Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Tree-Climbing Techniques

Lu Ke nodded, then happily carried the rabbit out of the enclosure and went to slaughter it.

Breakfast can wait, but the rabbit must be killed clean first.

After Xu Yi finished washing up, he sat down at the table to eat jerky. He hoped to have some gains from today’s hunting trip.

After breakfast, Xu Yi packed his knapsack and bag, filled them with some cool boiled water.

Equipped with a Hunting Bow and a machete, Xu Yi left home and entered the jungle.

Shortly after entering the jungle, a light rain started to fall.

To Xu Yi, this light rain didn’t pose much of an issue.

However, for Group 102, the rain felt heavier. After all, the island was vast; some areas experienced heavy rain, some had light rain, and others had no rain at all.

They had already located two Black Scale Lions and started digging traps nearby.

Heavy rain was not friendly to their traps at all.

If the traps were filled with water, they would just become puddles, rendering them useless against the Black Scale Lions.

So, they paused their trap-setting, climbed a tree to a high point to rest, and ate breakfast.

To complete this task, the two had brought quite a lot of jerky.

Although Group 102 had a Hunting Bow, they did not rashly take on the Black Scale Lions.

After all, they knew nothing about these creatures, which were native to this planet.

They had no clear understanding of their Defense Power or attack power.

If they launched a hasty attack, they might end up as food for the two Black Scale Lions, just like Group 34.

Fortunately, the rain didn’t last long.

Around 11 o’clock, the rain stopped.

The two members of Group 102 observed from the tree for a while and, seeing that most of the water in their traps had drained, climbed down to continue digging.

The two Black Scale Lions were both quite large, so they needed to dig the traps big and deep enough.

Naturally, this required more time.

However, they felt that traps were the most suitable solution.

Even if they couldn’t kill the Black Lions, they could at least trap them and kill them slowly.

While Group 102 was digging traps, Xu Yi had already returned with a basket full of Clover.

That morning, Xu Yi encountered a herd of running wild deer, seemingly startled by something and running for their lives.

Xu Yi chased them for a while but couldn’t catch up. In the end, he had to give up.

After gathering a basket of Clover, Xu Yi waited quietly for a bit and then headed back to camp around 11 o’clock.

On the way back, Xu Yi stopped by a lychee tree.

The recent continuous rain had caused many lychees to fall and rot on the ground.

So, Xu Yi picked the remaining lychees.

"Xu Yi’s tree-climbing skills have improved significantly. Last time, he seemed quite awkward at it."

"Yeah, he’s so agile, like a monkey."

"Impressive indeed. He picked all the lychees. I thought he might need to cut down the tree."

"He hasn’t had any other training. How did he become so skilled so quickly? It’s surprising."

"Maybe Xu Yi did it on purpose last time. After all, with so many lychees on the tree, he could pick any."

"Doesn’t seem like it. He was slipping off the tree last time."

"People can tell if someone’s proficient or not. The difference in performance is quite stark. There’s footage; you can compare."

"Xu Yi grew up in the mountains, so being good at climbing trees should be normal."

Little did they know that Xu Yi’s tree-climbing prowess was due to a Basic Gift Package of climbing skills. Otherwise, how could he climb so deftly?

After picking all the lychees, it was already 12 o’clock, so Xu Yi hurried towards the camp.

Half an hour later, Xu Yi appeared near the camp.

Xu Yi spotted a large porcupine near his camp and couldn’t help but feel delighted.

He didn’t expect to find a porcupine here, and a sizable one at that.

Without a word, Xu Yi quickly drew his bow and arrow.

An arrow shot out but was immediately deflected.

However, Xu Yi didn’t give up and drew his bow again.

This time, the porcupine wasn’t so lucky. Xu Yi’s arrow pierced straight through its body.

After it was skewered, Xu Yi ran over and picked up the porcupine by its tail.

"What a fellow, not small, indeed," Xu Yi remarked as he lifted the porcupine, estimating it to weigh about four or five pounds.

"Xu Yi, what game did you catch?" Lu Ke asked, opening the door upon hearing Xu Yi outside.

"A porcupine," Xu Yi replied, lifting it to show Lu Ke, then headed towards the yard.

"So that’s what they look like. It’s my first time seeing one," Lu Ke said, surprised at the sight of the porcupine in Xu Yi’s hand.

"This one was right outside our camp, practically delivered to us as a treat," Xu Yi, who’d eaten porcupine before, didn’t expect to have the chance here.

"Come eat. We’ll try it for dinner," Lu Ke said happily, having heard that porcupine is quite tasty.

"Had I known there was a porcupine, I would have let the rabbit live a few more days," Xu Yi chuckled, handing the porcupine to Lu Ke and taking off his full basket from his back.

"Yeah, but it’s already been turned into a pot of stew," Lu Ke said, sticking out her tongue.

Xu Yi washed his face and then came over to eat.

On the table were two steaming bowls of rabbit soup, looking very tempting.

Xu Yi, starving, sat down and started eating.

After eating a few pieces of meat, Xu Yi glanced at Lu Ke and asked, "Wang Jin and the others haven’t come by, have they?"

Lu Ke shook her head, saying, "No, I guess they haven’t found their target yet."

"They don’t have much time left. I wonder if they’ll get a chance to complete the task," Xu Yi said while eating.

"Xu Yi, if they don’t complete the task and hold out for 100 days, would you consider teaming up with them?" Lu Ke asked, looking at Xu Yi.

"If they manage to survive for 100 days without tools, I’d indeed consider it. I have this feeling survival will become more difficult. Surviving 100 days without tools indicates considerable skill," Xu Yi replied, taking a sip of soup and continued, "However, I don’t think they can survive 100 days after losing their tools; it’s too tough."

Not only Wang Jin and Lu Yao, but Xu Yi also knew that if he and Lu Ke lost all their tools, surviving would be extremely difficult.
