Limitless Fortune: I Collect SSS-Rank Skills as Payment-Chapter 42: Hall Of Ascendance
Chapter 42: Hall Of Ascendance
Another reason the Genesis Rift dungeon was considered the best in the Edoria Kingdom was the sheer freedom it offered.
Unlike other novice dungeons, its trial was somewhat ordinary.
All a candidate had to do was reach the center of the forest by any means necessary.
And those methods? They directly corresponded to the class one wished to awaken.
In essence, it provided everyone with an indirect path to their preferred class.
Even better, if someone wasn’t satisfied with their result, they could
simply quit and attempt awakening in another dungeon without facing any penalties.
"I quit!"
To Lucien’s surprise, a few people actually raised their hands, although their expressions were painted with frustration and disappointment.
"I quit as well!" freewebnσvel.cѳm
The moment their hands went up, their bodies flickered and disappeared from the forest, likely transported back outside.
’So... all the dungeons are connected somehow?’
Lucien narrowed his eyes, watching the figures vanish one after another. Ever since the announcement, he had sensed something strange about these dungeons.
Not to mention the skills he was seeing from D-rank to SSS-rank, he had never even heard of those classifications in the outside world.
"Damn, Lucien, you are too much."
While Lucien was lost in thought, a figure lingered in the corner, face as dark as the bottom of a scorched pot.
Red eyes blazed beneath furrowed brows, burning with murderous intent that twisted his features into something barely human.
"Don’t think this is over," Hugo growled. "The Goldveil family is nothing compared to my Lionheart."
He gnashed his teeth, seething with hatred, though beneath it all, envy bled through as he stared at the vanishing figures.
He had already wasted his family’s dungeon slot to bring Bongo with him. Now, there was no alternative, and no other dungeon in the entire Edoria Kingdom could help him become a tamer.
"Just wait," he muttered, venom dripping from every word, his gaze locked onto Lucien.
He might not be able to touch him here... but that wouldn’t always be the case.
[One minute is over.]
[All eligible candidates will now be transferred to the Hall of Ascendance for the awakening.]
The spirit’s voice echoed once more. A strange force tugged at their bodies, and in the blink of an eye, the remaining candidates vanished.
They reappeared moments later inside the so-called Hall of Ascendance.
"Wow!"
"So beautiful!"
The moment all the candidates appeared, they exclaimed in surprise.
Not only them, but even Lucien and Liora reacted the same way as they looked at the place where they would awaken their class next.
The place they were in was a vast, cathedral-like chamber bathed in shifting starlight.
From the disappearing fog clearing the view around, Lucien already understood that it was the same place they had arrived at after entering the portal before.
It just wasn’t visible due to all the fog covering everything earlier.
In the center of the chamber lay a circular platform where they were standing, and right in the center stood runes pulsing beneath a floating crystal sphere radiating ancient energy.
Moreover, surrounding them were massive statues of long-forgotten heroes lined up neatly.
Each statue was holding something: a sword, a bow, or a grimoire in different attire. Just a glance and Lucien was sure that they represented different classes.
[Welcome to the Hall of Ascendance.]
[Congratulations! You are now eligible for class-awakening. All candidates are advised to touch the Awakening Crystal at the center one by one.]
The announcement from the spirit came again, urging them to touch the crystal.
"Lucien, look..."
Just after the announcement ended and everyone was ready to touch the crystal, Liora nudged Lucien, pointing to the side.
"Hmm?"
And when he looked, he saw that Princess Lilith, along with her entourage, was actually stepping down from the platform, heading to a corner.
Only now did Lucien see that nestled to one side of the grand chamber stood a second, more ornate altar, set apart by a delicate barrier of shimmering light.
Unlike the central platform’s floating crystal sphere, in its center rested a crystalline lotus, its petals slowly opening and closing as if breathing.
"It is an awakening altar," Liora said.
Then she turned to Lucien, her voice lowering slightly.
"Go with them. I heard there’s some benefit from that thing. You shouldn’t miss the chance given to you by your parents."
"Yeah, thank you. Best of luck!"
Lucien nodded to Liora, smiled at her, and then swiftly left the platform amidst the envy of the people around.
While Liora just looked at his leaving figure for a while, she then turned toward the center. She was also a little excited about her class awakening, just like everyone else.
...
"Why are you here?"
As soon as Lucien arrived near Lilith, Boros immediately jumped in between and coldly blocked his path. His eyes scanned Lucien with deep hatred.
He never thought this guy was so powerful. He managed to take down Hugo with just a punch.
Honestly, even he didn’t see how this guy managed to appear in front of Hugo so fast.
But the more Lucien showed potential, the more Boros felt he was dangerous. He would never allow such a person to get close to his Princess.
"None of your business!"
Lucien didn’t care what this stupid guy thought, though. He just replied coldly and crossed his arms, watching how Lilith would open the barrier.
"Heh... don’t think you’re a big shot just because you managed to defeat some random guy. If not for the Princess’s order, I’d show you what real strength looks like."
Boros scoffed as if he didn’t take Lucien seriously. He didn’t like his behavior one bit.
"Huh? Does Princess Lilith love me that much? Why didn’t I know this?"
Lucien said with sudden surprise, a teasing smile playing on his lips just enough to make Lilith’s eye twitch.
"You know what... I am truly honored to be loved by her. Why don’t you get out of the way so I can thank her?"
It was the first time Lucien had seen someone simping over a girl so much. So, he couldn’t help but smile and joke, making Boros look even uglier.
"You wish... that’s not what I meant. Don’t twist my words. And don’t even think about coming near Her Majesty."
Boros hurriedly stood in front of Lucien, taking out his long sword and making his presence known.
He didn’t even realize Lucien was playing with him, as his continuous childish behavior had already made Lilith unhappy.
"Boros, leave him alone. Don’t ruin my face over such small things."
Lilith’s patience was already running thin. Why was her subordinate so stupid?
She was really getting a headache. Not to mention, that weird smile Lucien gave her made her extremely uncomfortable.
"Don’t worry, Your Majesty. I am not ruining your face."
To her surprise though, this time Boros didn’t immediately accept her order. Instead, he tried to reassure Lilith, although his voice was laced with jealousy.
"This guy is weird and has an uncanny power. It’s better to be careful around him. Who knows what kind of motive he has against you, Your Majesty?"
He said, fixing his eyes on Lucien. He felt that if he showed concern about her safety, Lilith would probably understand him.
