Legendary Shelter Survival Guide-Chapter 340: You are a prisoner (2)- Ella’s outburst
Yet again, it tried moving toward Lucas in a single leap with its hands. When it reached close enough, it used its hands involuntarily to change direction inside the hut once more.
Lucas watched it roar in frustration for a few seconds before stepping back inside the shelter.
For the first time, the Kobold noticed the strange, black, inked rune on its chest, which hadn’t been there when it was last awake. It clawed at its chest, trying to tear the rune off, but all it felt was pain, with no results.
The rune was now a part of it, and it had no choice in the matter.
"So, can I learn this skill too, Lucas?" Jerry asked excitedly.
"If you want to learn it on your own, you’ll need extensive rune knowledge and the skill level to back it up. Though, we can try getting you one in the dungeon."
Jerry hummed and nodded, a big, cheeky smile spreading across his face. They both entered the shelter, only to see Ella with a sad expression and John sitting by her side. Everyone in the shelter was either nearby or gathered around.
When Ella’s gaze landed on Lucas, she quickly stood up and approached him. John tried to stop her by lightly grabbing her arm, but she shook it off.
"Why didn’t you tell us, Lucas?" Ella asked, her voice calm, though her face told a different story. Lucas could feel the deep emotions of anger and panic radiating from her.
"I didn’t want anyone to worry. It was just a small mission to help train the special soldiers, Aunt Ella. Nothing significant," Lucas replied, his voice steady and mature.
"Something could have happened! How can you be so nonchalant about it?! Can’t you hear the aggressive roars of that creature near us?" she exclaimed, her anger slipping through.
John stayed silent, while Lucas clearly understood her emotions. She was scared for her husband, who hadn’t told her he was going on a dangerous mission.
"If I had told you, it would have only hindered your work, Aunt Ella," Lucas stated. He wanted his reasoning to be heard aloud, even though he knew not everyone would understand it.
"Lucas…" Ella was at a loss for words. She was so angry she wanted to blurt out everything on her mind, but when she looked at the boy in front of her—the child who looked young but carried the soul of a 30-year-old—it left her conflicted.
Even realizing that he could sense her emotions made her feel vulnerable. She clenched her teeth for a moment before her eye twitched.
Everyone was surprised. They had never seen Ella this angry in the entire year they had been together.
After a deep breath, Ella’s demeanor shifted. She looked at Lucas again. "I want to know everything my husband is involved in. Hiding things won’t help me; it will only fracture this small group," she stated firmly.
"What we have here is trust, and after today, how am I supposed to believe you’re not lying, Lucas? Don’t get me wrong—I understand where you’re coming from. You want to make us feel so protected that we can focus on developing the territory, which I get. But I don’t agree with your approach," she said sternly, side-glancing at her husband, who remained speechless. "We as a group can help you more if you’re honest with us, Lucas. If my husband is going outside the shelter to fight, I have a right to know."
Lucas knew this moment would come. His decision was practical and good for the shelter, yet whether it was good in the eyes of his people was a different matter.
"As a leader, my approach will always prioritize what benefits my people, both emotionally and practically. If I had told you, you would have worried and been unable to join us, making you feel even worse for not being there as a former healer."
"Then make me a healer again," Ella said instantly. "Change my role. I want to join you on missions—I can be of great help," she stated. Everyone looked at her, and some nodded in agreement.
Since Ella became the tamer of the shelter, she didn’t have much to do besides looking after her tames. There was no livestock on the property that could use her expertise. It could be said that her skills weren’t being utilized to their fullest potential.
Much like how having an accountant is useless without skilled labor to build an office—without enough carpenters, welders, or electricians to construct the infrastructure, progress is impossible.
"I can take you up on that offer. With you on the team, it would feel complete. But that means Sandra as the active healer of the territory could come too if she likes, but our difficulties for now are not so big to take two healers along, " Lucas said, turning to Sandra who had a plain expression.

"I can resign as a healer," Sandra said, her voice as plain as her expression. Her sister looked at her and then at Lucas, a concerning look on her face. It was as if Sandra didn’t care at all, even though she had originally taken the role willingly.

"This is a discussion I’m willing to have in a meeting. The main topic will be your concerns about how the shelter is being led. The meeting will be set for the morning," Lucas said before walking toward the clay oven.
Ella had a worried look on her face. She glanced back at her husband and muttered, "Did I say too much?"
John looked at her with a bittersweet smile. "… No… you didn’t," he said slowly. Even in his eyes, it was clear that he too wanted a conversation about Lucas’s goals.
They were there to help the group in his eyes yet whether they were in a good light among the people was a different thing, ’Will this really fracture our group’s relationship?’ John thought and asked himself.
Sean and Barney went to their mother to console her, Sandra went outside the shelter again and Haley looked at her with a perplexed emotion, even Bill had a frown. Haley rather than moving beside her, moved toward the clay oven instead.
