Limitless Cultivation: I Can Master Every Profession!-Chapter 237: Calamity 6
Chapter 237: Calamity 6
.
The soldiers tasked with protecting the small city, along with the cultivators who had already been present and those who had arrived as reinforcements, found themselves, at this moment, witnessing an unbelievable scene.
Just a few minutes earlier, all of them had been struggling against the enormous tide of beasts, steadily losing ground and lives.
They had almost begun to think this was the end, that there was very little hope against such an overwhelming number of beasts, at least not without someone powerful enough to decimate them with every strike.
Someone at the Spirit Realm.
Yet fate would have it that not only did they already have someone like that fighting alongside them, but that very person was battling the strongest being of the entire wave, an existence that, if left free to roam, would have wiped out their pitiful resistance with a mere snap of its fingers.
The realization that they were in an extremely precarious situation weighed heavily on the hearts of all the combatants, and coupled with the sight of their comrades dying only to be claimed by the enemy’s side, it certainly did nothing to ease their minds.
Hope was almost completely gone, and it felt as though it was only a matter of time before they too would be utterly overwhelmed.
But right at that moment, a powerful roar echoed through the surroundings, followed by a violent explosion within the vast mass of beasts.
It was sudden and unexpected, so much so that both sides were left confused and stunned for a brief instant.
The soldiers wondered what it could have been, because whatever it was, it had wiped out dozens of beasts with a single attack, something they were no longer capable of doing, their energies steadily running dry.
They all looked around, searching for answers, but the only thing they found was confusion painted on each other’s faces.
Then, in that moment, they saw a white figure streak through the air, surrounded by a powerful yellowish aura.
At first glance, it looked like an armed soldier, but upon closer inspection, several things immediately felt off:
its imposing stature, too tall; its pale complexion, not flesh, but something far more solid; and its solemn, unmoving expression, utterly devoid of emotion.
It did not take long before some of those present noticed the similarities with the statue at the center of the city, and soon a murmur of shock spread as they watched this suddenly appeared figure hurl itself into the midst of the beast horde, unleashing chaos everywhere with its halberd.
From its aura, they could tell it was at the peak of the Mortal Realm, but judging from its combat techniques, and the sheer brutality with which it was massacring an ever growing number of beasts, it left everyone stunned, freezing them in place for a moment as they tried to make sense of what they were seeing.
Their amazement, however, was short lived. The beasts, already mad and rampaging, paid them no heed and continued their assault.
Yet it was not long before another explosion rang out.
Then another.
Several in rapid succession, each one decimating enormous numbers of beasts.
Only then did the soldiers notice, once again, that high above the battlefield there was someone, or rather, not just one person this time, but many.
All of them different.
All of them imposing and tall.
All of them similar to the first.
And most importantly, all of them emanating powerful auras, close to the peak of the Mortal Realm.
The carnage these figures, which had appeared out of nowhere, created in such a short span of time left everyone beyond shocked, and more than once they wondered whether they were dreaming, or if all of this was truly real.
Just like the soldiers, the academy’s headmaster was experiencing something similar.
He had sensed the anomaly, as well as the arrival of all those figures, and it left him confused, as he had no idea who they could be.
It made him somewhat skeptical, especially since he did not know whether they were allies or enemies, but it did not take long before he could perceive what those figures were doing upon their arrival.
Needless to say, it was a pleasant surprise, though a brief one, as the being he was fighting appeared irritated by their arrival and, from what he could tell, was preparing to make a move.
Obviously, he could not allow that.
He wasted no time and launched himself into another attack, but unlike before, his strikes were futile and short lived.
The beast no longer seemed interested in playing with him as it had earlier, and with a single powerful blow, it sent him ten meters underground.
He had already suffered severe injuries from the previous exchange and had not fully recovered; with this final blow, even the little resistance he could still muster was stripped away.
He clenched his teeth as he felt pain surge through his entire body. His limbs no longer responded at this point, he was essentially knocked out, with almost no chance of standing back up, and it was already a miracle that he was still conscious.
That was the state the Spirit Realm cultivator had been reduced to, a state he had not found himself in for a very long time, especially since entering the Spirit Realm.
’To think I’d end up like this after just a few blows,’ he thought as he sensed the creature approaching, clearly intent on finishing what it had started.
The being was strong enough to overwhelm him in just a few attacks. It was clear its attention had already shifted to another prey, or rather, other preys, and that it had no intention of letting him live.
They say that when one faces death, their whole life flashes before them, the joyful moments and the painful ones, and in those moments, what hits the hardest are the regrets.
He didn’t know how much of that was true, but there was one thing he knew for certain.
He had a regret.
He regretted not being able to see his family one last time, not having spent more time with them when he could.
He closed his eyes and steeled his resolve.
He gathered the last scraps of his energy and circulated them within his dantian, giving birth to a chaotic vortex of pure Qi.
The vortex increased its rotation second by second, and along with it, its power continued to grow.
Soon, the pressure it exerted on the dantian became increasingly oppressive, so much so that the dantian itself began to show signs of strain, struggling to contain it.
It was clear what he intended to do.
He had decided to take that creature with him.
’Bastard... let’s see if you manage to come out of this in one piece,’ he thought, as his focus locked onto the being, now close enough to loom over him like a reminder of impending death.
But at that very instant,
something changed.
The chaos surrounding him seemed to come to an abrupt halt.
The wind died down.
The turbulent energies in the air froze, as if time itself had hesitated.
Even the vortex within his dantian faltered for a brief moment, its rotation slowing imperceptibly, as though disturbed by an alien presence.
His heart skipped a beat.
Then, a voice echoed from nowhere.
Calm.
Serene.
Devoid of any hostility, yet impossible to ignore.
"Looks like you two are having quite a bit of fun."
