was a little worried Shen Chen would tell Zhou Mochen about her and Xi Zirong’s suspected relationship...’
To her left, Xi Zirong was radiating a dark aura. Even from a short distance, Xu Su could feel the chill. She didn’t dare to look at him. Her ostrich-like instincts kicked in, and she silently started picking at her food.
The others at the table seemed to notice that something was off. Even the usually bold Huang Feng and Chen Ni didn’t say a word.
They had been sitting for no more than ten minutes or so, and Xu Su had only just managed a few bites, when she heard someone from a distance call her name.
It turned out the newlyweds were already making their toasts at the nearby tables. Li Tingting waved at Xu Su. "Susu, come here for a sec."
"..." Though reluctant, Xu Su still nodded stiffly.
Just as she stood up, her left wrist was gripped tightly. Xi Zirong looked at her and urged, "Don’t drink too much."
Xi Zirong’s expression was grim. It was obvious he didn’t want Xu Su to go make toasts, but he didn’t demand that his girlfriend, the bridesmaid, refuse to go. Nor did he forbid her from drinking. He simply, out of concern, told her to drink less.
He was still that gentle and reasonable young man, his eyes full of concern.
Xu Su was touched. She nodded. "Okay."
At this, Shen Chen, who was sitting beside them, let out a soft "tsk."
Xu Su froze, then quickly walked over to Li Tingting.
’Oh well, a toast is a toast,’ she thought. ’At least it’s a good excuse to get away from this awkward table...’
Soon, Xu Su realized she was wrong.
The table Li Tingting had called her over to was very close to where Xi Zirong and the others were sitting. It was filled entirely with the groom’s—Luo Shaofeng’s—buddies.
They were all young men who had noticed the bridesmaid, Xu Su, a while ago. After finding out she was the bride’s cousin, they had asked Li Tingting to call her over for an introduction. Now that they saw Xu Su had really come over, they were stunned by her beauty for a few seconds before immediately getting boisterous.
"Feng-zi, you’re a lucky man! Your sister-in-law is gorgeous."
"You’ve got a wife now, but don’t forget about your bros! Introduce us. How old is your sister-in-law? Does she really have a boyfriend?"
They clearly didn’t believe Xu Su’s answer on stage earlier. A young guy with dyed-blond hair laughed and said, "It doesn’t matter if she has a boyfriend. As long as she’s not married, everyone has a chance."
Li Tingting put an arm around Xu Su’s shoulder and laughingly chided her husband’s friends, "Don’t you guys scare my cousin. She’s still in high school."
They were all his buddies, so they were well aware of the family background of the wife Luo Shaofeng had married. As her cousin, she was most likely just some girl from a small village in Kang County.
They barely showed any respect to Li Tingting, so they were even more brazen with their jokes toward Xu Su, the bridesmaid.
There’s never a shortage of troublemakers, and this table was no exception.
The blond-haired guy, Little Huang Mao, poured a glass of beer and held it out. "Hey, sister-in-law, have a drink with us. We’re your brother-in-law’s buddies, so we’re all family from now on. Just call us ’Bro’."
"A high schooler, huh? Got a boyfriend already at your age?"
"Figures. Pretty girls are never left alone, no matter how young. There’s always someone after them wherever they go."
"With looks like hers, I bet she had plenty of guys chasing her back in middle school."
"I’ve heard people say you can only find virgins in kindergarten these days. I thought it was a joke, but I guess it’s true."
Hearing their remarks, Xu Su’s brow furrowed, her face filled with impatience. She couldn’t understand why all of Li Tingting’s husband’s friends were such low-life punks.
’Or were they just picking on Li Tingting for marrying up, so their "jokes" were crude and malicious on purpose?’
Xu Su didn’t take the beer, leaving Little Huang Mao hanging awkwardly.
Li Tingting couldn’t help but nudge her silent husband.
Only then did Luo Shaofeng reluctantly take the glass from Little Huang Mao. He smiled apologetically at his buddies. "My sister-in-law is young. Don’t take the jokes too far. I’ll drink this one for her."
He was trying to smooth things over, but Little Huang Mao wasn’t having it. Feeling like he’d lost face, he sneered coldly, "Yo, Feng-zi’s getting all protective? I’ve heard the saying that the brother-in-law gets half the sister-in-law’s ass. Did you already claim your half?"
After saying this, he laughed out loud, as if he thought he’d hit the mark.
The sound of his voice made Xu Su’s mind go blank. Without thinking, she grabbed the beer glass in front of her and flung its contents right in his face. "You may look human, but if you can’t speak like one, go wash your filthy mouth out! What kind of fucking idiot are you, daring to say something like that to me?"
After throwing the drink, Xu Su was still seething. She slammed the glass onto the ground. "The one I ’claimed’ was your mom!"
Her sudden outburst stunned Little Huang Mao for a second before he processed it. His face twisted into a snarl. "Fuck your mother! You dare splash me?"
Cursing filthily, the man lunged at Xu Su like a wild animal.
He was fast. His hand swung toward Xu Su’s neck, and she had no time to dodge. Little Huang Mao’s hand struck her squarely, sending her stumbling backward as she cried out in pain, clutching her neck.
Little Huang Mao was about to lunge again when, in the next second, he was kicked several meters away. He crashed into the back of a chair at the next table before collapsing heavily to the ground, clutching his bruised ribs, unable to get back up.
Xu Su thought she was about to take a hard fall, but her wrist was suddenly gripped, and she was quickly pulled into an embrace. Looking up, she saw Shen Chen’s face.
His eyes were filled with anxiety. He looked down, checking her arms and shoulders. "Are you okay? Where did he get you?"
Before Xu Su, still clutching her neck, could speak, an arm tightened around her waist, and she was pulled into a different embrace, enveloped by a familiar scent.
With trembling hands, Xi Zirong grasped the wrist she was using to clutch her neck, coaxing, "Susu, be good now. Let me see how bad it is."
His voice was trembling.
