Chapter 297: Chapter 297: Collapsed Under the Snow

"Xu Yi, our house won’t be blown away, right?" Lu Ke asked with some concern, as the wind outside was strong, and the sound was quite frightening.

"It shouldn’t, but if it’s really blown away, there’s nothing we can do." Xu Yi said helplessly, feeling incredibly small in the face of nature. There’s just no way to fight it, especially with just the two of them, they couldn’t change much.

Lu Ke nodded; the situation was indeed as Xu Yi had described, and they really had no ability to change anything.

"Let’s sleep, or if it’s blown away, we won’t be able to sleep." Xu Yi said to Lu Ke, then walked to the bed and lay down.

Although the tree bark was making noise, not much wind came in.

Lu Ke felt what Xu Yi said made sense, so she lay down too.

At first, the noise was too loud to sleep, but after more than an hour, Lu Ke fell into a daze and eventually fell asleep.

"So cold."

The next day, when Xu Yi woke up, he found the temperature was extremely low, with a layer of frost on the fur covering himself. This was because the temperature was too low, causing the breath to freeze into vapor.

The fire inside the house had long been extinguished, but fortunately, the tree bark walls and roof were still there.

Lu Ke was still lying next to Xu Yi and hadn’t woken up.

"System, check-in."

Xu Yi completed his 86th day of check-in, then got out of bed.

Opening the door, he saw a white world outside.

The snow was very deep, and the Stilt House was only more than a meter above the snow surface.

Xu Yi had never seen over a meter of snow before.

There were quite a lot of snow in the corridor too, looking about twenty centimeters deep.

Xu Yi walked out, his sheepskin boots making a ’shshsh’ sound on the snow.

The blizzard had stopped, and the trees outside were also covered with snow, making it seem like the whole world was white.

"My God, the snow is so heavy, it must be over a meter and a half deep?"

"Maybe if Loli Ke jumps down, she’d be buried by the snow."

"This is a snow disaster; I wonder how many animals will die."

"We’re not even a hundred days into this, and there’s already such a snow disaster."

"Is this planet really suitable for human survival? I have my doubts!"

"Fortunately, each group has a good stockpile of food; even the least can last a month, enough to make it to 100 days. Once we move locations, maybe the environment will be much better."

"Initially, the climate here was great, very habitable, who’s to know it would turn so harsh."

Xu Yi walked to the edge of the corridor to take a look, and the roof of the deer pen had already caved in from the middle.

The condition of Dabai and the two reindeer couldn’t be clearly seen.

However, Xu Yi listened carefully for a while and could still hear their heartbeats, which meant they were still alive.

With the snow so thick, there was no way for Xu Yi to go over and rescue them.

As long as they’re alive, they should be fine for a while.

Xu Yi returned to the house and rekindled the fire.

The outside temperature was extremely low, Xu Yi guessed at least minus ten degrees Celsius.

Such low temperatures are not a good thing.

Perhaps, many animals will freeze to death directly.

The heavy snow trapped all the groups in their camps.

In the tree hole, Wang Jin looked at the snow outside, feeling an impulse to jump down.

She felt it would probably be fun.

However, she didn’t do it.

Last night, she and Lu Yao worked overtime to put together a temporary donkey shed, which was also covered by snow.

Yet, it seemed like it hadn’t collapsed under the snow since they only used logs and no other materials.

"Sis, with so much snow, even if the sun comes out, it’ll take two days to melt, right?" Wang Jin pulled her body back, sitting down in front of the fire.

Even in such cold weather, wearing thick furs, she still felt chilly; being near the fire was a must.

"Yes, hopefully, it’ll clear up soon and melt the ice and snow. Otherwise, once we run out of firewood, we’d freeze to death." Lu Yao looked worriedly at the sky, which was still overcast, as if it would snow again.

If the heavy snow continued for half a day, it might cover their camp.

"The sun will definitely come out. It was thirty degrees at noon yesterday." Wang Jin remained optimistic, as this wasn’t the first snow.

"I wonder how Xu Yi and Lu Ke are doing. Good thing they went back yesterday; otherwise, they’d be buried in the snow." Wang Jin curiously asked, looking outside. She’d heard from Lu Ke that their camp was a Stilt House with an upstairs and downstairs, Xu Yi and Lu Ke lived on the second floor, and Juha slept on the first floor.

Barring unexpected circumstances, Juha should be trapped on the first floor now.

"They probably aren’t worse off than us; you don’t need to worry. Better think about how to get those two wild donkeys out." Lu Yao said, looking at the snow outside. Yesterday, she and Wang Jin went to where the wild donkeys lived, and one got caught in their rope trap, so they brought it back.

The wild donkey suffered quite a bit along the way, Lu Yao’s hand even went numb from hitting it. But it was worth it, as the donkey had become noticeably more obedient.

"How do we deal with snow so thick? Digging it out would take forever. They were just braying, so they’re fine; it’ll be okay once the snow melts." Wang Jin felt it unnecessary to waste the effort; the snow was so deep it was unmanageable.

Lu Yao said nothing, nodding in agreement.

The snow was indeed too deep; it felt overwhelming to start dealing with it.

Many other groups’ camps were in similar situations, especially those with riding animals.

After Xu Yi restarted the fire, Lu Ke woke up.

Seeing their house still standing, Lu Ke couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Before going to sleep last night, she worried that by dawn, there would only be a frame left of the house.

"Awake? It’s all snow outside, so today we’re staying home, playing chess to pass the time." Xu Yi joked when he saw Lu Ke sitting up.

"Is the snow that thick?" Lu Ke put on her coat and got out of bed.

"Yes, I’d say it’s over one point seven meters." Xu Yi sipped some hot water, replying.

"That deep? Isn’t the deer pen collapsed?" Lu Ke wrapped in her coat, walked to the door, and then saw the situation outside.

In a completely icy world, Lu Ke felt a bit at a loss.

All she saw was white, with a few patches of green.

"Our deer pen really collapsed. Dabai and the reindeer..." Lu Ke had thought about suggesting to lead Dabai and the reindeer to the first floor of the Stilt House the night before, but worried Juha might attack them, so she didn’t.

"Don’t worry, they’re not dead. Listen closely, and you’ll know." Xu Yi comforted.

Lu Ke listened closely for a moment, then showed a relaxed smile.

After all, Dabai and the reindeer were their assets; if they died, it would be a huge loss.
