Little Miss Fortune: I Will Bring Prosperity to My Tang Family!-Chapter 118: Fried Bean Pulp Cakes
Chapter 112
Fried Bean Pulp Cakes
Xiaolin ate so much rad na that her belly looked like she had swallowed a whole coconut. The three boys were also sporting small bellies. In high spirits, Xiaolin began to wiggle and dance. With three companions today, she felt it was the perfect opportunity to break the ice and get them comfortable.
"Come here quickly!" Xiaolin beckoned the three boys with a vigorous wave.
"What’s up?" Long Licheng asked, watching the plump girl preparing something.
"Don’t ask, just come here,"
The three boys exchanged puzzled glances but got up and walked over to Xiaolin, who positioned them exactly where she wanted. She then stood in the center in front of them, beaming with a wide smile that made her cheeks plump up. Seeing this, the uncles lounging nearby hurriedly found spots to watch, knowing their niece was about to put on a show.
"Follow my dance moves!" Xiaolin turned back and smiled at the boys, who looked at each other nervously.
"D...Dance? What kind of dance?" Zhou Minglu asked, clearly confused, but the plump girl didn’t explain.
Standing tall with her belly out and hands behind her back, Xiaolin counted from one to eight loudly, while the uncles clapped and cheered with excitement.
"Follow me, now start!"
"Zoo, Zoo, Za, Za, Patanka, Patankee Zoo, Zoo, Zee, Zee, Patankee, Patanka!"
"Xiaolin Zoo-Za! Big brothers sexy! Uncles so good, sexy zoo-za!"
The three boys blushed as they watched the chubby girl jump and dance with gusto, imagining themselves doing the same dance made their faces burn with embarrassment. Xiaolin continued dancing and singing energetically while her uncles clapped along. After finishing the first round, she was about to start the second but noticed the silence from behind. Turning around, she saw the three boys standing pale and stiff.
"Dance. There’s no high society here that you need to mingle with. It’s just us ordinary folks who aren’t too strict about formalities. Don’t be shy, just have fun,"
"Yes, yes, go ahead, my little one,"
"Dance more, my dear,"
"I’ve been waiting for this, Xiaolin,"
Ignoring the three young men, Xiaolin resumed her dancing, shaking her hips and belly with enthusiasm. Her whole body wobbled with every move, from her cheeks to her belly to her bottom. After dancing for a while, her cheeks began to flush, which only added to her cuteness in the eyes of her gluttonous uncles, making them wish they could take her home right then and there.
"Fill the water jarrrr, fill it to the brim, and we’ll all be refreshed,"
Under the pressure from the enthusiastic uncles, the three young men reluctantly joined in, their awkward movements mirroring Xiaolin. Zhou Mingwang, being a naturally playful boy, soon found himself enjoying the dance, jumping into the rhythm with his little sister.
Laughter and shouts of encouragement from the uncles filled the air. With Zhou Minglu and Long Licheng finally joining in, they all shared the fun, even if initially out of embarrassment.
That evening, the three young men returned to the city with pale faces. Eventually, they danced with the little girl and began to have fun with her. However, after they were done, they felt so embarrassed they didn’t know if they’d be bold enough
Especially for Long Licheng, who had been raised in a prominent family, learning the manners and poise of a young gentleman from a young age, dancing wildly like that made him feel particularly self-conscious. They weren’t sure how they’d face Xiaolin the next day, their dignity feeling slightly bruised.
Upon returning home, the little girl that the three boys were thinking of took a bath to freshen up. She then flopped down next to her younger brother, who was laughing heartily while playing with the chubby cat, Xiao Hui.
"You little bundle of joy, laughing so much you might end up sleep-talking in the middle of the night," Xiaolin teased, scratching her baby brother’s white belly, causing him to wriggle and laugh even louder.
"Ah! Ah!" The baby boy tried to grab his sister’s hand to put it in his mouth.
"You can’t eat my hand, but you can eat your tummy! Nom nom nom!" Xiaolin pretended to bite his white belly, making him laugh hysterically.
"Eee! Ahh!"
"You sure are loud when playing with your sister," Hui Ning, who had just returned from her bath, teased her son as she walked through the hall.
"Mother, if you dress like that, Father will send Xiao Yu to sleep with Grandma again," Xiaolin said mischievously, eyeing her mother’s plump figure, making Hui Ning blush.
"You cheeky little girl! Just you wait!" Hui Ning snapped playfully, turning away and disappearing into her room, leaving Xiaolin to giggle and play with her brother in the hall.
At this time, Xiaolin’s grandmother was busy cooking in the kitchen, while her grandfather and father were hauling sweet potatoes into the old house with the help of her Uncle Weng Shui. Without additional help, it would take them all night to store the numerous sacks of sweet potatoes.
"Uncle, please soak some soybeans for me. We’re starting the tofu skin tomorrow,"
Xiaolin asked, nudging her uncle who was lying on a wooden platform at the back of the house, practically inviting mosquitoes.
Tianchen opened his eyes, saw his niece standing at his feet, and sat up, pinching her chubby cheeks playfully, causing her to squeal in protest.
"How much do you need soaked?"
"Thirty jin, please. And tomorrow, could you order thirty sacks of soybeans for me too?" she said, thinking for a moment. Each sack weighed about fifty jin, so ordering in bulk would ensure they had enough both for selling and for planting in the spring if needed.
"Sure, come here and let me give you a kiss first," Tianchen said, grabbing his niece, who wriggled to escape, pushing her uncle’s puckered lips away.
"You haven’t washed! I don’t want your kisses! Uncleee!" Xiaolin exerted all of her strength to push her uncle’s face away.
Their playful commotion went on for a while until Zhang Ruo came out to see what was happening. She saw Tianchen trying to smother her granddaughter with kisses, leaving Xiaolin’s white cheeks wet.
"Watch it. What are you two uncle and niece making such a ruckus at this hour?"
Zhang Ruo stood with her hands on her hips, looking stern. Tianchen quickly released his niece and laughed awkwardly, while Xiaolin ran to cling to her grandmother’s waist, using her sleeve to wipe her now-red cheeks.
Tianchen, feeling the pressure from Zhang Ruo’s intense gaze, quickly dashed into the storage room. Meanwhile, Xiaolin followed her grandmother into the kitchen, her little steps trailing behind. When Zhang Ruo wasn’t looking, Xiaolin sneakily grabbed a piece of fried squid and bit into it with relish.
Later that night, Tianchen, who was deep in a pleasant dream, suddenly felt as if a fat pig was jumping on him, making it hard for him to breathe. The vision of numerous dishes was replaced by dozens of chubby pigs running towards him and jumping on him.
The young man tried to call for help, but no one came to his aid. Terrified, he started to mumble in his sleep. Meanwhile, the little white piglet, who was actually Xiaolin, tried her best to stifle her laughter before rolling over to lie beside her uncle.
The next morning, Xiaolin woke up and informed her grandmother that the three young masters wanted to eat Khao Maan Gai before returning to the capital. Zhang Ruo then instructed her husband and son-in-law to butcher three plump chickens.
At this time, the wild chickens that Xiaolin had raised were almost as big as coconuts with legs. They were well-fed and rarely exerted themselves. Additionally, there were now dozens of newly hatched chicks that chirped and followed their mothers around all day.
Xiaolin munched on her breakfast, filling her belly with energy because she planned to have the three young men help make tofu skin today. Not only did she intend to put them to work, but she also wanted to give them some to take back and cook in the capital.
For the two Zhou brothers, cooking at the academy might be a bit challenging, but for Young Master Long, who had a home in the capital, it would be easier to prepare meals. She intended to give them dried squid, pickled vegetables, and various noodles as well.
While thinking about what to do, she kept stuffing various dishes into her mouth until her cheeks were about to burst. She particularly enjoyed the stir-fried mixed vegetables with chewy glass noodles, the silky steamed egg that barely needed chewing, and her favorite seaweed soup. There was also spicy stir-fried pork with pickled mustard greens and dried squid soup that her uncle couldn’t stop slurping until the pot was nearly empty.
The little round girl bustled around, gathering items to pack, causing Hui Ning to help her pack everything into cloth bags and boxes. The large box was for the Zhou brothers, while the smaller box was for Young Master Long, each receiving a small jar of pickled wild onions as well.
Xiaolin stood with her hands on her hips, panting as she surveyed the packed items, nodding in satisfaction that everything seemed to be ready.
"Who are you preparing all these gifts for, my dear?" Hui Ning asked, pulling her soft, chubby daughter into a hug. Her daughter was so cuddly that she wanted to nibble on her to her heart’s content.
"For Young Master Zhou and Young Master Long, mother. They are returning to the capital," Xiaolin replied, hugging her mother’s waist, her round face nestled against her mother’s soft chest, seeking affection.
"And this time, you won’t cry, will you, hm, my little rascal?" Hui Ning teased her daughter. The chubby girl giggled and shook her head.
"We’ll only be apart for a little while, Mother. When the time comes, we’ll see each other again. If they don’t come back to Jiangnan, I’ll go visit them in the capital," Xiaolin declared with determination, her face serious. Hui Ning, who was patting her daughter’s head, couldn’t help but laugh.
"In that case, how about waiting until you grow up first?"
"Alright, Mother. I’ll trade and become the richest in the kingdom. After that, I’ll let you and Father travel and enjoy life. I’ll take care of my brother and manage the business myself."
"Is that so, my dear? Our family business is already quite large. Don’t make yourself too tired," Hui Ning said, giving her daughter’s soft cheek a big kiss.
The mother and daughter chatted for a while until the other chubby child, who was still sleeping late, started crying loudly, prompting Hui Ning to rush to check on him. Xiaolin then walked to the noodle factory, where a small area was set aside for her uncles Wei and Yong, who were grinding soybeans since early morning. The little round girl checked the container of soybeans, which had about three jin left to grind.
"After this, strain out the water, Uncle. Then put it in the pot on the stove," Xiaolin instructed.
"Got it. You should go play outside. It’s hot here with all the stoves," the elderly man told the little girl with concern. Xiaolin walked out of the factory and went to find Xiao Zhong, who was lazing under a tree as usual. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Ever since Xiao Zhong returned from his trip to the city, Xiao Bai had refused to come and play with him. It seemed the little one was upset that Xiao Zhong had left him at home with Xiao Xue and the young cow.
"Xiao Bai," Xiaolin called to the fluffy white calf that was grazing nearby.
Moo~
Xiao Bai jumped around cheerfully before coming over to nuzzle its little owner. Xiaolin giggled, petting and scratching the affectionate calf. Xiao Zhong, hearing the noise, glanced over before lazily going back to chewing grass.
"Xiao Bai, my little one, let’s go for a walk."
Mooo
The chubby white child and the fluffy white calf strolled around the backyard. Sometimes Xiaolin would start running, prompting Xiao Bai to leap and run after her. Xiaolin’s bright laughter brought a smile to Hui Ning’s face as she carried her chubby, rosy-cheeked son outside to watch.
"Xiaolin, dear! The three young gentlemen are here to see you," Hui Ning called out to her niece who was running around with Xiao Bai.
"Yes, Mother! Come on, Xiao Bai," Xiaolin said, beckoning the calf as she headed back to the house. Xiao Bai obediently followed, nuzzling Hui Ning’s leg when they arrived.
Xiao Bai nuzzled Hui Ning’s leg, making her laugh before she reached down to pet it. The calf then gently nudged Tianyi, making him laugh too. The baby tried to grab the fluffy calf, but Hui Ning decided he was still too young to play with it. She would let him interact with Xiao Bai when he was older.
Xiaolin ran to the front of the house, cheeks bouncing, to greet the three young gentlemen who were dressed and ready for the hard work she had planned. She greeted them cheerfully, now even calling Long Licheng "Big Brother Cheng," which made the young man stand still for a moment, blinking at the chubby girl pulling Zhou Mingwang towards the backyard.
"Today, the task for you all is!...to make fried soybean dregs cakes," Xiaolin announced, leading the way. "I originally planned for you to make tofu skin, but it requires standing by the hot stove for a long time, so we’ll make cakes instead."
"Fried soybean dregs cakes? What are they, and are they tasty?" Zhou Mingwang asked, eyes shining with interest.
"They’re delicious! They’re made from soybean dregs. Let’s go get the soybean dregs,"
Xiaolin said, leading the three boys to the factory. She had the two biggest boys lift the bucket of soybean dregs and also got half a small bucket of soy milk from her uncles. The cakes had to be eaten with hot soy milk to be truly delicious.
"It doesn’t look very appetizing," Long Licheng commented, eyeing the squeezed soybean dregs. To him, it looked more like animal feed than human food.
"Don’t underestimate it," Xiaolin chided. "Now, I’ll go get the seasonings and other ingredients."
The chubby girl disappeared into the kitchen and came back with sugar and salt, then went back to bring out a small jar of pickled mustard greens. The three boys, realizing it would take forever if they waited for her to do it all herself, followed her into the kitchen to help carry the rest of the ingredients.
Once everything was ready, Xiaolin instructed the Zhou brothers to scoop the soybean dregs into a large wooden basin, then crack several eggs into it according to the amount of dregs. She seasoned it with a little salt and sugar, finely chopped pickled mustard greens for extra flavor, and chopped green onions for color. The mixture was then thoroughly combined.
The chubby girl led Long Licheng to fetch a small stove and two pans from the kitchen. She set up the stoves, heating oil in one pan and soy milk in the other stove, ready to add sugar to taste.
The Zhou brothers were busy shaping the soybean dregs mixture into small round patties about the thickness of a pinky finger, ensuring they weren’t too thick or too thin. As the oil heated, they began frying the patties. The three young men hovered around the stove, only to jump back as hot oil splattered. Meanwhile, the little piglet chef expertly flipped the patties, having perfected her skills with Grandma Samphao over the years.
"Bring a plate quickly!" Xiaolin called as the patties turned a beautiful golden brown, ready to eat.
The three young men hurriedly found a plate for the fried patties, then stood waiting eagerly. The first batch yielded three patties, which Xiaolin let the young men take to the bamboo platform to sit and watch over. She then ladled the hot soy milk into small bowls with saucers because it was very hot, sweetened it with sugar, and brought it to the eager trio, who watched the patties as if they might fly into their mouths.
"Here you go! Try it!"
