Lingering Passion: Mr. Sutton Wants to be Your Male Lead!-Chapter 172: Won’t Shed a Tear Until Seeing the Coffin
Ms. Dunn’s words made the air freeze for a few seconds.
Stella Grant clenched her phone tightly, forcing herself to stay calm, but her voice still involuntarily quivered slightly, "How is my mom now?"
Ms. Dunn replied, "I don’t know either, she’s in the emergency room."
Stella, "Okay, I understand, I’ll head back right away."
Ms. Dunn hummed in response, worried that her emotions might make driving unsafe, and before hanging up she reminded, "Drive safe, there, there shouldn’t be a problem."
Shouldn’t be.
Because she couldn’t be sure.
Having worked in the hospital for many years, Ms. Dunn had seen too many life-and-death separations.
One moment the person is lively and talking, the next they’re down and in the emergency room, never to come out again.
Hearing the implication in Ms. Dunn’s words, Stella responded sharply, "Okay, I know."
After hanging up with Ms. Dunn, Stella didn’t dare delay for a moment, hurriedly telling Silas Sutton she needed to go to Brynnfield, then turned to go upstairs to change clothes.
By the time she finished changing and came downstairs, she saw Silas standing at the doorway holding car keys.
Their eyes met, and Silas spoke first, "I’ll drive you."
Stella lifted her lips, intending to say it wasn’t necessary, but before she could, Silas spoke again in a deep voice, "Your car is at the restaurant parking lot from last night, and right now is the rush hour; getting a taxi from here to the restaurant would take at least an hour and a half, which is already enough time for you to get back to Brynnfield."
Stella looked into his eyes, weighing the pros and cons, her red lips moved, "Thank you."
On the road from Veridia to Brynnfield, neither of them spoke.
Stella appeared calm, but every cell in her body was tense.
Silas focused on the road, driving the car, and once on the highway, he took an unopened bottle of mineral water from the car’s drawer and handed it to Stella.
Stella thought it was for him, so she unscrewed the cap, raised her hand to give it to him, only to hear him say in a low voice, "Drink it."
Stella, "I’m not thirsty."
Silas, "Don’t argue."
Stella inhaled, "..."
After Silas said not to argue, Stella pursed her lips, picked up the bottle, and took a sip of water. The cool mineral water quelled some of the impatience in her heart.
The rest of the way, Silas didn’t speak again, but subtly increased the car’s speed within the safe driving range.
An hour later, they arrived at Brynnfield Hospital.
Silas needed to find a parking spot, he stopped the car and gestured for Stella to get out first, "You go to the inpatient department first, I’ll park and come find you."
Stella, "Alright."
With that, Stella opened the door and got out. As soon as she stepped one foot out, she turned back.
Seeing her turn back, Silas assumed something was wrong, frowning unconsciously, "What is it?"
Stella’s eyes were indifferent, "Thank you."
Silas half expected the thanks, but also found it unexpected.
A mischievous smile appeared on Silas’s otherwise serious face, "Stella, I don’t want to flirt with you in such a tense and oppressive atmosphere; it would seem inappropriate."
After Silas spoke, the response he got was a ’bang’ of the car door closing.
Silas chuckled lowly, resting his fingertips on his jaw, then turned the steering wheel to find a parking space.
Stella, in high heels, walked through the outpatient department and into the inpatient department, took the elevator upstairs, and as soon as she stepped off, she heard two familiar voices in the hallway.
"Mom, do you think my aunt will be alright?"
Lily Harrison, feeling guilty, "How would I know?"
"What if she dies? That Stella is a madwoman, if my aunt really has an accident..."
Elliot Adler’s words were cut off by Lily’s scolding, "Don’t speak such ominous words, she’s not that weak, she didn’t die when The Grant Corporation went bankrupt, there’s no way she could just die now..."
Lily said so, but she was actually more scared than anyone inside.
Just like Elliot said, Stella is a madwoman; if Lynn really has an accident, with her temper, she would cause a huge commotion.
The mother and son were engrossed in their conversation, neither noticing Stella who had just stepped off the elevator and was walking towards them.
Elliot, with his back to Stella, unknowingly blocked Lily’s view. He glanced towards the operating room, lowered his voice, and asked, "Mom, what did you say to my aunt? Why did she suddenly collapse and end up in the emergency room?"
Lily smirked, a casual tone, "I mentioned your uncle who ran off with money, ha, you have no idea how pathetic your aunt is, waiting for your uncle all these years, unaware that he already has a family elsewhere, he..."
Before Lily could finish, a figure flashed by, and before she could react, a crisp ’slap’ echoed as a hand landed on her face.
Lily was momentarily stunned, frozen in place, while Stella looked down at her, her eyes filled with chilling coldness, "You won’t cry until you see the coffin, is that it?"
