Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 197: Devastating Destruction
"Let’s start over. We initially had only six tools, and we managed to build a decent camp. Now with more tools, there’s no way we can’t build a great camp, right?" Xu Yi said confidently. Previously, they lacked some experience, but now they could establish a new camp with more refinement.
"Yes, we can definitely do better." Lu Ke nodded vigorously, clearing away the gloom in her heart.
Compared to when they first arrived on this planet, she had changed a lot and was now more capable of contributing to building a new camp with Xu Yi.
"Boil some water, we’ll need to drink it on the way." said Xu Yi, handing the pot to Lu Ke before starting a fire.
According to the time, Wang Jin and Lu Yao would probably not show up for another half hour, so using this time to boil some water was perfect.
Without water, it would be hard to travel far. Both Lu Yao and Wang Jin also needed to boil some water.
Xu Yi’s satchel still had a survival tool, and he brought over some leaves, quickly starting a fire.
After placing the steel pot on the fire, Xu Yi began peeling some tree bark, preparing to tie up the clay jar so he could carry it on his back.
Lu Ke’s basket had been blown away by the storm, so Xu Yi could carry it for her. After all, the clay jar itself weighed twenty-something pounds, and with the honey inside, it was quite heavy.
"Damn, we worked on the flax for so long, and now we have none left," Lu Ke said angrily, watching Xu Yi make tree bark ropes.
"What we’ve lost, we can get back. Since this island has these plants, we can find them again." Xu Yi looked up at Lu Ke. They had lost more than just flax—salt, raisins, hides, dried meat, and other supplies too.
As Xu Yi said, anything lost can be retrieved. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
After over thirty minutes, Xu Yi and Lu Ke saw Wang Jin and Lu Yao’s figures.
The two were carrying baskets, each holding a wooden bucket that seemed to be filled with items.
Another ten minutes passed before Wang Jin and Lu Yao reached where Xu Yi and Lu Ke were.
"How’s your camp?" Lu Ke asked because she saw fur in the baskets of Wang Jin and Lu Yao, suggesting their camp hadn’t suffered much loss.
"We got lucky. Our fur was buried under the soil, so it survived. The salt and dried mangoes in the barrels didn’t suffer much loss either; things are pretty good," Wang Jin said happily, feeling fortunate that she and Lu Yao went back, otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many things to take.
As for weapons, sleeping bags, steel pots, they were naturally in the baskets they carried, and hadn’t been lost.
What they did lose were some dried meats and, of course, their camp, so their material losses were relatively small.
Xu Yi glanced at their wooden barrels and noticed the blackened sides, as if they had been burnt.
He immediately realized that these wooden barrels were made using charcoal firing.
He and Lu Ke could make such wooden barrels too, which were relatively easier to make than clay pots.
"You are quite lucky. All our salt was blown away," Lu Ke said enviously to Wang Jin.
Not knowing how to respond, Wang Jin then said, "Sister, should we also boil some water?"
"Yes, we should," Lu Yao nodded, not wanting to drink water from Xu Yi and Lu Ke.
So they spent half an hour boiling enough water.
"Alright, let’s set off." With that, Xu Yi gave Lu Yao and Wang Jin a meaningful look.
Helping each other was not feasible, so they each carried their own belongings.
Soon, the four of them left the former camp of Xu Yi and Lu Ke.
They were bound to return to this beach.
After all, Xu Yi and Lu Ke had lost all their salt and needed to get some salt from the natural salt pool over there.
With the drone ball following, Wang Jin and Lu Yao kept their distance, about forty to fifty meters away. With no obstacles in sight, they could still see Xu Yi and Lu Ke from that distance.
Xu Yi and Lu Ke made no comment on Wang Jin and Lu Yao intentionally keeping their distance.
Technically, they couldn’t have helped each other last night. Lu Yao was just quick to react and rushed over to Xu Yi and Lu Ke’s camp, discovering they had hidden in the trench.
Xu Yi and Lu Ke hadn’t invited them, so it couldn’t be considered as help.
After all, they couldn’t just drive people away, right?
Even so, Lu Yao felt it was best not to constantly test the boundaries of what was allowable, fearing the consequences they wouldn’t want to see.
Xu Yi and Lu Ke first climbed to the top of the slope. They had once hung a goat here while attempting to climb to the top to check things out. Instead, they nearly got killed by the Illusionary Flower Beast.
But now they could no longer identify the specific area.
All the trees had been uprooted, lying in a disorganized mess on the ground, with the soil exposed everywhere.
"Xu Yi, this forest is mostly destroyed too. The storm’s destruction is too strong," Lu Ke said, looking at the mountains of exposed soil, bare as if a bald head had been shaved cleanly, hiding nothing.
"It’s truly terrifying. Su Yan’s camp is no longer viable. There’s hardly any forest left there," Xu Yi pointed out.
Down below, there was a green lake, the former camp of Su Yan and Yun Qing.
Now, hardly any green vegetation was visible, with everything in the color of black soil.
No forest meant no animals, no plants.
Naturally, that made it impossible to survive there.
This outcome was something Xu Yi and Lu Ke had not anticipated.
They assumed that since their camp and Lu Yao’s camp were by the sea, they faced severe disaster conditions. They hadn’t thought that even areas that far away were not spared, with the forest completely destroyed.
Looking at the ravaged landscape, Xu Yi once again felt the terror of the storm from the previous day.
If not for the trench, they would certainly have been eliminated without any suspense.
"Let’s take a break and then we’ll go see what’s on top of the mountain," Xu Yi suggested, placing down the clay jar and sitting under a large tree.
Since Su Yan and Yun Qing’s camp was no longer usable, they could only find another place to set up a new camp.
Xu Yi couldn’t believe that the storm had ravaged every place on the island.
If everything was destroyed, not many animals on the island would have survived. The challenge naturally couldn’t continue on this island.
Still, Xu Yi considered that if the organizers could transport them to this island, they should also be able to transport them to other places.
With this in mind, Xu Yi stopped worrying.
After all, as long as the challenge could go on, it was fine.
After a while, Wang Jin and Lu Yao arrived.
