Chapter 1715: Chapter 1714: Dawn Leader?

Beidu Research Institute Rest Home

He Ao walked into the empty ward, looking at the unoccupied bed in the center of the room.

"Our duty room is manned 24 hours a day," the person in charge of the rest home stood beside He Ao, speaking somewhat nervously, "Just a moment ago, there was a malfunction in the electrical system of the entire rest home, and all the equipment lost power. Then when the nurse on duty looked up to check, Director Li was gone."

"How long was it unattended?"

He Ao walked to the bedside and asked softly.

"Very short," the person in charge pointed to a chair by the room’s entrance, "We work in shifts, and a nurse constantly watches over Director Li. From the power outage to when she entered the room, it was less than a minute."

He Ao turned his head and looked at a nearby window, then walked over to it.

"All the windows are locked, with no signs of being opened." the person in charge quickly said, "We also didn’t find any signs of damage to the windows."

"Hmm."

He Ao glanced at the dust on the window, confirming that it indeed showed no signs of being opened.

He shifted his gaze again, walking back to the bedside, and gazed at the clean bed sheets.

The devices beside the window were still running, the screens glowing, while the sensors meant to monitor vital signs and stick to the patient were scattered across the sheets, some cables even unplugged and missing.

It looked as if they had been forcibly ripped out.

He Ao slightly furrowed his brows, gazing at the bed sheets.

"Since Director Li’s disappearance, we’ve been protecting the scene," the person in charge hurriedly said, "No one has moved anything in this room."

"Hmm." He Ao lightly nodded to indicate he was listening.

He extended his hand, gently resting it on the pristine sheets.

Poof—

A faint sound seemed to resonate from the void, and then, like tempered glass shattered at the edges, the naturally curled and wrinkled sheet suddenly was covered with cracks, instantly disintegrating along with the mattress beneath into a dense ash.

"What is this?" the person in charge watched in horror, waving his hands repeatedly, "Dean He, we didn’t do anything—"

"Hmm, I know," He Ao gazed at the ashes on the bed and said casually, "This should be the force of Thunder dissipating."

He raised his head again and looked at the open door nearby.

He walked to the open doorway, gazing at the door handle.

The once somewhat aged door handle was now smooth and new.

He Ao crouched, observing the similarly smooth ground beneath his feet.

"We have someone cleaning the floor every day." the person in charge immediately said.

"Do you have water?" He Ao asked casually.

"Yes, yes," a young nurse quickly replied, "Would you like hot or cold water?"

"Either is fine." He Ao replied calmly.

The nurse hurried over to a teapot.

"I’ll do it myself." He Ao glanced at the teapot and raised his hand.

The teapot abruptly flew up, landing in his hand.

Then he poured the water from the teapot onto the ground.

The crystal-clear droplets streaked across the smooth tiles, revealing patchy refractive spots on them.

"What’s this?" the person in charge widened his eyes.

"Melted dust." He Ao stood up, his eyes sweeping the corridor.

The bright light shone on the glossy tiles, revealing some faint disorganized refractive spots.

But as those spots gradually spread to the end of the corridor, their size decreased, quickly disappearing.

He Ao stood up again, taking another look at the bed where the sheets and mattress had turned to ash.

Was the initial force somewhat out of control, stabilizing as it departed?

But why leave?

The person in charge watched He Ao’s silent expression, standing beside him, tense and trembling.

"It’s okay, it’s not your issue," He Ao shook his head, "Director Li left on his own. He was too fast for you to notice."

As he spoke, He Ao rubbed his brow again.

At that moment, he paused slightly, his eyes lifting a little.

He received a text message.

But it wasn’t sent to his main body; it was sent to his clone.

Or rather, to ’Hu Wen’.

The sender included a simple note, ’Dawn Leader’.

The message was also straightforward:

[We should meet.]

——

Republic of Alano

The fiery sun rose slowly above the sea horizon, casting brilliant rays and illuminating the Firmament.

Alano and Central Earth have a time difference of over a dozen hours. Central Earth was already approaching evening, while the sun had just risen here.

He Ao, controlling his clone, stopped in front of a simple and ordinary courtyard by the seaside.

The iron gate of this small courtyard is already covered with mottled rust, and the wall next to it is covered with a bit of moss, while the courtyard wall is overgrown with green vines.

The iron gate of the small courtyard was not closed but ajar. Just before He Ao arrived at the courtyard gate, the iron gate trembled slightly, accompanied by the sound of ’creak, creak,’ and slowly opened backward.

The courtyard amidst a sea of greenery was exposed before He Ao.

The scene inside the courtyard was different from the chaos outside, with all the plants trimmed neatly, and a variety of flowers planted by the wall competing for beauty amidst the green leaves.

In the center of the courtyard, a giant jujube tree was planted, and beneath it was a bamboo table with three bamboo chairs. An elderly man with white hair and beard sat on one of the bamboo chairs, back facing He Ao, holding a purple clay teapot, pouring tea into three purple clay cups.

"I don’t have any good tea here, nor many tea sets to entertain you," as if he heard He Ao’s footsteps, or perhaps heard nothing at all, the elderly man spoke hoarsely with his back to He Ao, "I only have this bit of coarse tea, I hope you don’t mind."

He Ao did not respond but continued forward, walked to the bamboo table, and casually sat on one of the bamboo chairs.

He looked up, gazing at the elderly man in front of him.

The elderly man had a square face, wearing a white short-sleeve shirt, floral-patterned shorts, and casual shoes, his gaze was kindly and calm, looking just like a tourist basking in the sun by the roadside.

He Ao picked up the tea on the table and took a sip, "This tea is not bad."

"It seems you are a casual guy too." The elderly man looked up at He Ao and laughed.

"I’m a bit curious," He Ao looked at him, slightly puzzled, and asked, "Why do you choose to see me only now?"

"Does it matter if it’s too early or too late?" The elderly man shook his head, "I only met with the second and third after they had joined for a long time too. Daybreak is a loose organization; I never planned on building it up in any particular way, nor do I have such a strong desire for control."

"But it has become the most powerful and terrifying supernatural organization in the world." He Ao took a sip of tea and said casually.

The original second-in-command of Daybreak, Feiya, colluded with the Outer God, resulting in the Underground Palace incident.

The third-in-command Boss was also influenced by artificial intelligence controlled by the Outer God, causing quite a stir and almost exposing the Main World’s location to the Outer God.

Not to mention the various supernatural criminals that Daybreak harbored.

"But you must understand, it’s not the Extraordinary Power that makes people bad, it’s that people are inherently bad and just happened to acquire Extraordinary Power." The elderly man shook his head with a smile, "These bad people with Extraordinary Power will wreak havoc wherever they go; they just happened to join Daybreak. It doesn’t mean that Daybreak is a bad organization."

He looked at He Ao, "In fact, it’s precisely because the three major organizations recruit all the good people that only the bad ones would join us, giving us a reputation like we are all bad people."

He took a sip of tea, continued to gaze at He Ao, and said with a smile, "See, you are a good person. After you joined Daybreak, you arranged things very well, and now those notorious criminals are even helping the elderly cross the street."

"It sounds like the Leader seems to have concerns about me?" He Ao smiled as he took a sip of tea.

"I have no concerns about you; to be honest, I think you are doing a great job," the elderly man laughed heartily, "Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gradually handed over all the power of Daybreak to you."

He poured a cup of tea for He Ao, and himself, took a sip of tea, and then, with a slightly intoxicated enjoyment, lowered his head, smiled at He Ao, "Moreover, how could I possibly have concerns about an Angel Envoy, a mysterious B-level powerhouse, right, Mr. Hao Yi?"

Upon hearing this, there was no change in He Ao’s expression. He slowly placed the tea cup to his mouth and sipped lightly, "Why do you say that?"

"I carefully examined your information," the elderly man smiled gently, "The time you joined Daybreak is almost the same as when Hao Yi appeared. You used to be a despicable bastard, yet after joining Daybreak, you changed your ways. Although you still kill a lot, you have become more rule-abiding, more principled."

He lifted his gaze, and his brown pupils stared into He Ao’s eyes, smiling, "And your progress is far beyond my imagination. Soon after you joined Daybreak, both the second and third died one after the other, and you happened to be the most suitable person to take over their forces at that time,

"Meanwhile, the deaths of the second and third are also closely related to ’Hao Yi’ and Dean He’s current involvement at the Research Institute."

He smiled and placed the tea cup on the table, and sighed, "It’s hard not to suspect you,"

He looked at He Ao, "I don’t believe a person can change overnight, rather than believing this, I am more inclined to believe that you are being controlled by Hao Yi. After all, such abilities are quite common in the Extraordinary World, so the person talking to me might actually be ’Hao Yi,’ right?"

"Do you suspect me, yet still entrust most of Daybreak’s power areas to me?" He Ao looked at him, intrigued, and asked.

"I mentioned before that Daybreak isn’t a place that only recruits bad people," the elderly man chuckled hoarsely, "It’s just that my little friends’ reputations aren’t great, and good people are unwilling to come. If a good person does come, I welcome them."

"So, from the very beginning, you suspected a connection between me and Hao Yi," He Ao smiled as he looked at him, "and that’s why you entrusted most of Daybreak to me?"

"Of course, having a B-level powerhouse join my organization," the elderly man chuckled hoarsely, "is indeed a good thing."

"I feel," He Ao smiled calmly, "you haven’t told the whole truth."

"You are very perceptive," the elderly man paused slightly and continued to smile, "Actually, I fabricated the reasoning just now; I found the conditions based on the answers."

He picked up the teapot, refilled his own tea cup, and then filled He Ao’s, waiting for He Ao to pick up his tea cup before he smiled and said, "I’m not very good at reasoning, but fortunately, I’m good at ’prophecy.’ I simply saw the future and chose you."

Upon hearing this, He Ao almost spat out his tea and could only look up at the elderly man in surprise.

"Sounds like fantasy, doesn’t it?" the elderly man laughed heartily, "But I’m not lying; I really can prophesy. I got the answer directly and filled in the process afterward."

"I don’t sense the aura of a Transcendent on you." He Ao said calmly.

"Doesn’t that further prove that I can prophesy?" The elderly man continued, "It is precisely because I can prophesy that I can, as an ordinary person, build a powerful Transcendent organization."

He looked up at He Ao, speaking calmly, "And the reason I have sought you out is that I have seen that the world is on the brink of destruction."

He Ao’s hands continued to sip tea undisturbed, and he asked calmly, "How so?"

The elderly man glanced at He Ao’s movements, his gaze pausing momentarily before continuing to sip his tea, saying, "You must have already seen that thing in the sky, it’s getting closer and faster, until it completely reaches the heavens, bringing about a calamity that will destroy everything in this world."

"Do you have a solution?" He Ao asked straightforwardly.

"No," the elderly man shrugged and laughed, "but I believe you might, or rather, the one who came with you today might have."

He Ao, controlling his clone, looked up and smiled at him, "Who?"

"Dean He," the elderly man looked up at the void beside He Ao, speaking hoarsely, "since you’re already here, why not show yourself for a talk? Although I don’t know the method to save the world, I do know some other information."

He gazed at the sky, speaking loudly, "Aren’t you curious about where the Angel who controls Thunder has gone now?"

His voice echoed in the empty courtyard, carrying a faint echo.

But no one responded to him.

Yet the elderly man continued to smile, confidently awaiting the person he mentioned to make an appearance.

"So, you called me over just to lure ’Dean He’ here?" He Ao controlled his clone and asked softly.

"After all, my identity is hard to verify," the elderly man smiled confidently and calmly, "the prophecy told me that bringing you over is the best way to lead Dean He here."

"The prophecy you speak of," and then, in that moment, a calm and hoarse voice emerged from behind the elderly man, a hand lightly placed on the elderly man’s shoulder from behind, "is it the note that appears by your bedside every morning?"

The elderly man’s body suddenly stiffened.
