Chapter 209: 209. Wounding The Unkillable

Cthulhu rose higher, and as more of its shape came out, water flowed from its huge body. The creature’s wings started to beat, not to fly but to make wind.

The hurricane-force winds picked up the polluted ocean water and threw it toward Tidebreak Port.

Five hundred meters high, a wave of pure corrupted tsunami raced toward the coastal city, where thousands of people had fled from the earlier megalodon attack and were still safe behind Zephyra’s barrier.

Nerissa yelled, "NO!" and then started casting right away. "OCEANIC AUTHORITY: TIDAL NEGATION!"

She put all of her power into the spell, trying to stop the corrupted tsunami before it hit land. Nerissa’s magic fought against Cthulhu’s casual destruction, and the wave slowed down, then stopped, and then started to go back the other way.

But she couldn’t keep it up by herself. Even an empress who was eight hundred years old couldn’t handle all the corrupted water.

"All royal children with a connection to water!" Nerissa ordered through their bloodline. "Put all your energy into my spell!"

"We are the last line of defense between that wave and the end of Tidebreak Port!"

All three hundred of her kids, even the ones who had just left Meridia and were exhausted, answered their mother’s desperate call. Those with water magic added their power to Nerissa’s spell, making a network of oceanic authority that stretched from the Astral Deep to the coast.

They made a wall together. Not physical, but magical. The unbreakable wall of water magic held the corrupted tsunami in place, fueled by the collective power of all those involved.

People in Tidebreak Port watched in awe and fear as a wall of black corruption stopped just a few meters from their homes. An unseen force held it back, making the air shimmer with power.

But Nerissa couldn’t fight Cthulhu because she was holding the wave. She and her kids were in a fight for their lives, trying to keep the barrier up while the Forbidden Guardian kept waking up.

Zephyra saw the scene and chose what to do. She reached behind her back, where baby Sophia’s cradle had been, and pulled out a small crystal that glowed with teleportation magic.

She told a random person who was watching from behind her original barrier, "Take my child to the Guild Hall."

"Tell them that Grand Sorceress Zephyra sent her. Protect her with your life."

The citizen, a middle-aged merchant woman who had narrowly escaped the megalodon attack, took the magical cradle with shaking hands and nodded. "On my life, Grand Sorceress, I promise your daughter will be safe."

Zephyra saw them teleport away and then focused all of her attention on the fight. There was nothing stopping her now that her daughter was safe far from the ocean.

"Rick Rolland!" Zephyra’s voice cut through the noise.

Rick glanced at her and shouted back. "Yeah?!"

"I’m going to boost you even more than the baseline amplification!"

"You’re the key to this whole bond network! If you fall, everyone’s power goes down with you!"

"GOT IT!"

She made a new magical circle just for Rick and started chanting in a language that was used before modern times. "ANCIENT SORCERY: HERO’S ASCENSION!"

Rick felt power flooding into him at a level that made the earlier enhancement look like a warm-up. His attributes didn’t just increase... they multiplied. As draconic, demonic, oceanic, and divine energies mixed with Zephyra’s enhancement magic, his body started to shine with golden light.

The system had locked his level at 50 after Sebastian’s earlier experience dump, but it started to rise.

51... 52... 53...

"H-Holy shit...! I can feel it...! Power surging through my entire body!" Rick looked at both of his hands.

The level-ups kept coming, not because of experience, but because of a magical boost that temporarily pushed him beyond his normal limits.

58... 59... 60.

"Yeah... YEAH!!! I’m getting fucking stronger every second now!!!" Rick clenched both his fists.

Zephyra shouted over the storm, "This is only temporary!"

"Once I stop channeling, you’ll be back to normal! But for now, you’re the closest thing to a god that people can make..."

"MAKE GOOD USE OF IT UNTIL IT’S THE LAST OF YOUR HOPE FOR ZORATHIA!"

Rick nodded. "Leave everything to Rick motherfucking Rolland!"

Rick looked at the Cthulhu, which was now fully out of the ocean and starting to spread its wings to fly to land. The Forbidden Guardian’s tentacles twisted in excitement, and its many eyes were fixed on the coastal cities, where millions of people were waiting for death without knowing it.

"EVERYONE!" Ocean’s Hope and Zephyra’s magic made Rick’s voice louder until it echoed across the whole battlefield.

"We need to use a coordinated attack! We hit it with everything we’ve got! Aim for the wings! If we ground it, we’ll have more time for help to come!"

Carmilla raised her sword. "Guardian’s Resolve at maximum!"

Natasha’s hands crackled with ice magic. "Absolute Zero formation ready!"

Liora’s divine energy shone like a star. "Prepared for Heaven’s Wrath!"

Zara’s demonic form screamed. "Blood Price to the limit!"

The fire from Sylvia’s dragon turned white-hot. "Dragon’s Breath at... FULL power!"

The Kraken from Myrissa came up next to the New Leviathan. "Guardian synchronization is on!"

Thalor and thirty of his strongest brothers made a battle line in the air, where Zephyra’s wind magic kept them up. "Royal combat formation is ready!"

Rick aimed the Trident of New Tides at the huge shape of Cthulhu. "FOR ZORATHIA!"

"FOR EVERYONE WE’VE SWORN TO PROTECT!"

"ATTAAAACCCKKKK!!!" Rick screamed as loud as he could, and then he launched toward the Cthulhu with all the people who fought with him side by side.

Rick had never been in a fight as intense as the one they were currently engaged in together.

Carmilla’s sword made a slash of pure cutting force that went hundreds of meters through the air toward Cthulhu’s left wing.

Natasha’s ice magic made a spear as big as a building that hit with the force of a falling meteor and froze everything it touched.

Liora’s divine lances fell like cannon fire, and each one had enough holy power to cleanse an entire city block.

Blood Price and Zephyra’s magic made Zara’s demonic claws huge, and they raked across Cthulhu’s torso, ripping through corrupted scales.

Sylvia’s dragon fire breath turned into a beam of white plasma that could have melted mountains and was aimed directly at the joint in the right wing.

The New Leviathan and Myrissa’s Kraken attacked at the same time, hitting Cthulhu’s middle with their combined weight and using their elemental attacks to hit weak spots.

Thalor and the thirty royal siblings used coordinated water magic to make blades that cut through the air with whistling sounds.

Rick drove the Trident of New Tides forward with both hands while channeling power from six Spirit Bonds at once and leveling up to level sixty.

"OCEANIC DEVASTATION: EMPEROR’S FINAL STRIKE!"

The trident’s golden energy burst out in a cone of destruction that combined all of Rick’s powers. Draconic fire, demonic rage, oceanic power, divine judgment, and the unbreakable bonds he had with six amazing women.

The attack hit Cthulhu right in the middle of his chest.

Everything stopped for a moment...

The storm stopped... and the waves stopped moving...

As the combined attack hit with apocalyptic force, even the Forbidden Guardian stopped moving.

Then the impacts went off.

Like a second sunrise, explosions lit up the sky that was dark from the storm. Cthulhu’s wings ripped, and huge holes appeared in the membranous tissue.

Its body broke, and black ichor poured out of wounds that finally seemed to hurt the creature. Natasha’s ice spear cut off one of its six arms at the elbow, leaving it limp.

Cthulhu roared in pain for the first time since waking up.

RAAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

The noise was beyond description. It wasn’t merely a sound; it was a palpable corruption, a madness that resonated, and a despair that echoed.

Rick’s mind struggled to block out the cacophony, and with each pulse of sound, his sanity slipped further away.

Yet, despite the overwhelming darkness, they had managed to wound it for real...

"Again!" Rick shouted, his hope rising even though he was already exhausted. "We CAN do this shit!!!"

"Hit it again before it recovers...!"

They got ready for a second attack by gathering their remaining strength for another coordinated strike.

But Cthulhu...

...was done waiting.
