Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 42: Short Hair Is Just Fine
Hearing "twice-cooked pork," Lu Ke couldn’t help but swallow.
It’s one of her favorite dishes.
The tempting image of it already appeared in her mind.
"Let’s connect the water tomorrow, so we won’t have to go out for water anymore." Xu Yi glanced at the boiling fish slices in the pot and then spoke to Lu Ke.
"Sure, that’ll be much more convenient." Lu Ke said happily, so she could stay in the shelter and complete some tasks.
"Yeah, that way we can shower every day." Xu Yi sweats a lot every day; not showering is really not an option, as the odor is too strong, and he is afraid it might bother Lu Ke.
Lu Ke nodded, as this is also what she wants.
"The fish slices are ready to eat." Lu Ke said, and then served a bowl for Xu Yi.
In the firelight, the two enjoyed the delicious fish slices.
"I thought the fish wouldn’t be so tender after a day, but it still tastes so good." Xu Yi said contentedly after swallowing the last piece of fish.
"Yeah, the fish soup too, fresh and sweet, it warms the stomach, very comforting." Lu Ke patted her belly, feeling that she had eaten a bit too much today.
Lu Ke cleaned up the dishes, and Xu Yi got up to check the fence, to see if there were any unstable places.
"This corner can be made into a bathroom, it’s a bit more sanitary than having one indoors." Xu Yi mumbled to himself.
After all, nature calls, and these issues are very important and need to be properly resolved.
As for how to address the sanitation issue, Xu Yi needed to think it through.
If not handled properly, it would be quite problematic, a single odor could seriously affect air quality.
Smooth pipes and squat toilets are quite a challenge.
Pottery won’t do; it needs to be porcelain.
Firing porcelain in the wild is not an easy task.
The glaze is not easy to solve either.
In this regard, Xu Yi knew he needed to ask Lu Ke. She is the expert in this field, unlike him.
After making a round, Xu Yi returned to the fire.
Lu Ke had also finished washing the dishes and had wetted some soil with the dishwater, preparing to make some mud bricks.
"Xu Yi, you’ve brought back a lot of bark, we could weave a mat as a tabletop, what do you think?" Lu Ke asked Xu Yi while mixing the soil.
"Of course, great. After connecting the water tomorrow, I’ll see if I can make a table." Xu Yi said with a smile while adding more firewood.
"A table, great. Let’s also make some stools with this type of bark, which is very flexible and should support our weight." Lu Ke said happily, feeling that squatting all the time isn’t good.
"Good idea, easier than making chairs." Xu Yi grinned, regretting not having read more books on Wood Art, as it would allow him to make more items.
Wooden barrels, beds, houses, clogs, etc.
"It feels like there’s still a lot to do." Lu Ke felt she should make a kiln sooner so she could have time for pottery making.
"No problem, we still have over four hundred days, take it slow." Xu Yi said while continuing to work on his uncompleted bow.
"True, doing a little each day will make it easier later." Lu Ke said with a sweet smile, feeling that each day is particularly meaningful, as every item is crafted by them.
Xu Yi nodded, finding Lu Ke’s smile quite captivating, wanting to see more.
However, Lu Ke’s attention shifted to the soil, not showing her charming smile anymore.
After finishing with the soil, she washed her feet.
She hadn’t sweated much today, so there was no need for a shower.
It was Xu Yi who needed a shower, having traveled far, carried bark, and the umbrella tree.
So after working on the Hunting Bow for a while, Xu Yi went for a shower.
Not having a towel at times is quite inconvenient.
"Lu Ke, help me shave my head tomorrow." Xu Yi thought a shaved head might be more convenient and save a lot of hassle.
Appearance wasn’t a concern for him.
Survival is more important than image.
Currently, everything must give way for survival.
"Ah, a shaved head, okay." Lu Ke had shaved her head before and wasn’t fond of the look.
As every shaved head she saw was due to chemotherapy.
"It’s decided then, shaved head is hassle-free." Xu Yi grinned, saying confidently.
"Do I have to shave my head?" Lu Ke knew a shaved head would be more convenient, at least there’d be no hair to wash.
"No, your short hair is just fine, no need to shorten it further." Xu Yi promptly said, aiming for convenience himself, and knowing that if Lu Ke went bald, fans might criticize him.
"Moreover, I plan to make soap sooner, so you’ll have soap, and your hair won’t be dry." Xu Yi revealed his plan.
However, making soap requires animal fat.
They haven’t hunted any large animals yet, so available fat is limited.
"Alright, I won’t shave my head then." It seemed Xu Yi convinced Lu Ke.
Xu Yi immediately breathed a sigh of relief, as he preferred Lu Ke with a ponytail. Although she couldn’t tie it back now, he still found it pleasant.
Once he felt dry, Xu Yi put on his underwear and pants, and walked out of the surrounding.
"Alright, go get some rest, it’s getting late." Xu Yi glanced at the Star Chart, seeing it was past 10 PM.
Since they shared a sleeping bag and weren’t a couple, going to sleep at the same time was awkward, requiring one to go first.
Lu Ke yawned, which Xu Yi quickly caught, as did many viewers in the live stream.
"I’m going to sleep, you come to rest soon too." Lu Ke didn’t stand on ceremony with Xu Yi, turning and heading inside to crawl into the sleeping bag.
Xu Yi continued to work on the Hunting Bow; there was still a way to go before fine-tuning, and his current main task was to carve out a basic shape.
Thanks to an exceptionally sharp knife, Xu Yi’s work was relatively easy and efficient.
In one night, he had carved away most of the wood.
He held out until after midnight before succumbing to fatigue, setting aside his work. After adding enough wood to the fire, Xu Yi got into the sleeping bag and quickly fell asleep.
Tomorrow brings a new challenge.
