Legendary Traveler: By Earning Progress Points I will Become Supreme!-Chapter 74: She Actually Disobeyed Me -,-
Holding up the grapefruit-sized Brain to the light and turning it around a few times, Aoni was quite amazed by how developed it was when compared to native animals on Terra.
Well, that and the Brain was the same golden color as the blood, which was both strange and made sense to the lad. Figuring he couldn’t stand there all day playing with the organ, Aoni looked left and right before tucking his foot under the only remaining empty basin, flipping it over, and resting the Brain on top of it.
Since the hard part was done, his attention was instead directed back at the folded-up pelt.
"For the sake of saving resources, so long as I fold the shit out of the pelt, it should fit in the drawers I made earlier," walking over to the not-so-freshly skinned hide, Aoni picked it up and was completely caught off guard by what he felt.
"How…" Quickly unfolding it and throwing the pelt over one of the racks he made for stretching, the lad ran his fingers up and down the rough-skinned hide and was amazed to find it was over halfway dried already after only being out in the open for a few short hours.
"This is crazy…no, wait, am I just stupid or something," smacking his forehead loud enough that it echoed off in the distance, Aoni remembered that upon their death, while the meat of high-density energia creatures would stay fresh for some time, the first thing to dry out would be the skin.
Well, that is to say, so long as it was removed from the carcass, if not, it would stay in good condition while remaining in contact with the meat.
Because of this, creating leather or other materials out of the beast, monster, or creature skin that originally belonged to something with a Rank of One to three stars took half as long as something without an EC.
However, at the same time, if its grade was 4-6 Stars, the processing time would be doubled, and 7-9 Stars would take five to six times as long to process for crafting.
Realizing the creatures Glacia brought back were, at the minimum, 1-star beasts, Aoni’s face stiffened as he turned to look in the direction of the cave.
’She actually disobeyed me and my constant nagging and ran out of the barrier…’ Taking a deep breath to calm down, Aoni realized he couldn’t be mad at his summon; she was, after all, just a baby, and given how good these beasts must have smelled, he acknowledged that she got distracted and didn’t realize she had wandered beyond the barrier.
Resigning himself to giving the ball of fluff a good talking when she woke up, Aoni shook his head, retrieved a drying drawer, dumped its contents out, and stuffed the newly salted and tightly folded Chimera hide into it.
Although it was already halfway finished drying, it would still need to be in the salt for a little while before he could stretch it out and Brain the hide.
"It should only take about 6 hours before it’s ready for braining; in the meantime, I guess I can work on making some straps and threads since the Chimera’s brain is large enough to be used on multiple hides…." Right as the words left his mouth, the lad froze, and a dead look spread across his face as he realized he’d accidentally fucked himself over earlier.
"Sigh, looks like ima have to make another stone bowl..." glancing at the bowl hanging over the campfire, Aoni sighed heavily because originally he planned on using it; however, now, since he didn’t have access to soap and his only means of cleaning something was rubbing snow and salt all over it while scrubbing with a tree branch, the lad could only make a second bowl.
Hunching over and dragging his feet, Aoni went ahead and picked up Austr, since Vestr had hit the wall enough times, and trudged his way toward the cave’s outer wall.
Thirty minutes, a few sword strikes, and a whole lot of carving later, Aoni replaced the dirty bowl hanging over the campfire with a new stone bowl packed to the brim with snow.
Nodding his head and sitting down, the lad waited for 15 minutes until the snow transformed into boiling water, then took it off the fire, placed it on the boulder, and dropped the Brain into it.
From there, all he had to do was mash the ever-living shit out of the organ with a smooth stone, and just like that, he had the one resource he needed most to finish the tanning process, a golden, soupy liquid.
Since he couldn’t use it all at once anyway, Aoni chugged down what remained of the water in one of his two water bottles and carefully poured the soupy liquid in.
"Uh…I need to remember this is the brain bottle; just thinking about chugging down brain fluid gives me the ick," Staring hard at the bottle after placing the cap on, Aoni gave it a few shakes before swiping some ash from the campfire and marking the outer surface with a smudge.
---
For the rest of the afternoon, Aoni fell into a routine of removing a dried hide from the drawer and either setting it aside or shredding it.
The ones set aside were large enough to make things like boxers or socks, something he would desperately need but would require much more processing for them to be soft enough to be crafted into underwear.
By the time darkness bathed the mountain, he had already removed the Chimera pelt from its drying drawer, strung it up on his largest stretching rack, and coated it with golden brain juice; now all it needed was hours to cure, and it would be ready for crafting.
Inside one of the formerly overturned basins were dozens of thin, rawhide straps, along with what almost looked like hair but was actually dried-out threads.
Standing up and stretching with a loud yet tired Groan, Aoni observed the fruits of his labor and, after dousing the campfire, retreated to the cave, where he found Glacia still happily snoring away on the sled.

Reaching down and picking her up, Aoni yawned while cradling the ball of fluff and heading to bed for the night.
Tomorrow was another day, with another summon charge and plenty of work to do.
