"Wait What?!" Lucas exclaimed loudly while looking at the hologram screen in shock.

"There are 10 kobolds in here… and a human!!" Lucas said again, louder this time.

"10 Kobolds… if they are together, can we really defeat them?" John thought aloud while looking at the hologram of his own too.

"We will bash their heads in! Where are the bastards anyway?" Jerry asked with a spiky baton in his hand.

"Stay calm, Jerry. We don’t know where they are but a human has come to this place. We have to find him… or her."

"Human already?"

"Yeah..."

"We should ask Bill to find them, he is fast enough and already on patrol even after completing one of the missions."

"I will call him, Lucas. You can start with the productions. The Kobolds can’t really bypass our shelter anyways." John stated with a raw grin on his face.

Lucas’s eyes lit when he heard him, an inkling of realization formed somewhere in his mind.

"Yeah, there will be no problem. Oh, look at the furnace, I think the process is completed."

Everyone looked inside the furnace only to see the flames diminishing, it was not an automatic process.

Lucas had pushed the button again, meaning it was switching off now.

Hey could now see that the furnace’s wall had gotten darker with residues all around yet on the ground, the main ingredient of the concrete was present.

The greyish ash mixed with the dark chunks of wood that Lucas thought to be charcoal.

Only to test the waters, Lucas made his hand move toward the furnace’s mouth and after going just a few inches inside, he retracted his hand.

It was just so damn hot!

"We can’t take it out now, what should we do now?" John asked from the side.

"Uncle John, how about you use your wind manipulation to take the ashes out."

"Hmm… not possible. There are still things that I can’t do and I think one of them is making the winds go in without it making the fire light up again. You know, it has oxygen."

Lucas inwardly cringed at his own question, the answer was right there yet he messed things up again.

"Yeah, you are right, John. I can see some fire residue still there, it can light on fire if you send the winds in there." Even Jerry stated which made Lucas just drop the topic with a nod.

"Yeah, true."

Lucas didn’t speak for a while again and thought about what to do next. Now that there was no pressure about leveling the skills again and again.

Lucas hadn’t decided how to make do with his whole day.

It was alright to train again and again yet he didn’t find it efficient to only train and train until his skills upgraded on the system panel.

Sure, the ones that helped him gain knowledge were great but the fighting ones felt bland and ineffective if he was practicing and not using them in deadly fights at all.

That was why Lucas was itching to discover the Kobolds already. He knew that those guys would already be in their level 5s which was strong enough.

Lucas’s heart itched for him to fight already, the darkness tried to seep out of it, a single strand even came out yet Lucas reluctantly made them go inside the heart again.

’Not right now, just wait a little more Lucas… Wait a little more.’

While Lucas was engaging in his own turmoils, John was curious about his own abilities. He without telling anyone sent a little output of his winds inside the furnace.

The charred wood pieces among the ashes started to burn up just like when someone blows on an already burnt piece that starts to ignite again.

He stopped completely, knowing completely that while this output was very light, just like a blow of wind from his mouth, it could be completely different when he increased the output.

What would happen if he were to send wind that was able to even root out the small plants and grass from the ground?

"Alright, let’s look at the roles again Uncle John, we have to be done with them by the end of the day."

"Aren’t we being hasty?"

"Nah, they would be desperate to get what they want which will help in fastening the decision-making process."

"Hm… you are learning fast Lucas, very good."

"I knew you were testing me, Uncle John. I have to be extra careful because of this reason."

"Alright, I am getting bored, you two. What should I do now?" Jerry asked while picking his nose.

"Why don’t you practice your tank skills? If the Kobolds are coming, then you would have to protect us all." Lucas asked.

"Hah! See how I bash their skulls in without anyone’s help. Oh, for the time till this furnace becomes cold enough, why don’t you spar with me?"

"Jerry, enough." John stopped Jerry in his attempt to spar with Lucas again.

Lucas chuckled awkwardly, he wanted to spar too yet things were not certain anymore.

"You know I want to Jerry, but for everyone’s safety, I can’t right now. You don’t know how this thing inside me has started to steam up again."

"Much better, you can blow this steam off with a spar with me." Jerry was persistent in his ways and John had long stopped telling him a piece of his mind.

"Jerry… I don’t think it will end with only a spar… you know?" Lucas let some of the darkness that he was controlling all this time come out. It was the only way to make Jerry stop.

Just when it came out, Lucas knew what was going to happen next, the mark on his hand would ache for a second and then he would feel the intent to kill anything in front of him. Explore stories on novelbuddy

It was not something only he would feel, Jerry felt a chill down his spine by the way Lucas was looking at him. As if Lucas was a predator hungry for days only to see a little lamb like himself to play and eat at the same time.

"Ah… I think I have helped enough for the day. Goodbye!"

Lucas’s eyes moved with the running Jerry who went up the stairs faster than how he traveled in that darkness.
