Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 254: The Battle Begins
Wang Jin and Lu Yao were both staring intently at the two groups of animals in the distance. They were testing each other, growling.
The Giant Wolves gathered together, continuously baring their fangs.
When they rushed out, the animals on the opposite side, like leopards, would scatter. However, soon, they would approach from both sides, seemingly looking for an opportunity to strike.
Seeing this situation, Lu Yao instead breathed a sigh of relief.
These animals at least have some fear.
What she feared most was a battle breaking out without any probing. Such beasts fight as if they are dying for a cause, and wouldn’t stop unless truly dead.
"They’re biting each other, great, and they’re seventy to eighty meters away now," Wang Jin said happily, seeing a beast leap onto the back of a Giant Wolf, starting to viciously bite.
Then came a second, a third... suddenly the Giant Wolf was overwhelmed.
"Not even a minute... and the Giant Wolf is down?"
"Isn’t this freaking terrifying?"
"Wanzi’s face turned pale, she’s probably scared by the fighting prowess of those leopards as well?"
"The Giant Wolf was too weak, and its companions reacted too slowly, didn’t they?"
"It’s not that they reacted slowly, it’s that those leopards were too fierce, they seized on every opening. The Giant Wolf retaliated, but it couldn’t change the fate of its companion’s death."
With one Giant Wolf down, the savageness of the Giant Wolves was completely triggered.
One was bitten by a Giant Wolf, and was killed in a single bite, without even a chance to struggle.
Yet, this didn’t deter the leopards; they continued to provoke intermittently.
This was a war of attrition, draining each other’s stamina.
Wang Jin and Lu Yao were the happiest. Their mutual destruction would be most advantageous for them.
Maybe later, they could even come down to finish them off, earn some points, and collect some meat and pelts.
"Sis, should we go down? We can’t see the Giant Wolves and those leopards anymore," Wang Jin looked at Lu Yao with an eager expression.
"Let’s go down and take a look, hoping they won’t come back." With that, Lu Yao opened the gate of the barricade and retreated back to the treehouse, then lowered the ladder.
The two gathered their weapons and headed toward the battlefield.
The Giant Wolf that was bitten first was already dead, its blood staining the surrounding ground red.
The air was filled with a strong stench of blood.
"The pelt has been shredded and torn to an unrecognizable state. Those leopards’ claws are really sharp," Wang Jin said with some lingering fear as she looked at the Giant Wolf whose pelt was in tatters.
If she and Lu Yao encountered that group of leopards, the outcome would likely be gruesome.
"And quite a bit of meat has been eaten away; these Scale Armor leopards are terrifying." Lu Yao glanced around, finding no leopard carcasses, only seeing a leg, and immediately went over to pick it up.
A squeeze on the paw pad revealed all the claws.
"Feels even sharper than the Steel-Clawed Earth Wolf’s claws; no wonder they could easily tear open the Giant Wolf’s skin," Lu Yao said with a frown. Although those leopards were a third smaller than normal leopards, if they encountered a cheetah, the cheetah would definitely lose miserably.
"Let’s hope they don’t come back, otherwise we really can’t handle them," Wang Jin said, glancing in the direction where the Giant Wolves and leopards left.
They could no longer hear their sounds; they must have moved quite far away. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"Cut the meat and take it back, then burn the remaining carcass. Otherwise, it will attract other beasts." Lu Yao said, pulling out her machete.
Though part had been torn away, there was still plenty of meat, definitely no less than thirty to fifty pounds.
"Alright, I’ll get the firewood," Wang Jin said, thinking it best to burn the carcass since their camp was less than a hundred meters away.
It took effort to drive away the Giant Wolves; better not have another formidable beast blocking the entry.
In that case, what hope would there be?
"What’s up?" Wang Jin asked after bringing back an armful of firewood, noticing Lu Yao wasn’t cutting meat but making a fire.
"The meat is too tough; I guess even if we make jerky, we can’t chew it, so let’s just burn it," Lu Yao explained. After all, they had some food reserves now and didn’t need to collect meat that was clearly going to be tough to chew.
"What a bummer, I thought we could score a bit of a bargain," Wang Jin grumbled, frustrated.
"Those leopards’ meat should be more tender. I wonder who won between them," Lu Yao said, glancing in the direction the Giant Wolfs left.
"Regardless of who wins, there’s nothing for us to gain, is there?" Wang Jin thought that neither the Giant Wolves nor those Scale Armor leopards could be tackled by them at the moment.
Unless there were only one or two left.
Lu Yao nodded, dismissing the idea of checking further.
If they don’t come back, that would be the best outcome; no need to find trouble actively.
After setting the Giant Wolf’s body on fire, the two walked away.
"What next, do we stay at camp or go for a stroll nearby?" Wang Jin asked, covering her nose; the smell of burning protein was particularly unpleasant.
"Let’s take a stroll nearby, even going back to the treehouse we wouldn’t withstand the smell," Lu Yao replied. It was best to go out after being cooped up at home for half a day. They might even run into a lone beast if lucky.
Wang Jin nodded and quickly left with Lu Yao, heading in the direction of Xu Yi and Lu Ke’s camp. That direction was opposite to where the Giant Wolves and leopards went, so it was a bit safer.
At least they needn’t worry about encountering Giant Wolves or those leopards.
"Sis, do you think Xu Yi and Lu Ke might encounter beasts like the Giant Wolves? This forest is much more dangerous than where we previously stayed," Wang Jin still hoped they might run into Xu Yi and Lu Ke, so she often suggested going that direction to Lu Yao.
Unfortunately, they hadn’t come across Xu Yi and Lu Ke despite all these days.
One could only say this forest was too vast.
Unless they were prepared to stay out overnight continuously, finding them would be difficult.
"They probably will encounter them. This forest has more types of beasts and in larger numbers. However, they’re probably doing just fine," Lu Yao thought that having no news is the best news.
After all, if they received news, it would likely mean forfeit or elimination.
They were startled hearing about Team 76’s elimination last time.
"Quite true, back then Xu Yi and Lu Ke lived more comfortably than us, now they surely wouldn’t be worse off. By the way, Sis, do you think they’d return to the coastline? Maybe we should leave a message for Xu Yi and Lu Ke at the valley entrance, asking them to meet up there on the hundredth day?" Wang Jin suggested leaving a message for Xu Yi and Lu Ke in case they couldn’t find their camp.
