Limitless Cultivation: I Can Master Every Profession!-Chapter 235: Calamity 4
Chapter 235: Calamity 4
.
The forest at the foot of Mount Chijing, vast and wide, if not ancient,
home to many beasts both powerful and weak, which for countless ages had maintained a certain presence in the Lushan province, had always endured its fair share of both natural and unnatural disasters.
The latest of these was the clash between two beings in the Spirit Realm, which had led to the devastation of several areas, both small and large, and even a few small mountains nearby.
After that followed the disaster of the secret realm, one that provoked the heavens on more than one occasion, and the one to suffer the damage was none other than the forest.
It had managed to withstand everything, for all this time, yet now things were changing.
The vast horde of beasts kept marching through the region, constantly slowed by the defensive forces but never fully stopped. After nearly a whole night of relentless fighting, the forest lay almost entirely overturned, burned, broken, and in many places razed to the ground.
In short, there was devastation everywhere, and the causes were none other than the two forces that continued their incessant battle, a battle that was already starting to show its victor.
Boom!
A powerful explosion resounded, followed by a wave of residual energy from a powerful attack that spread in all directions.
Such an attack came from none other than the side of the mountain, a side now destroyed and nearly collapsing, while a huge, deep hole could be seen above it.
Buried at the center of this hole was none other than the headmaster of the academy, battered and wounded as he violently coughed up mouthfuls of blood.
His appearance was disordered, his armor fractured in various places, almost on the verge of breaking apart, just like the headmaster himself.
He had taken on the monster commanding the beast army, a creature clearly stronger than him, which he hoped to hold off for as long as possible while waiting for the rest of the group to deal with the wave of beasts and then come to his aid.
Unfortunately for him, the opposite happened, his men were continuously pushed back, some injured, others dead, and worse still, some corrupted, which only added more weight to the already dire situation.
But they were not the only ones having a hard time; he too had exchanged several blows against the strange corrupted creature, and as much as he hated to admit it, he had no chance against it.
The being in question was suspended in the air, a humanoid body almost four meters tall, robust, without a face or, in general, any feature on the head that could give it semblance.
It was sturdy, not too much, but certainly not little, and behind it a thick and long tail could be seen,
one that possessed a powerful attacking force, enough to make him spit blood with a single hit.
He felt his body trembling from all the pain endured as he moved.
He felt his limbs protesting against every movement, but no matter how much he longed to close his eyes and forget about the rest of the world, it seemed he could not afford such a luxury.
He had to grit his teeth and keep fighting, if not for himself, then at least for his people, for the people he knew, and most importantly, for his family.
He climbed out of the crater formed on the side of Mount Chijing, forcing himself back to his feet.
He looked at the rest of the battlefield and could see with some relief that he had managed to keep the creature away from the front of its army.
Not much, but better than nothing.
This would make things a bit easier for his subordinates, and hopefully they could seize this chance to push back the beast army.
That being said, he wasn’t delusional enough to think that would happen. He glanced at the being still suspended in the distance, its attention focused on him.
He didn’t know what it was feeling, but if he had to guess, he believed the creature was enjoying all of this, his misery, his useless attempts to hit and wound it, his futile struggle against it.
The thought made his blood boil, but he kept his mind cold.
He couldn’t lose concentration now.
He had managed to hold the enemy back, or perhaps it was better to say that the enemy had found a toy to play with before continuing its assault.
But that wasn’t the case for the rest of the beasts; they had continued advancing, slow but steady all this time, and were already near the first medium sized town.
The nearby villages, now in ruins, had been evacuated in time, but the same could not be said for the town.
Things were difficult for a place of such size and population, and even worse, even if they could move them, where would they even go?
If they didn’t stop the beasts’ advance, sooner or later they would reach them, if not this small town, then a larger one, perhaps even the capital Qiyan itself, and so on.
He didn’t know, but he knew he couldn’t do anything except play with this creature, at least long enough for reinforcements to arrive.
He was ready to attack again, but before he could move, he felt a change in the air.
And he wasn’t the only one,
the beast also seemed to perceive something as its attention shifted from him toward a certain direction, the same direction the beast tide was advancing toward, the town.
’This presence... what is happening?’ he thought as he sensed a certain presence suddenly appear out of nowhere. It was powerful, at least at the peak of the Mortal Realm, but it was strange.
It was as if the being wielding it wasn’t alive, and yet such force emanated from it.
The thought confused him greatly, and it seemed the same was true for the creature before him.
But it didn’t end there. Not even a few seconds passed before another presence appeared out of nowhere... then another... and another still.
Before he could even realize it, countless similar auras began to be felt, all powerful, all at the fifth stage of the Mortal Realm with several at the peak, all identical to the first.
But stranger still, the auras didn’t seem to come from a single direction but from several, from the town ahead, then from another territory, and another.
Some were close, others very far, yet all similar, and soon these presences began to move, all toward a single point, namely the town that was about to be attacked.
The headmaster was confused. He knew reinforcements were coming, but he also knew they wouldn’t arrive for a few hours.
More importantly, he knew they wouldn’t be much help, the ones sent would be cultivators of the fourth and fifth stages, with few at the peak. And yet the presences that appeared out of nowhere were all powerful, and strangely similar to one another.
"What in the world is happening?" he muttered, confused but even more worried,
worried that these presences might not be allies, but enemies instead.
