Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Delicious Lamb Leg

After eating their fill, Xu Yi and Lu Ke rested for about ten minutes before continuing to handle the goat.

Xu Yi handled the goat’s body, while Lu Ke took care of the goat’s innards. After all, these innards are also meat; what a shame it would be to throw them away.

Wasting is not the style of Xu Yi and Lu Ke.

Although handling it was a bit troublesome, the two of them didn’t mind at all.

"Xu Yi, this goat is quite fat, isn’t it? There’s a lot of fat," Lu Ke began chatting with Xu Yi. After all, having caught such a big prey, they wouldn’t have to worry about food for a few days, and naturally, their mood was quite good.

"Yeah, we can render some fat out, not only to add when we cold mix the fishy-smelling herbs but also to make a bar of soap," Xu Yi glanced at the fatty meat they had prepared and commented with satisfaction.

Today was definitely a lucky day!

"I really regret not setting up the hotpot; otherwise, we could have eaten goat hotpot tonight. Just thinking about it makes me happy!" Lu Ke said, swallowing a bit as she spoke.

She had been yearning for goat hotpot for a long time in her world.

"We’ll roast the goat leg tonight; it should taste good too," Xu Yi said while slicing the meat.

"How do you roast it?" Lu Ke asked curiously, feeling that Xu Yi’s eyes had a different glint as if he was contemplating.

"Dig a pit, heat the soil, lay down a layer of stones, place the goat leg on the stones, cover it with a layer of leaves, and then cover it with charcoal," Xu Yi explained to Lu Ke.

"Won’t that be too troublesome?" Although Lu Ke thought this method of roasting sounded pretty good.

"What’s troublesome about it? It’s a simple task," Xu Yi thought that given they finally had a goat, they couldn’t just cook it randomly.

"Xu Yi, can we make some sausages?" Lu Ke asked while washing the intestines.

She thought sausages could be preserved a bit longer, as they focused a lot on preservation.

"Sure, but we only have salt, so the taste might not be great," Xu Yi had no objections to Lu Ke’s attitude towards experimenting with different foods, as it would make their dining table more abundant.

"Let’s make just one to gain some experience," Lu Ke thought that even if one goat’s intestine didn’t taste good, it wouldn’t have much impact.

"Alright, it’s settled then," Xu Yi decided outright.

The two of them worked until after 3 p.m. to get all the meat cut.

These meats needed to be smoked; otherwise, they’d spoil in a few days.

While the goat meat was smoking, Xu Yi carried some wood back.

"Xu Yi, are you planning to build a new shelter?" Lu Ke asked when she saw Xu Yi carrying wood and then start digging a pit.

"Yes, otherwise, the fire will go out and the firewood will get wet when it rains," Xu Yi said while digging.

Xu Yi dug these pits quite deep, so the buried posts would be more stable. It wasn’t like at the start when they had to build shelters quickly.

After all, initially, to have a place to stay, Xu Yi couldn’t spend too much time digging holes.

Lu Ke also thought the shelter was necessary because it would provide a place to hang smoked meat to preserve it longer once dried by the wind.

Mixing the soil under her feet, Lu Ke planned to start making pottery today.

The clothes were almost done, with only Xu Yi’s two pairs of shorts left, which could be completed in two hours in the evening.

The four goat legs had already been placed in the pit using the method Xu Yi described, ready for dinner.

After each hole was dug, Xu Yi would bury a post and stand it up.

By 6 p.m., there were already five posts standing in the courtyard.

Lu Ke had also made four pottery molds.

One pottery pot with a diameter over 25, took the most time because it was bigger than any pottery she had made before.

The other three were deeper pottery plates, which could be used for holding dishes.

"Alright, let’s rest and get ready to eat the goat leg," Xu Yi said to Lu Ke, then used the Engineer Shovel to sweep away the charcoal from the roasted goat leg.

After uncovering the leaves, the fragrance of the meat wafted out.

Xu Yi sniffed and was pleasantly surprised that there was no gamey smell, only the aroma of the meat.

"Smells so good," Lu Ke leaned over to take a whiff.

"It does smell good, let’s see how it tastes," Xu Yi placed the goat leg on a stone slab and cut a slice with his knife to taste.

The meat was tender and perfectly roasted.

"It’s delicious, no gamey taste, try it," Xu Yi said, slicing a piece for Lu Ke.

Instead of taking it with her hand, Lu Ke leaned in and bit it directly from Xu Yi’s hand.

Chewing a few times, she nodded vigorously, "So tasty, better than any meat I’ve had before."

"Alright, you go wash your hands; I’ll cut the meat," Xu Yi said, taking two pottery bowls and slicing the goat leg into pieces.

"Leave some meat for me; the leg is best when gnawed directly. You’re being too artsy," Lu Ke said confidently when she returned after washing her hands, seeing Xu Yi slicing the meat.

"Alright, I’ll save some meat for you," Xu Yi smiled and continued slicing the meat.

"Here, the leg is yours," Xu Yi said, taking his bowl of sliced goat meat. Dinner was goat leg along with a bowl of long-boiled goat bone soup.

"The soup is a bit gamey; some ginger slices would improve it," Lu Ke remarked after taking a sip of the goat bone soup.

Xu Yi nodded in agreement, thinking that adding some cooking wine would also remove the gamey flavor.

After tasting a slice of goat meat, Xu Yi said, "Ginger, scallion, garlic, chili, truly improve the flavor of the food. Wonder if this world has them."

"If it does, that would be great; the dishes would be more fragrant," Lu Ke exclaimed excitedly, as a foodie, knowing that food without spices lacks soul.

After speaking, Lu Ke picked up the goat leg and bit off a piece of meat.

"Loli Ke was right, unless you gnaw on a goat leg, where’s the fun in eating it?"

"Compared to Loli Ke, isn’t Xu Yi a bit wimpy?"

"Why? I think Loli Ke looks especially beautiful gnawing on a goat leg!"

"You’re not alone; everyone thinks so."

"Come on, it’s just gnawing on a goat leg, no need to rave about it."

"I’m really curious, just roasting it simply with a bit of salt, is it really that delicious? Watching them eat is making me drool."

"These two are real foodies, turning an ordinary roast goat leg into a top-notch delicacy."

"I really regret not signing up; if I’d known wilderness survival was this easy, I would have joined."

"Meow~"

A gray wildcat suddenly appeared in the frame, interrupting Xu Yi and Lu Ke’s dinner.
