Chapter 240: Calamity 9

.

The intensity and pressure of that energy were so overwhelming that even those far from the area felt a sharp chill run down their spines, instinctively backing away from the place.

The three emperors, fighting as a team, made sure that their Domains did not clash with one another. Instead, they manipulated them, weaving them together to launch a combined assault against the enemy’s Domain.

The combined force of the three Domains collided with the opponent’s expanding Domain, and the moment it happened, the environment shook violently. Wide, visible cracks spread all around, reaching farther and farther in every direction. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

The concentration of multiple, powerful Laws crashing down upon that section of the battlefield proved too oppressive for the environment itself. Space began to grow increasingly chaotic, giving rise to clear spatial fractures that opened and sealed themselves continuously and at random.

Many of them struck the surrounding territories, and several tore through the battlefield where the beasts clashed with the armies of the three empires. Those caught within them stood no chance, torn apart or swallowed whole by space itself at random across the battlefield.

They were far away, yet still suffered the repercussions of the battle between those four beings. That alone showed just how terrifying existences of the Spirit Realm were, especially those at advanced stages like them.

This was precisely why the powers of this realm were often called walking calamities, and also why, whenever a battle between Spirit Realm experts was about to erupt nearby, everyone would be evacuated from the area, exactly what the armies of the three empires had now decided to do.

After all, the last thing they wanted was to be torn apart, or worse, completely swallowed, by a spatial fracture that could appear out of nowhere.

Soon, the collision of forces gave rise to a single chaotic dome of clashing energies, spanning dozens upon dozens of kilometers, isolating the external environment from the internal one, an area that perfectly embodied the definition of chaotic space.

And within that place, the four resumed their battle.

This time, however, a change finally became visible.

The beast, for all its power and bizarre abilities, was beginning to lose ground. Forced to maintain its Domain while facing three opponents of equal level, it finally showed signs of faltering. It did not take long before the first truly fatal wound was dealt.

Thud.

With a heavy crash, the massive left arm of the beast, severed by the Dragon Emperor, who had seized an opening to tear it off, fell to the ground.

Still standing despite countless deep and shallow wounds, the beast let out a roar, its voice guttural and unsettling.

The sight brought a certain degree of satisfaction to the three emperors, but it was short-lived.

In the very next moment, another deafening roar echoed out, followed by a long, massive figure crashing down from the sky, slamming into the ground and shaking it violently.

It was the Dragon Emperor.

He lay on the ground, his body riddled with deep wounds, blood pouring freely from them. He was still breathing, but clearly in agony, struggling just to lift himself up.

Everything had happened so fast and so suddenly that the other two emperors only realized what had happened when their companion was already on the ground. They stared at him in horror, at wounds that hadn’t existed mere seconds earlier, and yet there he was, completely battered.

What had happened?

Was it the corrupted being?

No. Obviously not. How could it be?

It was right in front of them.

So what, then?

The answer came quickly, when the Human Emperor turned his gaze toward the creature’s shoulder.

They had already noticed a human figure seated there, calmly, for the entire time.

Someone who was no longer there.

Instead, he now stood high above, precisely where the Beast Emperor had been hovering moments earlier.

’When did he make his move?’ the Human Emperor wondered, a question that hung in all three of their minds.

They had noticed that man from the very beginning, and at first had even tried to communicate with him.

After all, it was clear he was connected to this enormous horde of corrupted beasts. The only conclusion they had reached back then was that he, too, was one of the corrupted, under the control of the source of that corruptive energy.

The man had merely glanced at them and smiled, saying nothing. It hadn’t pleased any of them, but they hadn’t had time to dwell on it, as the battle had begun immediately afterward.

From that point on, they had fought the creature while he remained seated on its shoulder the entire time.

He had stayed there as if glued in place, never moving, regardless of how dire the creature’s situation became.

It was as though he knew nothing would happen to him, and, in truth, the three had to admit that this was exactly the case. Even now, with the creature badly wounded, he remained in perfect condition.

That said, he was no longer standing aside.

He had joined the fight.

And his very first move had gone completely unnoticed by all of them, they only realized it after he had already struck his first target: the Beast Emperor.

The wounds he inflicted were anything but minor, and they were not healing easily.

Seeing this, the Elf Queen was forced to expend her energy to accelerate the healing process, yet even then, not all the wounds could be mended.

While she worked, the Human Emperor kept his eyes on the opponent. The man showed no concern for them; instead, he looked straight at him, his expression unreadable.

He gave him a brief glance before finally opening his mouth.

"I must say, compared to your predecessors, you are rather weak for your current stages," he said.

It was the first time he had spoken since the battle began, and none of the three liked what he said.

Even so, none of them let anger take over. Instead, they couldn’t help but notice the way he had referred to them, comparing them to their ancestors, most likely to the emperors who had come before them.

It was strange and suspicious for obvious reasons, but none of them had time to dwell on it. There were far more pressing matters at hand.

"I’ll admit you’re strong," Wu Tian said, "but for someone who’s stayed on the sidelines all this time, you surely have a lot to say. I don’t know who you are, but once I’m done with you, we’ll have all the time in the world to get to know each other better."

Without another word, he shot into the air, launching himself straight at the enemy.

He could tell that the other’s cultivation base was similar to theirs, and the man’s earlier action confirmed it. Even so, he had no intention of backing down. The beast was already badly wounded, and now the only variable left on the battlefield was this strange man.

Once they dealt with him, they would be able to take care of the remaining corrupted beasts, and perhaps finally make some progress in this expedition that, so far, had yielded more deaths than meaningful results.
