Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 252: A Troop of Monkeys
"Let’s wait for them to leave. We can’t deal with these Giant Wolves. They’ll leave once they realize they can’t do anything to us," Lu Yao said helplessly, noticing that the number of Giant Wolves outside was beyond what she could handle.
These immensely tall Giant Wolves, with biting power that seemed astonishing, had frightening strength and agility.
The fact that they hadn’t broken into their wooden house was already a fortunate thing.
"What if they don’t leave?" Wang Jin glanced at Lu Yao, feeling that the door wasn’t sturdy enough, so he gripped his axe tightly.
"It’s impossible for them to stay indefinitely. We have enough jerky to last a month. At most, they’ll stay a day before leaving," Lu Yao said, acknowledging when to back down.
"But we don’t have much water, at most enough for three days," Wang Jin said helplessly. While there was plenty of jerky stored, the water supply was limited.
"It’s fine, they won’t hold out for so many days," Lu Yao replied. Apart from waiting, she and Wang Jin had no other options.
Go out and risk their lives?
That was a losing battle, unless only one or two were left behind.
"Can we attack them?" Wang Jin glanced at the Hunting Bow near Lu Yao, knowing that most wild beasts couldn’t withstand arrows.
"I think we shouldn’t take the risk. If we provoke them and they forcefully attack us, we might not be able to drive them off," Lu Yao rejected the idea outright, as it was too risky.
These Giant Wolves were extremely large, standing about 1.5 meters tall and over 3 meters long.
If they stood up, they could put their front paws on their bookhouse’s doorstep, giving them a chance to climb up.
Not only were their weapons limited, but the Giant Wolves also traveled in packs. Even if they managed to kill a few, they’d exhaust their strength and wouldn’t be able to handle the remaining wolves.
So, an attack wouldn’t completely solve the problem with the Giant Wolves. It was better not to provoke them actively.
Lu Yao’s attitude prompted some brave comments in the livestream chat.
"Is Cousin being a bit timid?"
"Timid? Does your keyboard fire bullets? How dare you say Cousin is timid?"
"Not only bullets, the moment they type, those Giant Wolves kneel and call them daddy."
"Wanzi and the others are incredibly unlucky, trapped right at their doorstep. It’d be terrible if the Giant Wolves never leave."
"Since there are Giant Wolves, might there be Giant Tigers, Giant Bears, Giant Apes, and Giant Lions too?"
"There’s a strong possibility. It’s outrageous that these giant Fierce Beasts are social creatures. How are the herbivores supposed to survive?"
"Yeah, if there were only one or two, I believe Cousin would’ve already acted."
"Being stuck and unable to go out is really frustrating. Probably a whole day stuck; I think I’ll go watch Loli Ke instead."
Many others in the audience had the same idea. With only two livestream channels currently active, roaming around was a bit easier.
Lu Ke had finished training and was now holding a steel pot, milking.
After milking for over ten minutes, she had gathered a pot full of milk.
After boiling it, the milk’s aroma filled the air.
Drinking goat milk and chewing on jerky for breakfast, Xu Yi was fairly satisfied with the meal.
Seeing Dabai’s condition, the milk supply seemed sufficient, enough for both himself and Lu Ke to have goat milk every morning without issue.
After breakfast, Xu Yi and Lu Ke spread the mushrooms they picked yesterday on the roof to dry.
Thereafter, the two carried their baskets and went out.
Because the fishing net hadn’t been woven yet, Xu Yi and Lu Ke didn’t bring it along.
They first checked the traps, but no animals had stepped into them last night.
"Xu Yi, there are some droppings here. Is it possible that reindeer passed by?" Lu Ke pointed at the droppings on the ground and asked.
"Probably not reindeer. It doesn’t look like herbivore droppings," Xu Yi replied, looking around. He didn’t find any animal footprints or detect any scents.
"What do herbivore droppings look like? Dabai’s poop looked similar," Lu Ke asked, confused. She had cleaned up Dabai’s droppings that morning.
"Herbivore droppings are mostly green, varying from light to dark shades. Therefore, I suspect that Dabai might not be a pure herbivore, or not even a goat. Goat milk usually has a strong taste, but Dabai’s milk doesn’t have any at all. Of course, this is an alien planet, so maybe goat milk here naturally lacks a strong taste," Xu Yi said, noting that Dabai’s appearance also differed from a typical mountain goat.
"But it doesn’t seem like a carnivore either," Lu Ke said, still not giving Dabai any jerky.
"Some carnivores are specialized scavengers. Maybe Dabai is one of those. We’ll find out when we test it tonight," Xu Yi remarked. If only there were more than one Dabai, they’d already know after slaughtering one.
Carnivores have points, and we could identify their species.
"Should we gather grass for Dabai to eat?" Lu Ke asked. She hoped Dabai was a herbivore, as it would be easier to maintain.
"Yes, if we come across some Clover, let’s take some," Xu Yi replied, thinking it wouldn’t hurt even if Dabai didn’t eat it.
"Let’s go, see what’s over there," said Xu Yi, pointing in a new direction, hoping to encounter a herd of reindeer and capture two for taming.
If they could capture reindeer, they wouldn’t need to rush to the coast, as they could then undergo taming before traveling. That way, they could make a round trip in a day.
Lu Ke nodded, following Xu Yi’s lead.
The two explored in the new direction for some distance before Xu Yi suddenly quickened his pace.
"What is it? Did you find something?" Lu Ke caught up and immediately asked.
Xu Yi had reacted similarly before.
"Yes, there’s a fragrance, a bit like mango," Xu Yi replied. He had seen Wang Jin and Lu Yao eat dried mangoes, implying there were mangoes on this island.
"Really! Let’s go check it out," Lu Ke replied excitedly. Before, when strawberries failed to dry properly, she was quite annoyed. If they could find mangoes, drying them wouldn’t be an issue at all.
Lu Yao and Wang Jin had dried mangoes themselves.
The taste of mangoes was excellent, and Lu Ke liked them very much.
Especially in such a fruit-scarce wilderness, it heightened her anticipation for the impending appearance of mangoes.
After walking for over ten minutes, Xu Yi and Lu Ke spotted a massive mango tree, laden with large red mangoes.
However, Xu Yi and Lu Ke halted their steps.
A group of large-sized monkeys, about thirty to forty of them, were busy picking mangoes.
