Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 229: Too Expensive
"Found it, there is such a book. But... it requires 25 points, so expensive." Lu Ke didn’t expect a book to be so pricey.
That book doesn’t even look thick.
In their world, maybe it would only be sold for 25 yuan, and it might even be discounted.
"Too expensive, not exchanging." Xu Yi felt there was no way he could earn enough points to exchange for that book. If it were within ten points, he might consider it.
Currently, he and Lu Ke have 208 points, but to spend 25 points on a book, Xu Yi truly couldn’t do it.
So, he’d rather trade some honey for it instead.
Even if it fails, it would only be a small loss of honey, no big deal.
"It’s really expensive, huh? You need to hunt 5 wild wolves to exchange for a book, the organizers must be capitalists." Lu Ke complained, seeing as Xu Yi wasn’t willing to exchange, she decided not to dwell on it either.
"In a couple of days, we’ll pick some, preserve them with honey, and then steam them to remove the moisture. I refuse to believe it won’t work."
"Yeah, steaming can also remove a lot of moisture." Lu Ke nodded, feeling that Xu Yi’s method seemed reliable.
"Moreover, the preserved honey can be used to make strawberry jam." Lu Ke thought using honey wouldn’t be wasted at all; it could be completely used to make strawberry jam.
Xu Yi agreed, nodding. Even used honey wasn’t wasted, as it could be used to make honey water for drinking.
"So tonight I’ll make a steamer, and you finish weaving the remaining backpack, then we’ll mix clay together and try to get the clay kiln done as soon as possible." Xu Yi planned that after dinner they could get started.
Lu Ke didn’t expect Xu Yi to know how to make a steamer.
If they had flour, they could make some buns to eat.
Buns, noodles, rice.
Thinking about it made Lu Ke’s mouth water.
Exchanging 25 points for a book is truly foolish!
Why not exchange it for a bag of rice or flour; wouldn’t that taste better?
During the time spent cooking the rabbit meat, Xu Yi picked up his machete and started making bamboo strips.
Lu Ke also picked up the unfinished backpack from last night and continued weaving.
After about twenty minutes, they were eating rabbit meat.
"Xu Yi, it seems like it’s gotten a bit colder today?" Lu Ke felt a chill on her neck, something she didn’t feel last night.
"Yeah, a bit. My feet feel a bit cold." Xu Yi noted. Although Lu Ke had woven him new bamboo shoes, they weren’t much warmer than the previous ones.
"I’ll make you a pair of leather boots from wolfskin. Since a few wolves were cut down, their skins would be difficult to assemble into clothing, which isn’t so convenient." Lu Ke said with some concern, though her own boots were fine, and her feet didn’t feel cold at all.
"Alright, that would be great." Xu Yi thought the nights might get even cooler, and even if they didn’t, keeping it this way, boots would still be handy.
"Okay, once the wolfskin is thoroughly dried and smoked, I can start making them." Lu Ke sweetly smiled at Xu Yi, feeling happy to make something for him.
It only took half an hour for Lu Ke to finish weaving the backpack.
However, she still needed to weave another one. Now that her strength had increased quite a bit, she didn’t need to make a smaller one and could weave one of the same size.
With the experience of the first one, Lu Ke finished the second one even faster.
In four hours, the second one was completed.
"All done!" Lu Ke stood up, stretched lazily, and looked at the time; it was just 11:05, half an hour faster than she expected.
"So fast, and I’m not even done with the steamer." Xu Yi looked up at Lu Ke; he was so focused on his work that he didn’t realize Lu Ke had finished.
"It’s already eleven, not so fast really. You had to make all those bamboo strips; otherwise, you’d be done by now." Lu Ke twisted her waist as she spoke.
"Xu Yi, should we have a drink to celebrate? We’ve both been at it for 60 days, haven’t we?" Lu Ke said, glancing at Xu Yi.
"Sure, you head up and light the campfire; I’ll be right there." Xu Yi replied, continuing to weave the steamer in his hands.
Lu Ke nodded, got some charcoal with the Engineer Shovel, and climbed the ladder upstairs.
After lighting the campfire, Xu Yi came up with a few pieces of smoked meat.
They didn’t drink much since they only had one jar of grape wine left, and if they finished it, they’d have to exchange points for more if they wanted any.
The cheapest bottle of wine required ten points, and there was no way Xu Yi and Lu Ke would exchange for that.
After drinking, Lu Ke went straight to bed.
It was getting a bit late anyway.
Xu Yi didn’t sleep; instead, he took out the jar of oil from his Storage Space, heated it, and then poured it into lye water.
Then Xu Yi started stirring the mixture, waiting for the saponification reaction.
Once the liquid began to solidify, Xu Yi went to rest.
By this time, Lu Ke was already sound asleep, and Xu Yi felt quite peaceful himself.
After lying down, Xu Yi quickly drifted into a sweet dream.
One peaceful night, Xu Yi opened his eyes, and it was already the next morning.
Downstairs, Lu Ke was still practicing the Fighting Techniques.
"System, check-in." Xu Yi completed the 66th check-in and then got up.
"Xu Yi, morning! Did you finish making the soap last night? It seems better than the previous one." Lu Ke noticed when she got up in the morning, though she hadn’t cut them out yet.
"Yeah, couldn’t sleep anyway, so I made some." Xu Yi smiled slightly, jumped down from the Stilt House, and began practicing the Eighteen Forms of Body Strengthening along with the Fighting Techniques.
Breakfast was jerky, so nothing special was needed, and Lu Ke took the opportunity while Xu Yi practiced to cut out the soap.
These were special, strawberry-scented.
Because Xu Yi added some strawberry juice yesterday.
It seemed to have worked well.
Lu Ke rather liked it; after cutting, she took one to wash her face again.
By the time Xu Yi finished practicing and washing up, Lu Ke had already boiled enough hot water.
Today, they still needed to harvest some flax. This way, they’d have enough to weave ropes and make clothes.
