Limitless The Strongest Revenant-Chapter 979: I am 2/2]
As Zanele's explanation made sense, I held my tongue. The ability to pass tons of crap via biology was something even humans and animals did. I remember that a single cum shot had terabytes of genetic information. It wouldn't be surprising if Reapers did the same.
We could pass a large amount of information to each other with bodily fluids: {Fates} and how to use them. Everything from blood, saliva, to cum. Based on her explanation, does that mean that someone used the fluids of the Sins for that purpose?
Assuming that the legacy was the life or a snippet of the life my past incarnations had, it makes sense. Reapers were old as fuck; they predated machines, probably even letters and scrolls. But they still needed another way to deliver information.
Something that would never break down, no matter how many years passed.

'So, they just used another reaper.'
I remember the downloads I had when I took the Siren's {Fates} for the first time. If the amount of stuff to be passed was even greater, then it would explain it. If there was a limit to the amount of data that could be passed with a single kiss, just have more.
Rather than pass everything in a single instance, kisses would transfer saliva. Also, sweat from perspiration and vaginal fluids would do so as well. Living USBs were an apt way to put it. A single night of passionate lovemaking would definitely be enough for multiple exchanges.
'But didn't the Sins also change afterwards? Did they also receive something from the Successors?'
At that point, something then clicked in my mind. Of the Seven, I never had issues receiving any. But the inverse was not the same. Two of the Sirens acted violently to receiving {Rewind}.
Bella, who went apeshit, and Lilly, who commented on how overbearing my {Fate} was.
"WHO ARE YOU? TELL ME WHO YOU REALLY ARE BEFORE I KILL YOU!" I could still remember how Bella was convinced I was a sleeper agent for Trinity. She body-slammed me and almost tried to murder me.
"What a ridiculous {Fate}. Now I understand how you were able to charm so many. A lesser woman would have died from such a burden. What in the world did you regret so much for {Rewind} to be born, Dearest?"
"…"
Fuck, we did. We passed on something. Although I am not sure what. But somehow this entire thing began to make sense. If I needed a way to deliver a crap ton of shit to a Successor, I had to make sure that he would never ignore my messages.
'So, the fastest way is to use his heart and dick.'
Oblivious to my musings, Zanele continued.
"Whoever designed this process must ensure the Successors retrieve the legacy in full. They enforced this by placing a curse on both parties. Like pheromones among animals, the Successor and his Sins would be irresistibly drawn to each other.
"Unfortunately, the curse is not permanent. After consummating their love, the curse lifts. This is why the affection and attraction between the two parties suddenly disappear. The curse has a goal, and it will lift the moment it fulfills its objective."
"Then are you saying that Dearest and all of us are under this curse? That our feelings are fake? That is just fucking bullshit! I have never heard anything so wrong in my entire life!"
Everyone grew stiff upon hearing our Princess curse vulgarly. This was quite possibly the first time I even heard Lilly say "fuck." Even when we made love, she always used relatively graceful insults.
"I agree. Beloved is willing to take on even an entire continent for my sake. How can that be anything but true love? This emotion in my chest. It makes me feel so alive and blissful. And you are telling me it's but a byproduct of a curse? Such a claim is insane!"
"Darling accepted me for all of me. No matter how messed up I am. What kind of fucking curse would even work in such a manner?! He loves me, you fucking piece of shit! He said so himself! This is not real! This can't be real!"
"You are wrong, Zanele; our destiny is to be together," Jasmine said with cold eyes.
"Even if it is somehow a curse, human beings cannot be forced to act in such a manner. We even have Aki's {Digest}. And Jas's {Insight}! If there were a curse, we would know it! I am fine with you doubting anything else, but my love for Honey is real!"
Aki said nothing and nuzzled her face into my arms.
Zanele then raised her arms as she tried to get the girls under control.
"My ladies, this is why I didn't even want to discuss this further. I am not saying any of this to spite you. But I originally thought you were a group that deviated from what I knew. But the Successor's answer a while ago cleared my doubts.
"You all cannot keep your hands off each other because the curse that brought you together is still in place. I have said that the other five Successors worshiped their Sins, at least until the men claimed their legacies. When they did, their passion ended."
Hearing her words, I raised my hand, and the Sirens all piped down. For some reason, the footnote Blanche left kept repeating in my mind.
Hero Syndrome's lesson is to learn when to recognize that you are dancing to someone else's play.
Was that why the Sirens and I found each other and fell in love? Because it was part of someone's play? If that was true, just how much of what we felt was real? Would our love survive? Would any affection we had still persist after I opened those doors?
Unwilling to torment myself with such questions, I spoke out.
"Since you originally wanted to avoid the topic, it means you understood something. Tell me what it is, Zanele. Do so without hiding anything."
"Are you certain, Successor? From what I have seen, as you are now, nothing I say will awaken you from your infatuation with the Sirens."
"I am," I answered with a nod.
"Then I will now share my findings on what defines a Successor. Please try to keep an open mind as I explain. Much like for the Sins, you might find it incredibly uncomfortable to hear. Are you truly sure you want to learn this now?"
"…"
Taking my silence as my answer, Zanele took a deep breath before she continued.
"Successors much like the Sins all lead lives that are extremely similar. First, all of them led lives of mediocrity, failing to accomplish anything. They grew up devoid of love from their families and were betrayed by their first loves. But they all ascend in the same manner."
Hearing that the struggles I had to face in my life were summarized like that made me angry. But I still had to see this through. I had to know what this entire bullshit was.
"How," I asked, annoyed.
"They will see a Sin in peril. And upon saving her, the Successor will die and begin his life as a Reaper. He will then be given special blood. The blood of a Successor. I am unable to share how I know, but while many are planted, only those with courage and will are accepted."
"W-What?"
Her words immediately reminded me of how I died and became a Reaper.
"She did, boy. Because you took on seven men while unarmed, a young woman got to go home safe and sound. You weren't the only one who heard her screams, yet it was only you who moved to rescue her. If nothing else, your last act was that of a hero. You did well, boy."
"Like I said earlier, you were not supposed to die today, John Smith. The young woman should have. For giving your life for hers, I offer you a choice. Die right here and go to hell, or live on as a Reaper. What will it be?"
"Perfect. I will take that as a yes."
"See you on the other side, John. Welcome to the Revenant Project."
"Fuck…"
Somehow, I felt that what Zanele would say next would turn everything I knew on its head.
