Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 136: Should We Change Campgrounds
Xu Yi and Lu Ke still set off toward the right side of the camp, heading in that direction to avoid clashes with Wang Jin and Lu Yao.
Now hunting is not only for food but also for scoring, making competition fiercer.
Wang Jin and Lu Yao have also gone out, hoping to score points. Even though they don’t yet know what the points can be exchanged for.
But last time they completed a task and got an axe, indicating that the organizers are probably not stingy. So they feel they need to gather more points to exchange for the supplies they need.
What if they end up needing these supplies to save their lives in the future?
"Sis, do you think Xu Yi and the others will come over to our side of the camp?" Wang Jin asked as she took aim at a distant tree with the military slingshot Lu Yao gave her, practicing her accuracy by shooting a stone.
"Probably not, they must have headed in another direction. Our patch of woods is too small, Xu Yi isn’t likely to make such a misjudgment." Lu Yao had learned from Lu Ke yesterday that Xu Yi’s grandfather was an old hunter, and Xu Yi was also skilled in hunting.
So Lu Yao believed Xu Yi would have such a level of judgment.
"Then aren’t we going to get into Xu Yi and Lu Ke’s hunting area soon?" Wang Jin thought, the jungle area between the two camps wasn’t very large, and it might take two or three days to search it thoroughly.
"We might enter their area in a few days, but they should be going to other areas to hunt. So we have to find a way to go elsewhere too. Otherwise, once these areas are cleared, we won’t catch anything." Lu Yao said with some frustration, after all, she chose the camp, not knowing it would be so close to Xu Yi’s camp, and even more surprised when the organizers suddenly issued tasks.
"Aren’t we going to have to relocate our camp then?" Wang Jin frowned, considering Xu Yi’s hunting skills seemed stronger than theirs. If Xu Yi and his group cleared the area, would they still find prey?
"That would be best, but we can’t guarantee that a new camp won’t already be someone else’s territory. The best solution is to camp anywhere, wherever we go." Lu Yao would choose this approach if she were alone. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
With this approach, they would definitely catch more prey. However, it wouldn’t be possible to store much dried food, and a lot of meat would go to waste.
Bringing Wang Jin along makes this approach much harder.
"Wouldn’t that be too dangerous? What if we encounter a large wolf pack or a black bear at night; we’d be in trouble." Wang Jin thought it was fine to go anywhere during the day, but too dangerous at night.
Encountering a beast could be fatal.
"We’ll decide then. Let me clear out the nearby prey first. Once someone collects 100 points, and we find out what supplies can be exchanged, we can make a new plan." With that, Lu Yao fell silent.
After all, hunting requires silence.
"My cousin really dares to think, moving wherever and hunting wherever, only three groups are doing that right now. But those three groups often come up empty-handed too."
"I think taking Wanzi makes it too difficult to do this."
"With enough food, what more supplies do we need? Without a camp, nights are too dangerous; we’d have to take turns on watch and couldn’t rest well at all."
"Water is a big issue; those three groups often lack water and have started considering a fixed camp."
"This island is big, and over 300 groups are quite scattered. It’s hard to say if it was lucky or unlucky their camp ended up this close to Xu Yi’s camp."
"We really need to change camps. If points affect future survival challenges, we must relocate."
"Why don’t Lu Ke and Xu Yi move instead?"
"This morning is really lively; all the groups have set out."
"Let’s place bets, see which group gets prey first and scores points first."
"Look, a goat, Wanzi spotted a goat."
"My cousin strikes hard, but the bow’s not powerful enough."
"What a pity, the arrow didn’t pierce through. Otherwise, the goat would be theirs. Now it’s gone."
All groups are searching for prey.
Xu Yi and Lu Ke are doing the same, looking for prey.
"Xu Yi, can you really smell anything?" Lu Ke followed behind Xu Yi into a dense forest.
"I can smell something. This animal has quite a strong scent." Xu Yi responded, feeling he was getting closer to the animal.
Lu Ke sniffed hard, shook her head, she could only smell decaying leaves, nothing else.
The two of them continued through the woods for another ten minutes before Xu Yi signaled a pause.
Then Xu Yi motioned to Lu Ke to stay where she was.
Lu Ke understood the gesture, nodded, and raised her crossbow.
Xu Yi stealthily walked forward a few more steps and drew his hunting bow.
Taking a deep breath, Xu Yi aimed at a prey about ten meters away.
It was an animal resembling a goat, its fur was black, and its teeth were very sharp. It was gnawing at a tree, having chewed deep into the trunk; it looked like it would fall soon.
"Whoosh!"
Xu Yi suddenly released an arrow.
The arrow flew out and plunged directly into the animal’s body.
After his archery skills improved, Xu Yi’s accuracy was significantly better.
The animal let out a wail and charged towards Xu Yi.
Xu Yi was surprised to see this.
Normally, animals would run away when hit, but this unknown animal charged at him as if it wanted to fight him.
By then, Xu Yi had already nocked another arrow and shot it.
This arrow missed its target.
However, it hit the animal in one of its eyes.
Without any suspense, the animal collapsed. After all, the arrow’s damage was too severe.
"Impressive." Lu Ke admired as she witnessed it, then walked over to Xu Yi.
"Hunted a Tree Sheep, earned 2 points."
A voice echoed in Xu Yi’s mind.
"Only two points?" Xu Yi grimaced, not expecting the points to be this low.
"Did you get points?" Lu Ke asked, hearing Xu Yi’s words. She received no alert.
"Yeah, 2 points." Xu Yi said, squatting down to pull the arrow out of the tree sheep’s body.
