Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 288: Three Small Goals!
"?"
Upon hearing Mona's words, Luo An was baffled for a moment, only realizing she had misunderstood when he saw her continuously back away.
"You're overthinking it!"
Luo An was somewhat speechless, blaming Reesi for leading Mona astray!
Somewhere far away, Reesi: "?"
"So what are you planning to do?"
Seeing that Luo An had no such intentions, Mona breathed a sigh of relief.
This was, after all, a proper office area for working on cases; she would never do anything inappropriate here.
Luo An walked back slowly, smiling:
"I just want to learn some new knowledge from you."
At these words, Mona immediately stepped back again:
"And you say you don't have any bad thoughts!?"
"???"
Luo An looked up, speechless, standing in place. He planned to reeducate Reesi later, telling her to reduce the number of little stories she shared with Mona.
Assured that Luo An really had no ill intentions, Mona relaxed and sat back down at her desk, asking:
"What do you plan to learn?"
"Learn a bit about computer money laundering."
Luo An sat beside Mona, saying that the bank robbery had been an eye-opener for him. He hadn't realized that the computer world could be used to commit crimes in such ways.
In Hollywood, where money never sleeps, their chances of encountering financial crimes in the future were incredibly high. Learning new knowledge now, he didn't aspire to become a computer expert, but hoped to spot some clues in such crimes in the future.
"OK."
Convinced by Luo An's logical reasons, Mona didn't suspect anything, and started to introduce to Luo An the basics of money laundering through computers.
A few hours later, Mona also explained to Luo An how to set up the programs to transfer money between accounts all over the world, making it difficult for the banks to trace.
Because this required practical operation, Mona's inherent hacker traits burst forth, showing Luo An a small transfer of money right in front of him.
Luo An: "...six."
After pouring a cup of coffee for Mona, Luo An went back to learning about some parts he didn't understand and did some simple practice. With Mona pointing out the mistakes and correcting them a few times, Luo An left the Special Investigation Team with her.
That night, Luo An used all his tricks to make Mona lie in the damp bed sheets, deep asleep, then he went back to his room to clean himself up, drank a bottle of energy potion, changed into a new set of clothes, and climbed out the window.
Following his previous investigation, Luo An borrowed a well-configured laptop from a store dealing in stolen goods in the Los Angeles Underworld, a USB flash drive filled with learning material, and casually pocketed a bottle of gasoline from a car.
With these items, Luo An silently infiltrated the vicinity of another gang's territory.
Taking out the USB drive, Luo An carefully dismantled it, then pulled out a small item he had gotten earlier from under a hacker's nose:
It was a USB flash drive memory chip.
Carefully fitting the memory chip into place, Luo An booted up the laptop, looking at the start-up screen, and took a deep breath.
From the beginning of his journey to now, Luo An had never been so nervous.
The gang of bank robbers had taken more than a billion from the bank, but because the money was dirty or had problematic origins, the bank refused to disclose the true information.
As the hacker primarily responsible for transferring the money, his computer and USB drive were definitely closely linked to the bank's funds.
Now, the only issue was that Luo An didn't know what exactly was stored in the memory chip:
Was it a computer worm created by a hacker to infiltrate bank servers, or a program that transfers money out of bank accounts, or perhaps it was the bank account numbers that had been transferred to?
Luo An had already made up his mind that if the flash drive contained the former two, then he would immediately burn the computer and recollect the flash drive, attempting it later after learning more about computers.
If it was the latter, then he would find a way to secretly investigate all information from Jack's birth to death, then figure out the account numbers and passwords, and finally, withdraw the funds from the account.
At this moment, the computer was ready. Luo An took a deep breath and slowly inserted the USB drive into the computer.
Ding-dong!
The moment the USB drive was inserted, the laptop made a light sound, and after a few seconds, a black interface popped up on the screen.
The black interface was not the bank account numbers for the transferred money, but a dizzying array of English letters and numbers.
"Could this be the program created by that hacker?"
Luo An frowned and silently scrolled down the letters. If this was the case, then he might need to continue learning about computers in the future.
However, as Luo An scrolled down the black interface, it quickly transitioned from complex letters and numbers to a bunch of regularly spaced, varying lengths of numbers and letters.
"What is this…"
Luo An scrutinized these numbers and letters, reflecting on what Mona had taught him that day for a few seconds, and his eyes suddenly lit up:
"These are f*cking bank account numbers and passwords!"
To transfer money from several hundred accounts into another several hundred or thousand accounts, it wasn't possible to type them one by one; it could only be done through a pre-programmed procedure, so that afterward, the hackers could simply press a button on the keyboard, causing funds from several hundred accounts to be transferred out simultaneously.
This was the knowledge Mona had imparted to Luo An that afternoon and she had personally demonstrated it to him.
However, what confused Luo An was that when he scrolled to the bottom of the black interface, there were only a dozen accounts, far fewer than he had expected.
Nevertheless, this was not important. To prevent the flash drive from having a tracking program, or the bank discovering these accounts, Luo An immediately set up several accounts in a few countries in Africa and South America, as per Mona's instruction, and then started transferring the money from the accounts on the black interface into these accounts.
The money transfer process also utilized money laundering techniques involving staggered and multi-tiered transfers.
A few minutes later, Luo An looked at several accounts that together totaled up to 300 million US dollars, and couldn't help but open his mouth wide.
"Fu-k! Fu-k! Fu-k!"
Luo An clenched his fists in excitement. This was the biggest sum of money he had seen in his two lifetimes combined!
One small goal was just like that, achieved!
No, three!
Luo An now also recognized the situation with the money; it couldn't possibly be the money that gang leader Jack had stolen, because their target would never be this small.
And in that burned USB drive, the agent from the trace examination department had seen the remnants of the flash drive.
So, this flash drive was most likely Esodo Charlek Dujak's own private stash.
"Wanting more money from Jack, but what Jack wanted was your life."
After firmly committing the account numbers and passwords to memory, Luo An pulled out the USB drive, removed the flash drive, broke the computer in half, poured gasoline over both, and then pulled out a lighter.
Boom!
The orange flame rose instantly, and in a moment, the computer and flash drive were reduced to charred fragments.
Not far away, the gang members noticed the activity here and immediately came running with their weapons, but by the time they arrived, all they found was a pile of charred fragments.
Half an hour later, Luo An silently slipped back into the apartment he shared with another person through the window.
After taking another shower, Luo An was about to step into Mona's room when the phone on the living room table suddenly rang.
He pressed the answer button, and immediately, Reesi's grave voice transmitted from the other end:
"Luo An, something has happened on my end."
