Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 342: The Library Theft Incident, Conference
Special Investigation Team, office area.
The person looking for Luo An was none other than the lead investigator of the first investigation team responsible for the library theft case, Lewis.
Lewis was a very amiable middle-aged Caucasian man. Because he used to get along with group leader Owen from the second investigation team, Luo An and Lewis had a good relationship and had drinks together after work.
Seeing Luo An walk out of the team leader's office, Lewis burst into a big laugh, quickly walked over, and gave Luo An a big hug:
"Luo An, I really can't thank you enough this time!"
Not very fond of being hugged by men, Luo An grinned and pushed Lewis away, taking him into the team leader's office and asked with a smile:
"How is it, the library case has been solved?"
"Almost there."
Sitting across from Luo An, Lewis smiled and briefly described the progress of the case.
After receiving the Los Angeles Library theft case, Lewis started leading his team to seriously check the clues, and after a few days, they finally found a suspicious vehicle that had left Los Angeles.
Once they confirmed the driver's identity and his suspicion, Lewis went with his team to other states for the arrest, but they encountered quite a bit of trouble.
The resistance from the suspects was a minor issue; the key point was that after Lewis and his team successfully captured several suspects, they still couldn't find the stolen books, the critical physical evidence.
"It's all thanks to that website your Special Investigation Team found."
Lewis's face turned red as he looked at Luo An. Had they not known about this website, the agents of the first investigation team would never have paid attention to the small card hidden intentionally among a pile of discarded mobile phones, wires, computer parts, etc., by the suspects' ringleader. They wouldn't have obtained the key evidence of the theft.
After talking about these events, Lewis also took out a small box of tea leaves from the East and placed it on Luo An's desk to express his gratitude.
"That's very kind of you."
Luo An took the tea leaves and chuckled, then asked:
"So, have you found the guy who placed the order for these suspects to steal books from the Los Angeles Library?"
"Not yet."
Lewis shook his head. According to the plan agreed on beforehand, after stealing the books, the suspects directly placed the books in a hole under a rock next to a road in Southern Los Angeles—they had no idea who the person behind the scenes placing the order was.
"However, we have found the missing books under that rock."
Lewis chuckled and calmly said:
"The person behind the scenes placing the orders can be investigated slowly. We'll find him eventually."
"You've found the stolen books?"
Luo An tilted his head in confusion, not quite understanding why the person who placed the order would pay but not take the books.
Did he run into a situation unexpectedly? Or did he discover the investigation by the first investigation team?
Not able to figure it out, Luo An didn't bother to think further. The books had been found, the thieves' gang had been caught, and the follow-up was the responsibility of the first investigation team. He didn't need to waste his thoughts on the mysterious thought process of the person behind the scenes.
After agreeing to go for drinks with Lewis after work today, Luo An chatted with him for a while longer. Lewis, who still had a lot of work on his hands, then got up and left Luo An's office.
"Baekho Silver Needle"
Sitting in his chair, Luo An looked at the English letters on the small tea box with a puzzled face. After opening the box and clearly seeing the shape of the tea leaves inside, he suddenly realized:
"It's actually White Silver Needle."
Putting away the tea leaves for now, Luo An stood up and walked out of the office, looking at Mona, Reesi, and Michelle with a smile and said:
"Ladies, I'm going to Washington Headquarters the Monday after next, and it may take a few days.
Our Special Investigation Team will be on temporary vacation those days. Does anyone want to go on a trip or visit Washington D.C.?"
Mona's eyes lit up and she nodded continuously, wanting to be the first to know the news of Luo An's formal appointment.
Michelle, who only wanted to read during her free time, shook her head in refusal, while Reesi raised her hand and asked with a giggling smile:
"If we go to Washington D.C. for a trip, will the expenses be reimbursed?"
Luo An grinned:
"You can be reimbursed 0.1%"
"Ugh~"
Reesi sprawled out completely, losing interest in traveling in an instant.
She had wanted to check out the customs and demeanor of female government workers in Washington D.C.
Since Luo An won't reimburse, there's no need to go, girls in Los Angeles are warmer anyway.
"By the way, Deputy Group Leader Luo An."
Right at that moment, Michelle handed several pages to Luo An, saying:
"These are the details of several murder cases that Assassin Jianaya confessed to in order to get a reduced sentence.
Two of the cases have always been unsolved in two other federal states, you see..."
"Wow, one has six victims in a serial killer case, and another is an arson case that destroyed a building."
Luo An took the pages, raised his eyebrows briefly after a quick read of the case details, thought for a moment, then handed the pages back to Michelle, saying:
"You contact the FBI in those states, and briefly explain the case details to them.
Right, don't forget what I taught you the other day."
Before the operation to arrest Assassin Jianaya, Luo An had earnestly taught Michelle the essence of case handling by their Special Investigation Team:
Eat anything you want, just don't suffer a loss; if you want to take something from me, you must leave something behind.
Hearing this, Michelle's face showed a hint of difficulty. It was her first time taking on such a task, but she didn't hesitate for long before agreeing:
"...No problem, Deputy Group Leader Luo An, I will handle this task well."
"Good."
Luo An nodded with satisfaction, then patted Reesi on the shoulder:
"If Michelle runs into any trouble, give her some support."
"OK."
Reesi chuckled with a hehe, loving nothing more than bargaining for benefits.
Then there was the assassin website matter - Group Leader Potante-Byrne had already started contacting other departments within the FBI. As the primary discoverer of the lead, Luo An had to attend multiple case discussion meetings.
That afternoon, following a complicated meeting, Luo An, exhausted and sore from sitting, walked out of the meeting room with an expression of speechlessness stretching himself vigorously.
Joint operations were the same everywhere; at the beginning of meetings, the primary discussions were never about what the leads were or what to do next, but how to distribute the blame and grab the benefits.
"Thank goodness the Special Investigation Team is only responsible for investigating documents, not for taking the lead in handling cases."
Thinking back to the chaos of the meeting, Luo An shook his head repeatedly, and for a moment, he suddenly didn't want to be promoted anymore.
"If I get promoted, I'll see if I can get a sharp-witted deputy to attend these kinds of meetings for me..."
Walking towards the Special Investigation Team while pondering aimlessly, Luo An turned a corner, and a voice suddenly called out to him:
"Luo An! Wait a minute!"
Stopping in his tracks, Luo An turned around to see that it was Group Leader Potante-Byrne.
At this time, Potante-Byrne's face was also not looking great, clearly because of the shameless haggling by that bunch in the meeting just now.
"Good afternoon, boss."
Luo An chuckled, his Special Investigation Team wasn't the primary handler of the case, so it wasn't his headache to deal with.
"Hmm."
Potante-Byrne hurried over to Luo An's side, handed him a folder, and said:
"A minor case. Your Special Investigation Team just happens to have no current cases, so take care of this matter first."
Thinking about the seven days left before his trip to Washington, Luo An opened the folder to find it was a missing person case.
Luo An: "...A missing person case is a minor one?"
